- clearing out the closet, donating bag after bag of clothes from size 14 to size 3X.
- losing a full shoe size
- wearing size 10 clothes I've had squirreled away in the back of the closet for 12 years, with my eye on getting into those size 8s and 6s!!
- being able to wear several items of clothing that had been NWT in my closet for over a decade
- being able to wear beloved jewelry that I'd been unable to wear for years (Thai baht necklace and pendant; rings; bracelets)
- being able to stand on one foot in the shower and wash the bottom of my other foot
- being able to bend down and put on my socks and tie my shoes with utter ease because my stomach is no longer in the way... meaning my arms are long enough!
- being able to complete the C25K (Couch to 5K) app and run my first 5K - I hadn't run in years
- not having any hip pain any longer
- being able to get on and off a shuttle bus easily and without knee/hip pain
- going hiking in Yosemite and Big Sur with my kids, and not getting winded
- getting a new driver's license photo and getting complimented by the DMV lady
- climbing fearlessly up a ladder to change the light bulb in the entry hall light fixture
- putting in an 18'x6' vegetable garden and spending hours and hours gardening without becoming red-faced and covered in sweat
- the feel of my bones under my skin, no longer buried in inches of blubber. My daughter actually complained: "Mom, your shoulder is BONY!" YES!
- my family's pride in my achievements
- being actually HAPPY to have my photograph taken; having a blast taking selfies with my kids
- seeing respect and not dismissal in the eyes of co-workers and strangers alike
- feeling younger, sexier, healthier and happier than I have in far too long!!
NO REGRETS!
Edited to add:
- realizing I need to update my photo on this app cuz I'm down a good 30# since it was last posted!!
I am GREATLY anticipating experiencing those myself. All of them. Your NSV's made me cry because I KNOW I will get there too soon and it makes me soo happy I can't hold it in.
(You are inspiring to me, I'm sending you a friend request )4 -
Today, for the first time, a person who does not know I had surgery commented that she could tell I've been losing weight. People have commented before, but each of them knew about my surgery.4

Last week I hulk-smashed my previous weekly mileage record of 70 miles with a total of just over 73 miles in 7 days...that included a 2 hour run on the 7th day!5

I've been MIA for a bit. I was looking at getting sleeve surgery in January, but ended up getting pregnant in October which resulted in a loss in late November. Kinda put my weight loss on hold as I ate my emotions and gained back the ten pounds I lost. Ugh.
Anyway, my recent NSV was calling my weight loss clinic and scheduling my appointment to get back on track. My six months of education/nutrition classes are already done, now I just have to do my psychological evaluation. I went back to school last month, so ideally I would like to get surgery in May after my finals. I feel very motivated and 2017 will be a great year!
Congrats everyone on your goals. Love seeing all the progress7 -
@Mandy_1982 so sorry for your loss! Good luck on re-starting your journey!1

This morning I realized a standard size bath towel actually wraps all the way around me now! It's the little things...
I feel so much better about myself these days that I actually screwed up the courage to post a real pic of myself! I've avoid cameras at all costs for years, actually taking pics of myself is a new thing.6 -

@AllisonMart - Looking good all around and your hair is amazing!

@Lisidy - Thanks! I used hot rollers for the first time in ages and was shocked it came out so good! Super easy too.4

I did several headstands...and balanced one for nearly 30 seconds!
...and I pressed into wheel 3 consecutive times!7 -

For real? From 2/7 to 2/18 I increased my plank from 2 minutes 22 seconds to 4 minutes 14 seconds. This is crazy.

Ran my first 5k yesterday! My goal was 37 minutes and got under 35. Not bad for a guy that was pushing 400lbs a couple years ago. I'm now going to try and build up to a marathon next year. I'm already signed up for another 5k on my 45th birthday next month!6

I haven't been able to wear my wedding or engagement ring for a year. I finally got them resized since my weight has been stable for more than 6 months...I went from a 7.5 to a 6!6
-
Have to go to a wedding next weekend - since I had no dresses that fit, I had to go shopping and was able to pick something right off the rack!5

I've officially lost 80lbs. But more importantly IMO, my BMI has dropped a hair below 30 and I am no longer in the "obese" category. Now I'm just pleasantly plump!6
-
I went on a date for the first time in YEARS. Went pretty well, too.
I had to buy a new Fitbit with a smaller size band because the old one was pulling apart from me trying to tighten it further.
My skinny jeans are now falling off.
The surgeon said I'm way ahead of expectations!8 -
So, yeah. Probably the weirdest NSV on the list to date. I fit in a dryer. All of me. Don't ask. It excited me. Or...ask. lmao, I have the video and pics to prove it.6
-
had my hernia removal and loose skin removal surgery8
-
A few people recently have said, "have you lost MORE WEIGHT?" That's my opportunity to tell them it was all from cutting SUGAR.6
-
I finally broke 40" for my pants waist size. squeezing into 38" now. Even though I've lost a lot of weight I still have skin/fat sitting in my lower belly area. There's a guy at work that probably weighs 60lbs more than me but wears a smaller pant because of how he carries it. Oh well... I'm happier, healthier and fitter than ever. Waist size be damned!9
-
I was able to tuck my pants INTO my knee-high boots!6
-
My NSV is that I passed the psychological evaluation required by insurance and now I'm one step closer to surgery7

My Resting Heart Rate on my FitBit got down to 47 a few days ago. It's been consistantly around 50 the past month or so. For a guy who used to have a RHR around 90 when I was 400lbs I'd say that's pretty amazing. Getting my heart healthy may be my greatest achievement since getting the sleeve a few years ago.9

That is fantastic. I wish I had measured my resting heart rate prior to my surgery, I have no idea what it was really. The only thing I know is that my blood pressure was borderline high pre-surgery and has been normal every time after.

I got up this morning and did a 60 minute, high intensity boot camp at 5:30 in the morning. I don't even recognize myself.9
-
I am no longer taking meds for type 2 Diabetes! Almost 7 weeks post op.
Three people from different departments commented on my weight loss.
My wife says I smile more. I say she does and I'm grateful I'm part of that.9 -
Had to buy new clothes for a conference and was able to buy a size 6 in dress pants!8
-
@jcavanna2 congrats. That is a great accomplishment!1
-
Thank you @Jamieeldred!2

Not sure that this technically counts as a NSV since the scale is kind of involved, but look who finally got out of Obese Class III. Of course, I can't wait to be out of any class of obesity, but this small milestone put a smile on my face.
