Hi
I was out walking today and did 7400 steps, The temperature this morning was 46/41 degrees. It was a nice day outside for walking.
I did not get back outside yesterday, however I did hit my daily goal of 10K steps
While I was walking I stopped at the produce store and picked up Bananas that were just green enough that the first one on the counter will ripen for Monday Morning and the rest went into the refrigerator. I also picked up Sweet Plums, Bartlett Pears and a 1 pound container of Strawberries for 99 cents.

Cat has eaten, but not me. I think its time to head to the kitchen. Thinking celery soup and avocado/garlic toast. Saving the can of Ful Medames for tomorrow's breakfast treat!

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday!
Only supposed to get to the mid/upper 60s today, with rain.
Got all the laundry done yesterday, and the dishwasher is running now. Also finished off the last of the sliced Easter ham.
So far this morning Ariel seemed relatively OK when I saw her sleeping on an extra couch pillow on the bedroom floor, but when I looked a bit later she was gone. Perhaps she's up on the bed with J, or perhaps she is anticipating her prednisone pills and hiding from me. I wasn't planning on giving them to her quite this early anyway, and the timing is not THAT critical.
So here's a more relaxed Mona Lisa.

The Prednisone is used to help prevent or treat allergic reactions to other drugs used in cancer care and to help treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy drugs. It can also aid in flushing the drugs from the system, as it tends to have a side effect of excessive thirst and, thus, excessive micturation.

So far today, Ariel hasn't eaten anything that I know of. She refused treats, but did sniff them as if she WANTED to eat something, and did the same with cat food. She seemed to be asking for food but then didn't want it.
I may run to PetSmart and get small quantities of different tasting cat food and treats, to try, as she may be associating her regular food (and treats) with feeling sick.
If that doesn't work, I'll ask the vet about something to help stimulate her appetite. She did eat some yesterday, and pretty well the day before, but nothing so far today, and she can't go more than a day or two without eating anything, as there could be additional consequences...0 -
Update:
I just got back from PetSmart. I got Ariel to eat about 4 crunchy steak and shrimp flavored cat treats. Not much, but it's a start!0 -

I got Ariel to eat a few more cat treats. Wasn't interested in cat milk, or canned food but I've left the canned food conveniently near her hidey hole.

Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday!
Currently 52 out there looking toward a high of only 65 with 70% chance of rain.
Sink is cleared. Lilo and I have been fed. Ariel was up and about and I really think she ate some of Lilo's kibble during the night. And I actually hope she did, even though before the cancer we had always disapproved as Ariel needed her own special diet, but for now whatever she wants to eat is fine with us. As long as she eats.
We were previously taking up Lilo's kibble at night and only giving it to her at times when Ariel wasn't likely to snack on it, and leaving Lilo some of her canned food (that Ariel wouldn't touch) out overnight but we have gone back to leaving Lilo's kibble out all night too, and actually hoping that Ariel will eat some of it.
Sink is cleared into the dishwasher.
Will probably call the vet later today, if Ariel's appetite still seems too low. But I'll wait until a bit further in to the day to make that diagnosis. Maybe she'll be over her funk...

Ed, I suspect the chemo has Ariels tummy upset, and she will be not the good little eater of the past, if cats react to poisons like humans do. Hard to watch I know.
I am tossing the meatloaf from this weeks batch cooking. Just don't like it, and I have plenty of veggies and frozen foods that I won't miss it. One out of about 20, isn't a bad average!!
And several of these recipe's will still be made batched or not!

A start is better than a no start. I would have thought that the Vet would have given you a prescription for appetite just in case of need ?

The Prednisone is supposed to stimulate the appetite, but I think we're gonna ask for something additional before the next chemo treatment this Friday...
Update: Called the vet and left a message, waiting for callback.

M is for mirtazapine.
Seems weird to give a human antidepressant to a cat, but that's what the vet gave us as an appetite stimulant.
Mirtazapine, 1/4 tablet once every three days is the dosage.
I was able to wake her from a nap and pop it down her before she knew what was going on, because she was napping on a box, on my desk.
I've read that there might be some side effects, such as vocalizing a lot, wandering around, and eating a lot of small quantities of food...like a stoned kitty with the munchies.
I would consider a stoned kitty with the munchies to be a WIN, so hopefully in a while we'll get some results.

Holy shiitake mushrooms!
About an hour and a half after giving her the first dose of mirtazapine, and she was in there eating. Eating Lilo's kibble, but at this point Ariel can eat whatever the heck she wants to eat, as long as she's eating!

I was out walking this morning and did 6200 steps, Yesterday I went back put in the cfaternoon and ended up over 11K steps for the day. The temperature this morning was 51/52 degrees. It was a nice day outside for walking until the light rain started. That was blown into me as I was on the homeward leg of my walk so I shortcut it slightly

LONDON — Are you handy enough that if a lightbulb went out in your home you’d be able to change it? Believe it or not, one in five people aren’t so skilled. In fact, a new survey of people in the United Kingdom finds not only do about 20 percent of people not know how to change a bulb — the same number aren’t sure how to boil an egg, either.
The British insurance company Aviva recently released their annual Home Report which detailed, among numerous findings about how people do work around the house, relatively common tasks that people encounter. The company surveyed 2004 people across the UK in February and March about their habits and roles at home.
Lightbulbs
A stunning new survey from the United Kingdom found that one in five people did not know how to change a lightbulb or boil an egg.
In addition to just one in five not being able to change a lightbulb or boil an egg, the survey found that nearly a third of the participants couldn’t cook any meal on the fly. And if someone were to spill a portion of their meal on their clothes or on the floor, only 59 percent would know how to get rid of the resulting stain.
Only 37 percent could change a flat tire.
The findings were even surprising to the folks behind the study.
“As a nation we tend to take pride in our ability to do things ourselves in and around the home, so it’s a surprise to see there could be a skills gap in places,” says Aviva Propositions Director Adam Beckett in a press release. “That said, we also know that people lead busy lives, so while we enjoy doing things ourselves, we also appreciate the opportunity to leave things to a professional from time to time, particularly with some of the more challenging jobs.”
Interestingly, while 50 percent of those surveyed said they learned how to do a home task on their by trial and error, plenty of people are turning to the internet for help, especially millennials. The study found four in 10 people aged 25 and under prefer learning do-it-yourself chores online. That’s more than twice the number in the age group who turn to an actual book for help.
