Great to have you on the team! I have sent you a friend request... please feel free to begin to send/accept friend requests from the other teammates.4 -
Woo hoo! Glad to see most of the team made it back (we had 17 returning from the fall race ~ most of any team - you know me and stats), and I understand we have one returning from the Summer race. Welcome to the new folks!! You landed on the best team!!
I've missed y'all!
So, who wants to join me in my transportation to London (the TARDIS, not the bus)? I hear it's bigger on the inside...

Happy to be back! Looking forward to traveling with all of you!5

Okay, my bags are packed...hmmm, feel like I am forgetting something...

THE WEEK ONE DESTINATION HAS BEEN POSTED!
THE SPREADSHEETS TO RECORD YOUR EXERCISE MINUTES WILL BE POSTED SEPARATELY IN ABOUT AN HOUR.
HERE'S TO A HAPPY AND HEALTHY RACE!
HOPE Y'ALL HAVE FUN!3 -
I am back on team 5!
I don't think I'll get the 5 points for the third challenge, because I cannot stand citrus fruits. I can put them in smoothies, but the texture of oranges and the like causes me to gag. I'll try to find some small ones and see if I can get the points. No guarantees though!2 -
“NI HAO” Team Fab Five. Let the fun begin5

HELLO TEAM FIVE! Looking forward to this challenge. Hope we all do well.4

I'm so excited to be leaving from London. My daughter's living in England right now so I'm flying to London next month to see her. Good luck on the race everyone.4

Yay! Glad to be back. Hoping that having accountability again will help me get back on the losing instead of maintaining track. Though, maintaining isn't bad, at least.
I'll have to see about going back out and getting some oranges or clementines or something. Unfortunately my grocery shopping for the week is done before the challenges are posted and my budget for that is very tight.
Anyways, onto introductions for those of you that are new, or maybe need a reminder. ;P
1. NAME: Tammy
2. FAVORITE WAY TO EXERCISE: Walking, mostly. Walking outside is much less boring than being in the gym for me, but at the gym I use the elliptical and weight machines.
3. WHERE YOU ARE FROM: Roanoke, VA - USA (Well, where I live. Grew up in CT and still consider it home)
4. ONE OR TWO SENTENCES DESCRIBING WHERE YOU LIVE: It's a valley surrounded by mountains in every direction. It's very picturesque (when it's not crazy foggy). We tend to get ice more than snow, but when it does snow (once or twice a winter) we get a lot. And the plows really aren't prepared for it here and the roads stay awful for days.

BTW, team...I couldn't access the spreadsheet (it's asking me to sign in with my google account, which I don't have for this username), so I sent a separate note to Mission Enforcer since they don't have a Q&A thread started yet.0 -
Hi everyone..
Happy to be back on Team 53 -

What about mandarin oranges on a salad or something like that... or on oatmeal? It doesn't say you have to eat it by itself, just not purified, etc. Also, once the Q&A thread gets started, you could inquire about other round orange fruits that are not citrus, such as Apricots. I hate to forfeit the the points, but don't want you throwing up either!2 -

1. NAME: Rus (only 1 "s" please... full name is Ruskin, not Russell, thus only 1)
2. FAVORITE WAY TO EXERCISE: Running... that wouldn't have even made my top 10 list just a year ago, but I started running last May and it is in my blood now. I also enjoy lifting weights at the gym... and of course, always look forward to Clarice's dance videos for the challenges.
3. WHERE YOU ARE FROM: I live in the Kansas City metro area (USA), but many moons ago I grew up in a small town in Minnesota.
4. ONE OR TWO SENTENCES DESCRIBING WHERE YOU LIVE: I live on the eastern part of Kansas that is more hilly that the flat prairies of western Kansas. I live in the suburbs of KC and the county where I live has a population of over a half million, so there is plenty of entertainment choices and foods of many different cultures here. KC is known for their BBQ and fountains and we love our sports teams! Some may have heard that our young Ace pitcher, Yordono Ventura was killed in a car accident yesterday
5. OPTIONAL Fur BABIES: Sorry, I missed this when I first posted. I have an almost 9 year old Pug/Cockapoo. Although, technically he is my daughter's dog, she is in college and he is my walking buddy/lap dog/cuddler. At the time we brought him home, we had 2 other dogs whose names started with SHA, so we wanted a name for him that was similar and since he was the runt of the litter and we also felt he needed a "big" name... so we decided on SHAQ.

CHALLENGE #1: "MEET AND GREET!"
1. NAME: b3achy
2. FAVORITE WAY TO EXERCISE: Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is my absolute favorite way to get a full body workout. Here's some folks paddling on the Thames in London.
However, you'll often see me log my 'glider' which is an old Tony Little Gazelle - it is my go-to exercise when I can't get outside or just want to get some minutes/miles while watching AR videos or TV. Yea, this guy (apparently he's from Tampa also)...
3. WHERE YOU ARE FROM (TOWN/STATE/PROVINCE): Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, but have lived in the Tampa Bay area of FL for the last 14 years or so.
4. DESCRIBE WHERE YOU LIVE:
Tampa Bay has two bays that connect to the Gulf of Mexico, so water is our life around here...no surprise we have to deal with pirates at times. Tampa is currently hosting their annual Gasparilla Pirate Invasion celebration which lasts nearly two months.
It kicked off last weekend with the Children's parade (my favorite) and fireworks. And yes, all the kids look like Mr. T by the end of the parade.
This week (typically on Tuesday), the pirates will invade downtown and have a faceoff with the mayor, demanding he surrender the city...he initially refuses to give them the key.
This coming Saturday, the full invasion ensues with a boat invasion where they take the key to the city from the mayor; followed by the Adult parade where the pirates share their plunder (beads, coins, etc).
This is the third largest parade in the nation (about 300,000 attending ~ and why I stay away).
The celebration continues with an arts weekend, a running race weekend, a Night/Knight illuminated parade, and a film weekend. We used to have a SUP invasion in March, but our race has been moved to coincide with the Dragon Boat races in late April. So, we have a full schedule of festivities in January, February and into March. We also have our State Fair and a Strawberry Festival in Feb/Mar. So, it's a fun time to be living in Tampa.
OPTIONAL: I have three fur beasts (cats) now. Two I got from the Humane Society about 5 years ago.
One (Seminole) was 5yo when I got him and had been at the shelter for about 4 months (his previous owner had died). He was skin and bones when I got him, but now he's the largest cat in the house.
The other (Holly) was still pretty young (6 months), but had been at the shelter for over 30 days (she was found behind a Panera Bread dumpster, and continues to have odd eating habits for a cat).
The third (Sheldon, named after the BBT character, and often acts as neurotic) I got from a friend who's husband was allergic about a year ago, and I didn't want her taking him back to the shelter since adult cats often stay the longest before being adopted. He's my friendliest cat and the greeter of the house.
(Will have to dig up some pictures to share which are on my other computer).5 -
The spreadsheets are now working! There two links in the top right hand corner for questions. Please use them to contact @hawkins410 about the challenges, and I can be reached through the "Spreadsheet and Technical Questions Link".1 -
Hey hey hey! Fab 5 is back!!!
Welcome back everyone from the Fall race and double welcome to the newbies! Just to let you all know - we are a VERY competitive team so put your tenny runners on and get ready to rumble!
I'm off to the pool this morning to rack up some minutes, but I'll be back later to check in and do the intro thing and whatever other nonsense I can come up with!6 -
1. NAME: Jeanette
2. FAVORITE WAY TO EXERCISE: Walking with friends. I also enjoy dancing, but haven't been doing that as much lately.
3. WHERE YOU ARE FROM: I live in North Carolina, but grew up in Niagara Falls, NY
4. ONE OR TWO SENTENCES DESCRIBING WHERE YOU LIVE: The south is pretty sunny and lovely. After growing up with all that snow and cold, I like being able to get outside to workout more often year round.2 -
@milesaway61 - I just went back and read the food challenge again, I don't think it has to be citrus, it says Orange/golden and round. The suggestions are all citrus, but it says "may include". So, what about cantelope?2
-
@rusgolden - sorry to hear about Ventura! What a shame. I had not heard that news so looked it up and told my husband the news. We are big baseball fans!
@b3achy - The Gasparilla half marathon is on my "bucket list" of race to do someday. Mostly because the medal is AWESOME.
5 -
Hopped on the bike (stationary) for an hour and then did some upper body and ab workouts, plus two of the videos. Total of 102 minutes today.
1. NAME: Diane
2. FAVORITE WAY TO EXERCISE: Running - "hated" running until just a few years ago when I decided to give it a try. I've now run 18 half marathons and 1 full marathon. I also LOVE to bike and kayak - but it's just easier to put on a pair of shoes and head out the door. That said, I currently am dealing with plantar fasciitis but it's healing nicely and I hope to be running again in a week or two.
3. WHERE YOU ARE FROM: Grew up in western Michigan, lived 11 years in Oklahoma, been in NW Indiana for 26 years.
4. ONE OR TWO SENTENCES DESCRIBING WHERE YOU LIVE: I'm in Indiana, but in a very pretty area - rolling, forests, lakes (as opposed to the corn and soybean fields everyone thinks of). We can be downtown Chicago in an hour (or 3 depending on traffic) - or we go the other direction and go to a hockey or soccer game at Notre Dame. Lake Michigan Beaches are close by - and BEAUTIFUL.
I know I'm over my two sentences - but have loved seeing others photos so here goes:
Typical Lake Michigan beach
Chicago skyline
Lighthouse near me
Supposedly this is the same lighthouse in winter - but the shape tells me it's a lighthouse about 20 miles north.
@rusgolden - just for you

Awesome! Was happy Zobrist went to the Cubs and able to win back-to-back titles! Now they have Davis as well... looks like the Royals might be known as the farm club for the big market teams once again...1 -
Hey, there weren't many videos today with the Race Location announcement (other than the exercise ones), but here's two that I watched while exercising on my glider/Gazelle after watching the ones Hawkins provided. Thought some of you might like to check them out, if you are wanting some additional Harbin themed videos to watch while working out:
Very Nice Video Blog of the Harbin Snow and Ice Sculptures - a bit more in depth (13:47 minutes) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OywUqZHS5fk
Lost in China: Ice City - Harbin by National Geographic (Hutchins Brothers in Harbin, China; 46:59 minutes) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFqCGjgxu_Y
(The first 40 minutes are a lot of other cool stuff about Harbin to include ice swimming, ice bars, the old part of town, and two guys memories from when they grew up in Harbin over 20 years prior.)1
