Glucose levels are awesome....below 120 for 7/14/30 day averages. woot.
Almost "pantsed" myself in whole foods the other night...i stepped on my own cuff because they were hanging so low.
Hahaha. I'll have to watch out for that! Ive noticed a couple pairs of pants have gotten mysteriously longer in the legs. I guess the dryer has started growing things instead if shrinking them.4 -
Kudos all around, everyone! So happy to see such progress with all my friends!2

Missed ya, KnitOrMiss, how are things?

My NSV this week was going to visit my son in a nearby city. This is always accompanied by lots of cocktails, beer and some very pricey meals (he is not shy when Mom and Dad are paying). Anyway I usually gain weight so I expected it. I fasted both mornings but indulged otherwise but I was able to eat LCHF. I didn't gain a single pound over the three days. So happy adding IF to my WOE and plan to do more fasting after Thanksgiving.9

Food doesn’t control me anymore.
Even with Thanksgiving coming up, I’m thinking: the turkey and Brussels sprouts are keto already, and I know the pie we’re having this year is so-so. Which makes the main carb sources mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes (both made with a ton of butter) and stuffing. I love stuffing, but isn’t it possible that I could eat just enough of those last three things to enjoy, take a walk after dinner, and stay in ketosis? Then enjoy small portions of leftovers the next day and do it again?
I’m plotting a keto Thanksgiving because I would rather not feel all bloated and stuffed. I'm plotting a keto Thanksgiving because it sounds appealing. I’m not scared of carbs; I’m just not interested in making extra room for them, given how they make me feel.

For the last two Thanksgivings, my strategy has been to observe carb limits and forget about calories for the day. So I snack on cheese and salami. I eat plenty of turkey and ham. I will have some veggie like sauteed green beans that is not starchy or saucy. I don't drink, so that is not an issue.
This has worked very well for me. I feel as if I have feasted, and there is no social stigma for other folks. I am eating a hearty meal and seem a little picky. It is not like I am a vegetarian that has to know every ingredient that went into the casserole. I just take a turkey drumstick and smile pleasantly when people talk politics. My mouth is full after all, so I can't really be expected to talk about incendiary issue X.7 -
Three more pairs of jeans headed to the charity shop. When I can put them on and take them off without undoing the button and zipper, it is much too dangerous to continue wearing them.

Finished my first week of the IF as Dr. Fung instructs to do it in the Obesity Code (Awesome book, read it, if nothing else for the amusing style he's writing it in)
Despite having a really bad cheating day yesterday, I lost 2 inches (5cm) over my hips!
With going bar and restaurant hopping with my best friend who I haven't seen for 5 months, I thought it would cancel any progress I've made over the week, but it did not!
TWO... Inches! I'm still stunned...8 -
Cleaned out my closet and got rid of some dresses because they were super old and worn out...which is way nicer than getting rid of them because they are too small...10

I'm new to this forum/group. Hello to everyone! I'm also in keto group, but I wanted to ask what is the normal or should I say average amount of carbs for a low carb (not keto) diet? What are some of your daily carb target/goals?0

I kind of drift in and out of keto so half the time I say keto and the other half I identify as LCHF. It really has a lot of variables that come into play. For example I got up and ran six miles today and can tell I am in ketosis now (after lunch). Most days I am not in ketosis and I try to stay at 50g or less carbs.0 -

I am LC not keto and I shoot for 100g total. Sometimes I'm a little over or under, but since I'm not pursuing ketosis, it doesn't matter as long as I prioritize nutrients over sugar or starch.4 -
@GDowning2Fit, Generally I hit around 100g for maintenance, but to drop a bit if I trend up, I go for under 50g. Right now I'm in Mexico for 3 weeks so frijoles, arroz, and hand made fresh corn tortillas mean I am at the 100 end of my scale, although I am IFing each day 16:8 and we are in a 3rd/4th story apartment (rooftop patio) with only stairs, and walking almost everywhere. No weight gain so far after 12 days (including cider, margarita, and mojito on occasion.). I will admit I am hungrier more often than usual for me. Eagggh, carbs. But worth it to eat local.5

This is a thread that needs to always be near the top, so, I wanted to tell of a couple of converts.
In October, I found out a friend's wife had been diabetic since her second pregnancy (about 7-8 years). She has been on metformin and had recently been given a second medication because she couldn't keep her BG under control. Of course this led to extended conversations about my WOE since I have been eating LCHF to control my BG for over 3 years.
Within a month, I saw them at church and they pulled me aside to say they had something for me. As we were talking, I asked how her BG was. She said it was under control and she is NO LONGER TAKING ANY MEDICATION for it.
Her husband has been eating the same way to support her and thought he should be eating a little better and could lose some weight.
I don't always get to see them on Sundays, but I got to see him this last week and I think he has got to be down at least 30-40 lbs in the last 2-3 months. Both of them are still really excited about the results they have been getting.16 -
I AM SO GLAD THIS THREAD IS BACK AT THE TOP!
I'm currently 2 weeks alcohol free for a variety of reasons. I don't know how long I'm going to stay dry but I'm pretty happy with where I am right now. I feel pretty victorious in that I've had a number of situations pop up in the last 2 weeks where it's been no big thing for me to just pass.14 -
Due to my success and now very noticeable weight-loss, I've inspired several friends and family to try low carb recipes and eat healthier. They tell me that I inspired them to "try it too".11

We are having an impact just by example. Others can see the difference in our health want to listen to our story.6

Today my skirt feels loose around the waist!9

I never thought this would happen, but I basically lost the taste for alcohol. I used to have a beer or two nearly every night. Then I switched to liquor, but roughly the same amount of alcohol. Right now, I have a single bottle of rum that is about half full that I bought last summer.
I have a single drink (generally just some rum with a splash of lemon juice in a glass of ice) every 3-4 weeks. It doesn't seem to be as satisfying as it used to be. I wouldn't say I miss it. It is more that instead of up and down, I am more level and at a higher level than my average was before in terms of mood.8 -
I certainly haven't lost the taste for wine. Lol.
But reexamination of my relationship with it has proven beneficial. Though I did find myself mindlessly munching again last night. However it is an NSV that I said ok. Woah. Time to just go to bed and went to bed with the 6 year old at 8pm.
Stopped my munching.7 -
The scale hasn’t moved in over a month... It’s been +/- 2 pounds. In the past, that would have been enough for me to get frustrated and slowly get off track.
Now, it’s caused me to pay more attention to the macros I’m eating.
Also, every time in my life I’ve ever had a gym membership, it turned in to a waste of money because I went like twice. I got a membership in September and have consistently used it—usually multiple times per week!9 -
Biggest NSV for me recently was that I don't crave sweets as much as I used to and my sweet tooth seems to be much downgraded.
I recently went on vacation and stayed at a very expensive private suite within a resort that included all day free flow French champagne, brunch, high tea, canapes and they even left a box of chocolates/macarons in the suite every night.
I had given myself permission to indulge, but I'm pleased to say I didn't even want to!
I had one champagne, nibbled a breakfast pastry every now and then, sampled a few sandwiches at high tea and felt perfectly happy! I didn't crave anything more and enjoyed my short break from LCHF.
This time last year I would have gone to town on pancakes at breakfast, champagne all day long, eaten all the high tea and gobbled the treats left in the suite every night. Probably also would have ordered extra desserts too.
The biggest thing I craved every morning was tropical fruit (thoroughly indulged in fresh pineapple, passionfruit etc) and not pancakes! A huge NSV for me, a life long sugar addict.9 -
I had to start wearing a belt with my jeans that I bought just a month ago. They were optimistically snug when I made my purchase. Now they want to slide.11

Since going LCHF nearly 4 years ago, I have only been sick twice. Both times have just been sinus colds. This weekend was the second of those. Having broken my nose 3 times back when I was much younger, these sinus colds were something that I used to count on happening at least twice a year with at least one of them turning into a sinus infection. Both of the ones I have had since going LCHF have been relatively minor.
I think the focus on real food is key as well, not just low carb. I really don't trust most of the ingredients in the "low carb" packaged food any more than the "low fat" packaged food in terms of being stuff I want to put in my body.6 -
This thread is available any time via the Open Threads sticky. It's the 1st one under Motivational at the bottom. The more stickies we have, the fewer discussions we'll have on the front page. We already have a plenitude of stickies. If you guys would love to keep this thread near the top, then keep it bumped with all your good news. Or suggest which sticky will be removed to make room. I try to keep the ones most important to the largest number of members up. But the platform limits how much I get to do.4

I have a tote of jeans under my bed that don’t fit, I’ve had this tote for like 5 (or more) years. Some of the jeans in there I’ve never worn because they never fit and I never took them back to the store.
I haven’t done laundry and all my jeans are dirty so I decided to dig those out and give them a try. I only tried on 2, but they both fit! One used to be my favorite jeans until they got to small and they even had a little room in them. You best believe those are the ones I wore!17 -
I can wear my rings again.14

Last year I bought the same 2 dresses online because I didn't know what size I was. The bigger one fit. Today I am donating both of them to a special needs dance...because they are both to big!15

I had gotten to the point where I was tucking my t-shirt into my boxers to try to keep them from sliding down all day. I was venting to my wife about the stupid elastic that was not holding up well. She pointed out that they looked as if they did not fit very well and I needed a smaller size. She was right.12
