Hello new team members!
@CassieGetsFit2013 girl, I’m so sorry! Just reading it makes me sad... I really hope you’ll feel mentally much better very soon. You’re doing amazing with your logging discipline and eating habits. Honestly I think it goes hand in hand. I really hope it will help you mentally big time seeing all those changes happening to your body.
And we are here - to help you too and cheer you up!
Do you have any interesting hobbies or anything new you’d like to try to learn?
I love crafting, painting, I have lots of house plants i take care of, I love baking and decorating... also walking lol 😂 I learnt to fix a 2x2 and 3x3 rubix’s cubes -thanks to YouTube tutorial recently when I was sick and laying on couch most days lol
Just trying to see if anything sounds appealing any new fun thing to learn or try?3 -
I am so happy to finally be in bed. Left work with a minor headache. Out came the peppermint oil. Went grocery shopping, did yoga, made dinner did dishes, watched “The Closer” with Molly, took a work assessment (1hour) walked around the downstairs like a mad woman getting in my last 2,000 steps, layed out my clothes for tomorrow, brussed, flossed, washed my face, put on pj’s...and now 10 minutes to read. Nite all.5

Welcome @venture4th and @rhea81! Introduce yourself to the team. If you look back you will see all of our introductions. Looking forward to meeting and getting to know you!
@ihp2015 You are doing great! I love when you actually can see an improvement in your physical strength. Hope you had a good day 2
@carlsoda I sent you a Fitbit invite. I love your profile pic there! It made me lol! With the little hat!
@mrsbell8well. It depends what your doing if you can do 1,000 steps per hour. I used to do that when it was slow on night shift. It would help keep me awake too. It’s not as easy on a regular day but since I know I have done it I can shoot for it. You sound like you have a good plan for January. I know you are going to do great. Good luck with the next stage for your promotion.
@eyesopennow awesome progress! It must be nice to visualize how far you have actually gone! ThAnks for the update!
@nstephenson01 such a productive day! Sounds like you are ready to start 2019!
@lennoncpa they actually do sell water glasses that have marks that show where you should be at a certain time. Maybe you can kinda visualize the same with your water. Have it 1/4 of the way down by a certain time, 1/2 before lunch. Maybe substitute water for what you usually drink with Lunch...3/4 by 2:30 and the last 1/4 before you leave.
@cassiegetsfit2013 are we friends on Fitbit? I am Pam G on there. I think...
@ljdanny. Great job getting up and out so early! What a good idea to get the scales with the money you are saving!
@cafeldlia Happy New Year! I am sorry to hear that you can’t run but glad you can at least still walk and do yoga and Pilates.
@twyla77 great day and amazing steps!3 -

Felt great until 3pm and then was exhausted! I tried to get some exercise in but I am just too tired. By 7 my cold symptoms returned too. I am going to listen to my body and get some sleep. Steps are horrible today. I was really hoping that I was over this. Hope everyone has a good night!7

Background - we went to Paris last year and I yearn for more time there. My kids tease me as I always make comments if anything related comes up. Today we were sorting thru a bag of second hand clothes from a friend meant for my three teen daughters when I found a “Love Peace Paris” tee shirt in among the junior clothing. My kids laughed and I took the shirt thinking I might fit into it in a few months. Put that shirt on and it fit perfectly! Decided to wear it to my third yoga class in 3 days!
Amazed at how very much better I feel after modest weight loss. Tomorrow marks 5 months since I decided to lose weight / started on mfp. 37 pounds down. What a difference in how I feel, both physically and mentally! Here’s to wishing us all great success in our journey toward health in 2019!9 -
@sleepymom5 We aren't friends on FitBit, but Cyndie does invite me to the walking week hustle challenges & I think I see you there to. Not sure how to add you though.1

Thank you! You guys are wonderful & you're a great addition to our amazing team. I hope I can feel proud of myself one of these days.
🙃
I used to do more like read, draw, write, play basjetball, go for walks, play with my pets, garden, bike ride, etc...Quit most to all long ago. 😔 I really think I'm not going to get far with my weight loss if I don't start adding some exercises in. I keep telling myself to go walking again, (haven't been walking around the neighborhood since I got out of the Hospital in July) but it's rather cold & I get really cold fast & shiver a lot.
I have house plants to, but they're currently in our sunroom as my Aunt doesn't let me put them around the house, but in the Spring & Summer I get to decorate the porch with them. Lol, that's cool that you learned how to do that. 😋
I can't think of anything...Just got a new PS4 system & even getting on a game that is supposed to be fun seems so boring & more like a chore. A part of me gas just checked out already & the other part of me is having a hard time reeling her back in before I'm just gone all together.
Anyway, I wrote a letter to my Psych, my Clinician told me it will be a good idea since it is hard for me to talk with all m6 nerves & I let her read it & she said it was perfect so we'll see! Appt. Is at 4PM tomorrow. *Gulp* 😬🤯

Check-in (Thurs 3/1/19)
Still packing for the move. Mama had a bad night last night so I was up with her at all hours. Still not enough steps, but also not a shameful amount of steps. The weather here where I am is pretty consistently >38 degrees Celsius during the day (100 degrees F) so it's hard to be motivated to do much outside.
Tracking: Not at the moment. Hoping to be back into that when I move and unpack my food scales.
Water: so much. Easily over 2L.
Steps: 7123
Things I am succeeding at: drinking enough water, not pushing myself too hard physically during the move and messing up my back further.
Things to improve: I've got a feeling my carbs were on the high side today (30-40g). Need to make sure I'm on the right side of 20g net.

Check in for Wednesday
Logged food and was too far under - I just wasn't hungry and didn't want to keep eating late at night.
Water - about 30 ounces
Exercise - 48 minutes of Yoga with Adrienne and some light arm work
Breakfast: Protein shake with whole milk
"Lunch" - shared some movie popcorn with my son and nieces (Mary Poppins Returns is awesome, btw!)
Supper - 4 oz BBQ skinless chicken thigh, 2 oz roasted Brussels sprouts, 1oz sauteed mushrooms, and 2oz spaghetti noodles with butter and italian seasoning
Then I had half a piece of cornbread as a snack later

Good morning all and welcome to all our new members
Yesterday was overall a good day. Got in SO MUCH water, 10,000+ steps and 50 minutes of yoga. Food was great until I got home. SIL stopped by on his way home and dropped off fries (he's an odd duck sometimes LOL) so I had left over turkey (good for you) and sweet potato fries (not good for you) and was immediately SO thirsty. I wasn't sure if it was diabetes or salt But I counted it and still under on my calories and at my max for carbs. I'll still call that a win! Weight was up this morning (salt) but not worried at all. I'll drink lots today and flush it right back out.
Meetings at work today (long ones), so I hope to still hit my 10,000+ steps today...I will try my hardest!
@phoebe112476 I am SO jealous! I would love to just go to Paris...maybe one day! You are SO lucky!!
Have a great day everyone!!5 -

Day three in my string of days where I have followed my new plan. Last night was hard. I was wanting junk really bad. but I didn't. yay me. I had some almonds and sweet potatoe chips instead. They say that the first three days are the hardest. we will see. lol. lot of fruits and veggies. I don't really see any physical changes yet. to soon to tell tho. I clean out 2 closets yesterday. they were the coat closets. why do we need two closets? good question. they were full of coats that were way to big for me and for jim. another bag of clothes for the salvation army. someone is going to be so lucky to get these. it will keep them warm this winter. I also totally cleaned my kitchen. washed everything down. it is sparkley! lol
@Shirin_K it is so nice when things go back to the same ole thing! It makes life so much easier. you are doing great.
@sleepymom5 lol pam is a mouth breather! good luck with your new position. I so hope it works out for you. now is a great time to reinvent who pam is. I have done that a couple of times in my life. it is a very exciting journey. I hope you find you fit. I hate it when you get sick again when you think you have gotten better. just rest today if you can. chicken soup never hurts either.
@ihp2015 good job at getting back on track for the new year. so true about the string. I started the day before you so it will be easy for me too. you will say how many days on your string and I will know to add one more. if you don't break yours I won't break mine. that is a great nsv Irene. you took floor flights of stairs and didn't take a break. that is wonderful. look at the new you go!
@carlsoda thanks for the link. I am going to look that up for sure. I will let you know how jim and I like them. and I would say you did great too if I knew what lefsa was! you are doing awesome. sent you a friend request on fitbit.
good job yesterday with your water steps and yoga. I make sweet potato chips in the dehydrator. they are not to bad.
@Mrsbell8well you just keep doing them Angelina. it will soon become just something you do. try to change how you think about it by say you love getting all those steps instead. it may not be true now but someday it will. you know fake it till you make it. and your year food wise has definitely been a journey. you have worked to hard learning how to listen to what your body needs. and I am so into the raw foods. food is so much better for you in its natural state. you had such a crazy day yesterday. try and recoup today from the added stress. maybe some meditation after yoga!!
@eyesopennow you have really stepped in up! (see what I did there?) you have come so far and it is true testament to your strength and perseverance that you have not given up. life was tough for you in 18 and you have not given up. I am proud of you buddy! (your the token guy in the group lol)
@nstephenson01 wooo whoo. look at you go on the bowflex! 14 minutes is tough. that is great work.
@pacsnc6 I have no doubt you are going to be successful. you should take a picture of your puzzle. I love working puzzles. they are really hard on my shoulders and neck tho so I don't do them a lot any more.
@lennoncpa lol you were probably up all night peeing! good job downing the water although I think the idea is to drink it thru out the day. maybe set an alarm on you phone every hour till you get use to stopping to take a drink!
@ljdanny love the plan for your money. what a wonderful treat for doing a good job. positive reinforcement baby!!
@Cafelelia I know we are an awesome group. it has really become a great place full of wonderful people. oh no on your delay to start back running. but better to let it totally heal. you make sure you don't do to much. don't want to make it worse.
welcome to our team @Venture4th and @Rhea81 come on in and introduce yourselves. at the beginning of this thread you will find some useful information about the basics of our little group and there is a reflection exercise at the beginning of the thread that I would love for you two to complete too. if you have any questions please ask.
@twyla77 good job on getting in your water. it does really help your body run more smoothly. also helps with your metabolism. Twyla is grooving on into the new year. lol
@phoebe112476 ohhh paris! how lovely. I have never been but I hear it is beautiful. take a picture of how you are feeling. spend some time with how good it feels to be on track and taking care of yourself. really commit it to memory. then when you are starting to feel discouraged because results have slowed you can pull up that wonderful feeling. even if you write it out it really helps you stay positive.
@bbcbw wooo whoo. nice loss. that is almost 3 pounds. how are you feeling?
@coolchick207 with everything going on. tracking and staying on goal is going to be difficult. keep monitoring what you are doing. remember, without you you really have no one!!
@czvanut your calories seem low. maybe add in a health snack during the day. and ohhhh do I love roasted brussel sprouts, I roasted mine with pumpkin seeds and mushrooms. delicious.

A tiny loss. Naturally I wanted more. Took my monthly measurements and I'm down 1.75 inches overall so I guess that's a good thing. Reviewed last year's progress and all I did was gain over the holidays.

Bad day, I was just exhausted after food shopping. I thought maybe I was hungry so I made a PBJ which wasn't smart. I really just need to avoid peanut butter. It was just the quickest thing. Then I went and took a nap and that didn't help. Later in the day my congestion got bad again. I just called it a day and went to bed. Not sure what today is going to bring so I am just going to stay in and try to get stuff done. Still hoping to get on the bike but may settle for a leslie sansone video instead. I would at least like to get my steps in. Oh well...Hoping to have a better report in tomorrow.
Phoebe112476 I love that T shirt story! What a great feeling! I am up at the moment but when I was a little lighter and still clearly heavy I was amazed how much better I felt physically. I am so inspired by how well you have done! Great job!
@cassiegetsfit. I am going to try to figure it out. I am Pam G if you get a friend request Good luck at your appointment. Hugs!
@bbcbw Nice loss!
@coolchick207 I like how you have the things to improve AND especially the things you are succeeding at. You have a lot going on. Just keep yourself on track as best you can during the move.
@czvanut-not a bad day. I think sometimes you have to listen to your body when your full. However if you find you are consistently low with the calories you may have to add it in somewhere else. Like a snack or maybe more ate breakfast
@carlsoda-I swear your SIL dropped off fries another time! Lol! I know it’s not good but that’s so cute! Love how it still fit into your day!
@cyndiesstuff Awesome loss!!
That is good motivation to stay on your plan! Your diary yesterday sounded yummy! Lol! Hopefully not a mouth breather too much more, this cold has to be gone soon I hope! I am in just a weird spot in my life. I did work as a nurse part time but mostly a mother and taking care of the house. After 27 years, that’s over and I just need to figure out what is next for me...
@shirin_k don’t stress about the weight and keep doing what you are doing. The body can be weird-it could be where you are in your cycle, it could be what you are yesterday had more sodium than you thought, it could be muscle...Sometimes you replace that fat with muscle which is heavier. Don’t let it derail you, keep going you are doing great!
@nstephenson01 a loss is a loss in my book! I know what you mean about hibernating in the cold weather, I get the same way! Great job pushing through! You have been doing great.5 -
@cyndiesstuff thank you. Idk whats moving the scale. Im just continuing IF 16/8 but not restricted diet.2

I hate to have gotten off on the wrong "Step" as it were to start 2019, but circumstances dictate. I haven't bothered to post any of this (who needs to read the general bitching?) but it is going to show up in my weigh-in tomorrow so let's get it out there and be done with it and I'll just do my best to be able to move forward tomorrow.
We spent most of Christmas day in the ER with my MIL. Before we took her there, she was literally a raving, howling, incoherent insult machine who refused to even walk to the bathroom and demanded that we carry her. Refused to eat or drink, just stood at the top of the stairs cursing her mother (she thinks my wife is her mom and not her daughter) for hours. Her dementia always makes her confused and sometimes angry, but this was more intense than usual. Merry Christmas! By early afternoon, we called the doctor who said take her to the hospital. She refused to cooperate and I can't carry her down the stairs (I am nearly 60 for goodness sake) so we had to call an ambulance to transport her. Turns out she has a bleeding ulcer in her gut, had to have transfusions. But she was also generally weakened by the blood loss. So a week in the hospital.
This is and should be all about her, but the ramification for me is that we had to stay with her for much of the week because of the dementia and by and large were eating crappy fast food on the fly, and there has been very little time for walking. I'm frustrated.
Anyway, she was discharged to a rehab center on New Year's Day. She likely will go from there to a nursing home, which carries with it its own set of crazy emotions for Wyfe and me. It's in MIL's best interest but right now she hates us for "dumping her" and Wyfe is not dealing with it well. Hopefully the fog of dementia will close again and she'll forget she ever lived anywhere else. Hopefully she'll calm down and we won't be getting more calls from the rehab center asking what to do with her to calm her down. Hopefully we'll get back to a routine at home with some semblance of normalcy.
So tomorrow's weigh-in will be a disaster -- I did a preview this morning. All I can say is I will double down on the work that I have to do, beginning now.

Ok so 10 pages into this thread I'm going to introduce myself!!! I'm going to try to keep this intro brief because I'm also including the challenge response in my post... and that will NOT be.
Intro!!!
Hiiiiiiii everyone I'm Dana. I live in the great state of Ohio! Near Cleveland/on the lake-ish. I have been married a little over a year and I have a little poodle mix named Dennis. I'm a life-long workaholic (well... since I've entered the workforce... I'm 30 now) and I work full time as a payroll administrator for a staffing company and part time as a dance instructor and I take on side projects for dance here and there. I tried to cut back to 32 hours/week at my full time job to allow for a better work/life balance now that I am no longer single and not caring about relationship development... I believe I can get my work done in 32 hours (probably more like 20... but that's neither here nor there) and teaching is more what I want to be doing with my life. However, I'm back up to 40 hours at the office and my soul is crushed. We've had staffing changes that basically resulted in me working more to pick up the slack. I studied dance in college (graduated 2010) and have been looking for a dance community in the area to be a part of. I FOUND that last fall and got back on stage with an awesome group of dancing adults. I'd love to get back to my shorter hours so I can go back to doing what actually makes me happy. My goal was this Monday 1/7 but sadly that is NOT happening I'm trying to stay positive and tell myself this is temporary but it's been over 2 months and it's really wearing me down. ANYWAY... I started this challenge in January 2018 while another challenge I was in was on hiatus and only planned on doing it for the one month but here I am And I'm thankful to each and every one of you for being here and supporting me.
Challenge post!!!
What have you accomplished in 2018 that you are proud of? Talk about some of your successes and failures.
I did so many things in 2018 that contributed to how I feel today! (To those of you that have been following along you might think that's a bad thing lol... but I haven't offed myself yet so I'm taking it as a win!) New Year's Day 2018 I was not well. I woke up 1 pound into the "overweight" category. I had spent the previous weeks hiding my aggression and tearfullness and panic attacks. I decided on New Year's Day that I was going to do something about it. That I owed it to my husband (of only 3 months at the time) to at least try and be happy despite of all of my failed attempts in the past. I started therapy on January 11th, and new meds January 25th. The year itself had it's ups and downs for weight and mood but I do feel better than where I was a year ago. Not by much. But somewhat... and that's more than I can usually say. I've lost 6 pounds since then (this is pathetic... .5 pound a month?! at this rate I'll reach my goal in like 4 years....) ok ok so I lost like 13 but weighed in today only 6 pounds less than January 1 last year so that still is terrible. I'm calling the weight loss a failure. Mental health saw some gains but came crashing down at the end of the year and I'm almost back where I started.
Soooooooo how do we change that?
What does your New Year look like? Where will you be and what will you be doing? How will you do it?
In 1 year from now you will be getting ready for 2020. What number will you see on the scale? What health changes will you have manifested? Do you see yourself involved with any fitness routines or fitness goals that are fun and exciting?
I don't really buy into the whole "new year new me" mantra but I do want this year to be different.
Fitness things:
I went to 3 yoga classes last year total. I want to not be able to count the number of yoga classes I go to this year! I'm starting off the year right with a one-day yoga retreat on 1/26 that I'm SO excited for - it's all about setting goals and intention for the year.
I really need to get back to the gym too. I haven't been going since my schedule changed back to more hours When I cut back I worked in gym time and now it's gone. My spare/productive time went to working on choreography for my dancers.
Last year my husband and I rented kayaks a couple of times to go down the river and it was so fun! We went twice but I want to go more this spring/summer/fall and get our own kayaks that we can take out on Lake Erie as well as the river.
Diet things:
I need to get back to intermittent fasting. I'm still doing like a 10 hour eating window but I need to get back to 6 hours. I honestly feel better with that and am able to control my calories better.
I'm going to start logging on MFP again... shooting for a closed diary six days/week. I try to just be mindful the 7th day.
I'm cutting back to NO MORE than 3 alcoholic drinks/day (per day that I'm drinking. I don't currently drink every day... nor do I plan to start lol) Honestly I think this will help my weight loss more than anything else.... it's nothing for me to drink a whole bottle of wine starting with dinner. Vacation may be an exception... but I'm going to work on doing better with that too.
On New Year's Day 2020 (wow, finallly got to the point here. I'm long-winded when I finally decide to speak up... ) the second number in my weight will have changed to a 1 or a 2 rather than a 3 or a 4 where it currently sits. From my weight this morning I would like to lose 20 pounds. I think I'm holding on to some water weight from the holidays but there is plenty of fat to be trimmed. Gross visual. But that's how I feel and it needs to change.
xo

@Shirin_K boy that scale can be fickle. If you know you have done what is right. It will show on the scale.... Eventually! Do you take your measurements? sometimes that is a better predictor of your work. don't let it derail you tho. your doing great.
@nstephenson01 hey we will take it!! great job. holidays are over now. we are gonna get to work.
@sleepymom5 we all need to know what our no no's are. mine main one is bread. but really anything junk food wise is a problem for me. I sure hope you feel better soon.
@eyesopennow man... our old folks. I am sorry it has been difficult. but you mil is so lucky to have you. and you will be repaid for all you do. I don't know how but God does. hang in there buddy.
@DananaNanas I love your intro and your reflection exercise. you have learnt so much this past year. your always so very busy I am amazed that you find the time to do any extra. that being said. this is going to be your year. now you have said who you want to be. now its time to make her. get moving girl!!3 -
@eyesopennow I am so sorry. Dementia and Alzheimer's are such awful diseases.2

It's been a busy morning. Yesterday I did get in all my 10k steps! And managed to get through yoga even with a headache. I was shocked when I was able to do the "plow" pose. My belly has been too big to successfully perform that pose. Yesterday my feet sailed up on over my head and easily touched the floor. I kept having to wiggle my toes to make sure they were on the floor and not on the top of my daybed. Lol. I am loving the progress. This is my 3rd consecutive month. I remember the first week being possibly the hardest. I managed the high lunges. Not easily but successfully. Molly knocked on the door while I was holding the pose..."ughhhh...not now" I yelled out. She had just gotten home from work. Kisses have to wait.
Had a good eating day yesterday.
Big hugs to everyone! Let's keep going and taking this one day at a time.
@Shirin_K ...well that scale just sucks! It must be broken! You will need to take it one day at a time and shake it off. No matter what we say or how we know better...that scale will still miss with you. It's going to happen. Best we get it over with early in the month/year. Now let's kick butt this week and dazzle everyone next weigh in with our amazing loss. It WILL happen!!!4 -
@phoebe112476 love the paris t-shirt story! I too have lost 37 pounds. How tall are you and how much more did you want to lose?
@cyndiesstuff Way to go Cyndie!!!! It is great to get over the first 3 days. You can definitely do this! Next week the 140's and a healthier body!
@sleepymom5 I am so sorry you aren't feeling well. Elderberry syrup can be helpful, but rest is your best bet.
More later.1 -
@cyndiesstuff - your post about cleaning your closet gave me a nudge to do mine too! the extra winter coats & boots i no longer wear aren’t doing anyone any good stuffed away. Packed up a bag and I’ll drop off in one of the collection bins later today! thanks for the reminder!3

I will try to get on here later to introduce myself to any new members and catch up with you all.
