A pot of coffee is brewing and I'm about to dry my feet and change socks after a walk on wet grass after heavy dew. No denying it's a beautiful day but we are feeling a cold blast of wind from the east so my plan is to tuck myself in the bottom of my garden where high hedges shelter me and carry on cutting, pruning and generally clearing.

Marie ~ Let us know you are alright after your fall. <3

Patsy ~ Goodness me, Katie is a true fluff ball isn't she. I'll never complain about the amount of grooming George needs again! The world is not a very pleasant place right now is it and when it comes to what's being done to the people of Aleppo, I despair but of course reading Buzz's description of their dinner to break the fast it's obvious that ordinary folk can live in harmony when left in peace, it just needs world leaders to stop posturing!

Lin ~ You're so right about Cohen and I'm sure he was probably muttering similar comments 50 years ago but there is something about his music that squirms its way into my soul. My reasons for not joining Facebook were all about the insults and tittle tattle that seem to stir up resentment amongst so-called friends. Our Brexit referendum caused similar arguments although I laughed at being referred to as an old fogey but when it was all over life went on with no disasters so I'm sure the good people of America will move on from the past few months too, especially if everyone votes forSandy!

Must dry my wet feet and enjoy that coffee I can smell.

Lots to catch up on. We are still in NYC and today we are touring the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Tomorrow we hope to finish up the trip with Top of the Rock and then going home. Having a great time.
See you when I get back.

I think Cohen is probably one of those people who "are only happy when they are miserable" as we used to say. I never "got" his music, in fact me and the boys used to race to turn the radio off 50 years ago. But then, I'm slightly tone deaf I think in his defence, and he certainly appealed to other folk.

Sandy for president, yeah! Lin for Vice President!

I hope you are okay Marie!

Phoebe, the series is set in Georgia (Lawrenceton) with Aurora as a local librarian. I have no idea how this was advertised. I have read the series and was thrilled to see a new book as it has been years since she wrote the last book. I never was caught up in her Sookie Stackhouse books.

There is a lot of lying in this book and contemporary issues such as bullying and some very bad young people.

Hope you are having a great time in NYC. We were there in July during the heat wave. There were a gazillion people there, more in the summer I guess because of holidays. We had a great time but because of the heavy traffic it was difficult to get anywhere. We did some tours and took some cabs but you could walk faster than the cabs. We did see 3 Broadway plays which were within walking distance and loved everyone of them. LOVE NYC.

LIN, yes, of course Escher is the artist whose name escaped me! Thank you! And I agree with your comments regarding the most insane campaign season I can recall! Can't we limit it to 1 or 2 months with no cheating???
CHRIS, I think right now weather must be affecting my ankle and foot arthritis! If it isn't one thing, it's another. I'm grateful for the wheelchair!
JACKIE, you always seem to get to the center of thoughts so beautifully. And you are so right, the world will go on! Could we perhaps cage the leaders? I wish I knew more about Cohen, but I guess he was in my kids' generation!
SHIRLEY, sounds like a wonderful trip. Safe finish!
ANNE, I suspect my reaction may have been similar to yours since I cannot recall Cohen at all!
MARIE, hugs and more hugs, dear,

and just concentrate on feeling better! You've earned the right to try to relax!!!
Nancela, My housecleaning lady just got a call from her daughter who is trying to get to her job after school but has been stuck in one spot for an hour and a half! She is unable to leave due to the huge police escort for Mr Trump who will be at the Fairgrounds later today. Glad I am not driving ! Florida is getting worse than NY!
House smells lovely and now to get my papers in order so I can get to the different administrators and straighten out over-billing!
I'm sure LIN went through this with her Dad!

Yikes! Wind! Rain! More wind coming! Lots more rain coming! Trees are falling over because of saturated ground and high winds. We lost power all night. Good that we have emergency supplies and equipment. I understand to a lesser degree about what the southeast US has been dealing with.

Our fall colors are subdued this year. Not sure why. I have sworn off reading any more election news. It was making me crazy. We too are trying to get ready for winter. I have my happy light in place and a huge bottle of Vitimin D. I'm ready to take on the autumn/winter weather and dark days.

All of your trips to NYC sound wonderful. I have copies of immigration papers from several family members from long ago. They landed on Ellis Island. I would love to see the art museums and galleries. Oh and the shows!

Take care everyone. Our interesting weather is beginning.

Good morning, just getting ready to leave for Tai Chi/Qigong class. Then I believe a trip to the battery store is in order. My Toyota starts with a fob that I just carry in my purse. Lately from time to time I get a warning message on my dashboard that the power is low. Last time this happened the battery people said it was a problem with the vehicle, the battery was fine but with winter on the way and I have problems trying to get to the emergency little key stub thing to unlock the door, I think I will just ask them to replace the battery.

More than you needed to hear!!

Best wishes to everyone this day.

    Hugs.

Happy Friday! :) Not happy with a weight gain of 1.3 pounds but it is my own fault. I have been getting steps in but haven't been riding my bike. Life seems to be getting in my way lately, but that is no excuse. I am going to try harder and get rid of these last 5 pounds someday!!!! Cool day here, the only plans I have is to get a mani/pedi/wax. I did get my hair highlighted and cut yesterday so I will be all set for our little trip.
Spent the morning with Lisa and Robby yesterday at a little farm in my area that has cows, pigs, chickens and horses. Robby is becoming very independent lately like most two year olds and is answering with a loud NO. His mother handles it perfectly without ever raising her voice. I really think she is a terrific mother although she let him run through a puddle even though the temps were chilly. lol

Lin, the girl who does my hair helped me with my puzzle and we are now starting to make progress. I can see those of you with younger eyes have a advantage to finding the right pieces. lol Maybe you should just get a new fob or have you tried that??

Patsy, haven't talked to my son in Portland about the weather but it doesn't sound good. With that kind of weather his wife is probably suffering with migraines.

Marie, I was so sorry to read that you fell in the doctor's office and hope you didn't break anything. You are having a rough time lately and I really wish we could be there to help you.
Take it easy and please take care of yourself, we love you!!

Lin, what a great idea, except maybe now I think Lin should be president and I will be vice president. She has more knowledge than me with all the reading she does and puts puzzles together much faster.

Shirley, hope NYC was wonderful, I was there more than 50 years ago. Did you go to the 9/11 Memorial?

Comcast is in the area working on the lines so my internet and phone keep going in and out.
I called to get a credit and they are giving me my DVR box free for a year. That saves $10 a month on my bill so I will take it. Just hope they fix these lines soon, it is very frustrating.

    Have a good day.
    Sandy

My day started with a beautiful new walk through woodland and moors in bright sunshine even though we came upon several frost pockets. Doggy heaven for our pooches before heading back to a friend's house for coffee. This afternoon I've been gardening again and now planning lambs liver, smoked bacon with onion gravy.... yummy!
Yesterday I chased up the local yoga class I wanted to attend to be told by the lady running it she had forgotten to send details but I can start on Tuesday with my neighbour at a discounted fee. Also found my lost mobile phone in a pocket of my beekeeping suit but of course a new one arrived in the post today. Oh well, perhaps having 2 phones will make it easier for my friends to make contact because one is normally either out of juice or lost!!

Buzz ~ Leonard Cohen started his career in the mid 60's and it was because my taste in music was just a little off the wall I discovered him. Even the manager in the record store hadn't heard of him but admitted he'd played the vinyl album I'd ordered out of curiosity and loved his music. Here's a link to a performance that will give you an idea not only of the sort of songs he wrote but his ethnic background. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki9xcDs9jRkd.
Too many cigarettes have probably helped him develop that gravelly voice!!

Lin ~ Very wise to check your car because winter months will take their toll on a battery and it's bound to be a time you really need your car, what we call Murphy's law!!

Patsy ~ How fascinating that you have the immigration papers of your descendants that I assume are the Irish Catholic families. Thanks for reminding me about vitamin D, something I've promised myself this winter.

    Time to cook!

Jackie, such a lovely day. New place to walk, signed up for yoga and a good dinner planned. I listened to Leonard Cohen but will admit I thought him more a morose poet more than anything. I played Suzanne over and over and over. Remember that one?

Sandy, sorry about Comcast but you've done well to get anything from them! Well done. Enjoy your weekend.

Got the fob battery changed and have worked on extracting the little skelton key a few times (just in case) and it is working more easily now. Some odds and ends this afternoon and then going to make cards this evening.

Am listening to The Essential Leonard Cohen through Amazon Prime Music right now. Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.........

Inbetween I am reading the new M.C. Beaton - Pushing Up Daisies, an Agatha Raisin Mystery.

    Later.

Still listening but had to Google the most famous song--Hallelujah. More than 60 versions are listed in an article by Newsweek. My gosh!

Anne, he does kind of drag you down in the goo of life doesn't he? Haaaa.

Jackie, is her a very happy upbeat song I am missing? :D

Canadian Air Farce, Leonard Cohens suicide songbook. Songs for a dark and dreary night!
It might give you a smile LIN!.
    'Nuff said again,

Dance Me to the End of Love was my youngest daughter's wedding song. Hallelujah is my favorite song. Best version ever was K.D.Lang and L.C. acknowledged that. He said no one else ever needs to sing this song.

    Dear friends
I had another wonderful day with my daughter today. We went to a quilt show and there were 500 quilts to look at. Ofcourse they are all beautiful. We bought some quilt things. Had lunch. Had a latte and it was a good day.
The wind here was so bad. But it has calmed down now.
    Take care

Up in the middle of the night. We are expecting hurricane force winds today. Also a foot of rain and possible local flooding. It is deadly calm right now. Moon is out and I see a few stars! It is to hit us tomorrow around noon. Hope it poops out before gets this far. The mooring basins are full and there are ships stacked up waiting. They closed the Columbia bar and they will close the big bridge from Astoria Oregon to Washington maybe around noon. Everyone is hunkering down. We have food and water and battery lamps. I am sure we will be okay but we are sure to loose power and a lot of trees. Oh well! It goes with the territory I guess. Make sure, everyone, you are safe and prepared for the winter and bad weather. Our emergency kit is in place. There is no chocolate in there! What was I thinking?

Oh goodness Patsy, the calm before the storm, how eerie! Please be safe and hold on tight to John and Katie. As you say, it will hopefully lose strength before it reaches you but still, worrying times and without any chocolate too because if ever there was a time for such indulgence it's now!!
Let us know when all has passed you by. <3

Oh Patsy, I pray you and your family will be safe. When there is no chocolate how about fashioning something with cocoa powder? I put cocoa powder in my cooked steelcut oatmeal (along with cinnamon and blueberries). It is a nice chocolate flavor.

    Hugs.

A chilly but dry moors walk with thick coat, a hat and gloves although halfway we did warm up and toss our hats! The rain has now arrived and is crashing on to my roof but nothing like a hurricane! Time to cosy down, light the fire and after some housework, catch up with a video or two. It's that sort of day when nothing other than toasted crumpets will do!!

Lin ~ My introduction to Cohen was Suzanne which like you I played over and over! The other was the Sisters of Mercy..... they will not be parted or gone! Happy, upbeat is definitely not in the man's DNA and I'm sure, as Anne suggests his songs could be deemed depressing, in fact I think his first album was referred to as the Suicide Songbook LOL.

Anne ~ Luckily I'm such an optimistic glass half full sort of person I manage to avoid being dragged down by his lyrics.... only just though!! Completely understand people being turned off by his music.

Nancela ~ On You Tube there's a beautiful scene from Scent of a Woman where Al Pacino dances to that song with his companion and I can well imagine it being used as a wedding dance. I'll check out KD Lang's version of Hallelujah.

Anyway enough of the man although I'm going to check if my old album was a first pressing because I only discovered a week or so ago that my Sergeant Pepper copy is which makes it worth about £350. A task one winters evening will be to go through all my old records and wee how much they might be worth.... never know, they might pay for an exotic holiday!

Time for those crumpets as the rain continues to crash down.
    Have a good Saturday everyone.

Oh girls today I am a remorseful Anne, I was really only teasing, and I love K.D. Langs rendition of hallelujah. My excuse for my bad behaviour, my husband of 20 odd years was taking off with his girlfriend, and they loved Mr. Cohen who was at the height of his popularity in the 70s and one couldn't turn on the radio without him adding to a very depressing time. Life moved happily on for me, but listening to poor Leonard today, and knowing he went through such a terrible time himself when his fortune was stolen by someone he trusted, you can't really blame him for seeing the glass half empty.
WHITE FLAG, TRUCE, I will try to be a kind, good, thoughtful and loving Anne, from now on. Well like Jilly, for the next day or two.
