NSV's

I was at the grocery store yesterday and my hubby and I are walking down the baking isle looking for the no sugar jello packs when my nose (which I never knew there was anything wrong with) catches a big whiff of sugar. It was too sweet! Several other times I've caught smells that were pretty strong, but my hubby can't smell them when I point them out. So apparently my sniffer is healing/improving.
Love this, because it truly is amazing how desensitized we become to things. The food industry wants it that way so we become addicted and need more and more and that's how they get more $
To me the re sensitization of sweet is a huge NSV, and a sign that the addiction has waned.3 -

I agree!
The sweeter everything tastes, the more desensitized we keep becoming.
Now that I've cut sweeteners except for water flavor to cover my supplements yuckiness, everything tastes better. Adding a couple crushed blueberries or other fruit, to water has absolutely no flavor to other people, but to me it's a light blueberry taste and I love it.
I never used to like those unsweetened drinks like LaCroix either, but now I can actually taste the flavors and natural sweetness.1 -

Lo and behold, I leave Martha's Vineyard, get home and the front of the hoodie won't even meet. *sigh* I relegate it to the back of my closet thinking maybe some day or else I'm going to give it to my mom who is a couple sizes smaller than me and not quite so busty. But no need, anymore! It's still a little snug, but I zipped this baby up smoothly. I finally get to wear my vineyard vines hoodie! (I'm a New Englander, so our hoodies are important to us)
I freaking LOVE this! You look happy and beautiful!5 -
I'm a New Englander too! I'm laughing because I feel your joy. I have a few items from the Cape and Marthas Vineyard that are now way too big for me, and I can't bring myself to get rid if them!! Lol. Maybe I'll alter them one day.
You look awesome, by the way!2 -

Someone who understands! One of my friends who grew up in Puerto Rico and moved here as an adult still doesn't fully understand hoodie obsession even though she's been here over a decade. How big are the clothes? I might be able to help you get rid of some of your clutter2 -
Today I jumped on my elliptical for the first time in a year. This time last year I struggled to do 15 minutes, and by the end my face was bright red, my head was pounding, and I was pouring sweat. Today, though, I did 30 minutes with no problems, got only slightly pink in the cheeks, and while I did sweat (of course), I didn't sweat buckets!
Of course, actually FEELING like exercising was a NSV in itself! I haven't actually wanted to work out in years.16 -
NSV I had to run new elastic through my pj bottoms, cause they were falling off my bum.14

One of the benefits of getting some of my body issues resolved is my level of confidence has increased. I'm currently planning a trip to see a band I luv a few hundred miles away, and will probably go by myself, and I'm not even nervous about it. I feel like I can have fun and meet new people and dance and really live my life. I feel like I will be accepted.
This would be an exciting adventure for me and something I've never done since I was hiding out alone in my house, in my fat suit, for so many years of my life.
Hopefully I will pull it off, but even realizing it is really possible is so exciting for me.23 -
I realized today that I feel good naked.
Sorry if that's TMI. Lol23 -

I think that is incredible! Good for you!!
Ok, this may be a really silly one, but I noticed my socks don't dig into my ankles any more...as a matter of fact, there is a divot between my ankle bone and heel where the sock doesn't really hug now.10 -
I feel (and feel like I look) like I've had an eye lift. Instead of swollen, puffy eyes, my eye sockets are back to the way they are supposed to be. Maybe not like when I was 20 but good for this 46 y/o

So I'm not sure if this counts, but I'm going to look at the positive here and call this an NSV. I had blood tests recently... something my employer offers, and if we get good enough results, we get an insurance discount. If we don't have good results, we can still get an insurance discount if we take classes on the areas where we did poorly. I thought for sure I would have high cholesterol on this WOE and would have to take classes, but cholesterol turned out very good. That's a small NSV.
Here's the real NSV: My white blood cell (WBC) count was a bit low. At first I was worried and assumed the worst. I kept this to myself because I really thought the worst. In fact, I ordered an HIV home test kit... that is how badly I was freaking out. I sent the test results to my endocrinologist because I see him more than any other doctor and also feared perhaps there was yet another auto-immune disease issue possibly involved (though I know it is backwards, I needed some rational insight). He responds back that it is fine at that level and suggested it is from the running I've been doing lately. So I suppose the NSV is that I've run so much that it is showing up in WBC.14 -

I love that you get that affirmation and support. It's only thing about Rowdy that makes me want to scream....LOL He is so non committal - I mention I lost a couple pounds and he says "ok". The last time he said "good" and nothing else. I laughed and said you didn't say "ok" this time. His answer was "I figured you were tired of hearing that." Which I am.... he will never tell me he's happy for me or proud of me because his greatest fear is that I'd think his love for me was wrapped up in my weight/looks. Which makes me think of a Rowdy story that I love...
I already owned the ranch when Rowdy and I met. He owned a house just outside a town a bit bigger than where we live and it was in a subdivision with neighbors close enough to spit on. I knew that he hated that life and wanted very much to move - as a matter of fact, his house was in the finalization stages of being sold to his daughter. He wanted a place where he could move around, feel the breeze, and enjoy some country life. I also knew how much he liked to fish and hunt - both of which can be done on this land. We fell in love very quickly when we met - even before he visited my home and when I knew we were headed to a life together I couldn't wait to bring him out here and show him where he'd be living. I showed him the ponds, the chicken coop, the barn and the workshop. I showed him the expanse of the acreage and just exactly some of the ideas I had for it. When we stopped at the dock on the biggest pond I asked him what he thought of it, did he love it? Was it what he'd always imagined as his home? **Deep inside I needed him to love it as much as I love it** His answer to me was "it's ok". I was CRUSHED inside. I thought this man that I've fallen madly in love with doesn't love this place and he doesn't want to live here with me. Fast forward about 9 months when he is living here with me - - - "When I first brought you out here.... you said 'it's ok'. Why?" His answer? " I didn't want you to think I wanted to be with you for where you live." Sigh....9 -
@RowdysLady at least you know he's not in it for the wrong reasons.1

@RowdysLady sounds like you have found yourself a real gem there.
My SO is very supportive of me. Never once complained when I was heavier, and has now decided to loose some weight too.4 -

I love having a supportive husband. He tells me every single change he can see/feel/sense. But never once complained about my heavier weight. Always still told me I was beautiful. And eating this WOE to make it easier on me

SO has been doing IF, he is now looking at my progress and considering doing LCHF with me! I am really excited at the prospect and would make cooking so much easier. He has already reduced his carbs massively. I honestly think LCHF would really suit him and his eating preferences. He needs to loose weight too, so keep your fingers crossed for him please.9

I feel like my family is really jumping on board with my keto lifestyle. We are celebrating my Dad's birthday this weekend and planning to order pizza. My Mom asked if I would like her to order me an antipasto salad so I don't have to eat pizza. I love her.12

I have paid more attention to the scale because the weight is falling off of me. But today I noticed my collar on my dress shirts are looser. My neck fat used to hang over the collar when I wear a tie. Awesome!!!12

Congratulations all. I love coming back to this thread for a pick me up every few weeks. Love it.2

I had to buy a new suit today since my old ones are not even close to fitting anymore. I dropped a lot of $$$ but after spending 2 hours in the shop trying on so many sizes, I finally found everything that fits perfect. I don't mean to sound conceited, but damn I thought I looked good in my new duds! It made spending the money a lot easier, LOL. No pics yet because it's all packed for our trip, but i'll try to get some pics uploaded in a couple weeks when I get back.
ETA - oh yeah, I weighed today and I was 5 pounds from my goal!21 -
@StacyChrz , eat the toppings off of a piece, or two, of the pizza. It's more satisfying than you'd think!
@collegefbfan, watching our bodies change is so wonderful! Congratulations!!
@nvmomketo , I feel the same! The inspiration is wonderful!
@silverfiend! We deserve to brag on ourselves! This is self love! And the brain believes what we say, and think, about ourselves (negative thoughts aren't easy to overcome, but is huge once we do!! Congratulations on your new suit! Can't wait to see a picture!

I just eat the toppings off too. It can seem like you're not eating enough food overall without the crust in the beginning and be hard to wrap your head around that but don't forget that you won't feel as hungry overall anyway and it's just sort of a mental thing that makes you feel like you didn't eat much.
Also, my husband had an issue with me "wasting" pizza by not eating the crust and I just asked him if he wanted me to waste it or be fat? And that I can do whatever I want with my piece and he can do what he wants with his. I also offered to share each piece where I get the toppings and he gets the crust so there would be no waste, but he didn't want to be a team player... Lol
He was ok with me "wasting" it after that. But honestly, it's not wasting if you don't eat something that's bad for your body. You can't help it if the rest of the world wants to pile good food on top of gut destroying bread.
I guess my NSV is there's no shame in my no crust pizza eating game.6 -
As for eating just toppings, I learned this somewhere (I think here, but can't recall) and I do this occasionally: put pepperonis on a plate and add cheese on top, cook in microwave for 30-60 seconds (depending on quantity), and then eat with a fork. It's pretty good and is basically eating pizza toppings only.7

The way I explain it is "wasting" the crust is just like "wasting" the egg shell. I boiled the whole egg but am only eating the inside. Or if he is a fruit eater, ask why he is "wasting" the orange peel or the banana peel. Pizza crust is basically the same in my opinion.
As much as I always like pizza, I always looked at the crust as just a tool to hold the stuff I really wanted. Basically, it is just something that kept pizza from requiring a fork.5 -
I love reading these NSV they really inspire me to keep going and always cheer me up. Keep up the good work guys you are doing great!4

I have my confidence back. I'm not where I want to be yet, but I'm happy where I'm currently at so I have all the patience in the world to get to goal now.11
