Who is racing this weekend?

I have a 10k turkey trot on Thursday morning, which will be my only race of this season since my half marathon got cancelled.
The air quality here is much improved, though not excellent. It's been safe for running and should be safe Thursday morning. We're over 250 miles from the Camp Fire, but because the smoke is blowing toward the ocean, the entire Bay Area and central California coast has been in its path. It's supposed to rain buckets starting tomorrow, with what currently looks like a nice dry window during the race, so hopefully that will help get the fire under control--they're supposed to get a lot more rain than we are. I think we would all gladly run a wet race if it helps put the fire out.
Plus, I just set a new 5 mile PR during my usual run this morning, so hopefully I can do the same on race day.
No bling for this race, but we do get little pumpkin tarts.1 -
10k Turkey Trot on Thursday (not racing, just running)
Cocoa Bean 5K on Saturday. I'll most likely race that one to see if I can get an age group award.0 -
10K Thanksgiving Day morning, 8th year in a row. This year I'm nursing a strained hamstring. Doc says to run easy and be prepared to walk if need be; so it may well be the slowest 10K race I've ever run. It's the final race in the Rochester Runner of the Year series, but finishing well doesn't matter because I've already clinched my age group for the series and there's no way I'd finish high enough to get any overall points at this on even if I were at peak fitness. Age group awards for the individual race are nominal and bragging rights, not worth messing myself up to get.0

My husband beat me by four seconds in last year's turkey trot. I'm still not over it. And he still hasn't stopped crowing.
this is the untrained for 10k... so i am quietly hopeful that i pass him at mile 5 when he hasn't paced himself and cant breathe....
Keeping my fingers crossed for you. My husband doesn't do cardio. He prefers lifting heavy objects. But he had one goal and that was to beat me. He was hoping I would still be recovering from the half marathon I'd run three days previously. He admits if the race had been any longer I would have caught him.
I've got a couple more races to do this year. Both are 5k. A turkey trot and a jingle bell run. Very festive.
if thy're in fancy dress, we need pictures!!!!
@TavistockToad I've got my Holiday Hustle race coming up this weekend, and because I'm a good girl and follow the 'nothing new on race day' rule*, I decided to wear my ugly sweater running shirt at parkrun on Saturday just to make sure there's nothing on it that will drive me bonkers while running. And it's fab. My favourite part of the race is that everyone attaches bells to their shoelaces. It sounds as if there's a herd of cats all coming in for their dinners.
* Well, apart from that time I wore brand new shoes. (Shhh don't tell anyone).

loving that your jumper matches your shoes as well!!! :laugh:1 -
I'm running the San Antonio Rock N Roll Marathon this weekend....but only running the half this year. I'm still training for the full. Ran my first ever half a few weeks ago..... 1:58:03 @ 9:011

Last race of the calendar year coming up this weekend, Helen Holiday Half-Marathon (ish). Trail run in Helen, GA, with RunBum Race Tours. Projected race start is 40 degrees and raining. Can't wait!
A challenging course, will be the same as last year. Hoping to not turn my ankle at mile four (still finished!) and match last year's time.

Freezeroo #1, the Don Curran Memorial 5K on Saturday. Forecast for Saturday is low of 36° F, high of 44° F, 60% chance of precipitation which would be rain at that temperature. So it probably won't live up the the Freezeroo moniker. Should be a low key race, which is good because I'm coming off injury and need to run it only as hard as my body will tolerate on Saturday.
Freezeroo #2 will be at 10AM on New Year's Day; there's a better chance that one will live up to the series name.1 -
I'm doing my first every park run tomorrow :laugh:3

@TavistockToad Better late than never, but how did it go? I love my local parkrun. Actually it's the only parkrun in New England. If I want to try a different one I have to travel 270 miles to New Jersey.
I should have run a 10k at the weekend but a snowstorm with freezing rain on race day put paid to that. Gotta love that Massachusetts weather.0 -
@BruinsGal_91 it was good in that I took 2 minutes off my 5k PB!! but it was really busy - Apparently it's not normally that well attended - and the path is quite narrow so the first mile was really congested.
I caught up to the husband though after half a mile and we ran together as he was 'taking it easy' after not running for 2 months! so he paced me round and tra da, PB.
I won't be a regular attendee though I don't think.0 -
I've missed posting some races here. Tomorrow is Freezeroo #4, Hearnish 5-ish mile. It's a tribute to a guy named Hearne who laid out routes that were more or less the stated distance, but never precisely accurate. The current version is about 4.9 miles.
Forecast is for temp around 14° F (-10° C) at gun time, with 9 mph WSW wind. There is supposed to be light snow before the race starts, but ending by gun time. Classic Freezeroo weather for a fun, low-key race.3 -
Saturday Feb 2 is my first race EVER- the Frozen Penguin 10K in NYC!2
-
USATF Cross Country Championship, Masters 8K, on Saturday February 2 at Apalachee State Park, Florida. It's supposed to be single digit °F when I fly out on Thursday, but at least I won't have to worry about snow on the other end.
The field will be tough. I expect to finish in the middle of my age group. There is a chance that my team could make the podium for the 60-69 age group.2 -
15k this weekend to benefit the Atlanta Humane Society. Running but not racing. Let's let this be the kick-off back into weekend long runs and real training!1
-
Freezeroo #5 on Saturday, the Tom Brannon Memorial 8 mile race. Forecast for gun time is 24 mph wind and 18° F. Low key, I don't have to run this one hard. Running it at half marathon pace will likely be good enough to win my age group.0
-
I've got a 10K Sunday.
We got snow today, and it's going to be -10C or so. Not going to be my PB for 2019 for sure Just not sure if I need to run in trax or not (will take them and decide then).

I did the 5k at this event... Are you doing the Hot Chocolate 15k this coming weekend? I will be in that very last group to cross

I have a little local charity 3k on Sunday, the first in a series of 3 (followed by 5k in March and 7k in April). This will be my return to racing after post-half marathon injury and I'm looking forward to it so much it's sad! :-D

Not planning on the Hot Chocolate - too much kid stuff going on!0 -
Not fast, but not last!!!1

Final race of the Freezeroo Series on Saturday, the 4.4 mile White House Challenge. No pressure, I've clinched my age group for the series. It's just pride that makes me want to win the age group in this one for a 6-race sweep, no additional bling for doing so.1

I've got a half Saturday, but I'm treating it as a long run and not racing. I expect to be over 2 1/2 hours as I've not prepped enough to actually push it (I still blame the snow). Did the route last Sunday and ran 8 min/km.
But I get a free 1.5L hydration pack apparently.3 -

Just got an email regarding the run.
"AND CONDITIONS ARE CURRENTLY FRESH SNOW ON COMPACT TRAIL. * USE THE RUN AS A TRAINING RUN, AT A SLOWER PACE RATHER THAN TRYING TO RUN YOUR BEST TIME. * TRAIL SHOES AND OR TRACTION AIDS, YAK TRACS, ETC WILL HELP TO PREVENT SLIPPING IN SOME PLACES. * RUN OR WALK SLOWER WITH SHORTER STRIDES THAN NORMAL TO MAINTAIN BALANCE IN THE SNOW. * STAY UPRIGHT AND SMILE WHILE ENJOYING THE EXPERIENCE OF RUNNING/WALKING IN THE SNOW. * IF YOU ARE INJURED IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO ATTEMPT THE HALF MARATHON DISTANCE. * DUE TO THE CONDITIONS, YOU CAN ALWAYS SWITCH FROM THE HALF MARATHON TO EITHER THE 5K OR 10K IF YOU ARE CONCERNED."
Did 5K on the route last nigh without my spikes and regretted not using them. Definitely will be wearing them tomorrow.
And it's a decent hydration pack1 -
Saturday March 16: USATF Masters 8K at the Shamrock 8K, Virginia Beach
Sunday March 17: Shamrock Half Marathon, Virginia Beach
I don't know whether this qualifies for an extra medal as a Dolphin Challenge, because my club registered me for the 8K and I registered myself for the half. But the important thing is to test how I do with a long race the day after a short, hard race. I hope to learn something about how hard I can afford to run the BAA 5K two days before the Boston Marathon.2 -
Running Lucky Charm 5K on Saturday. This was originally planned to be a PR attempt but I'm not sure now. With the predicted wind and the fact that I've had my *kitten* kicked by the flu for the past 5 days I may not have a PR attempt in me. But that doesn't mean I won't try.1

50 mile starting at 0001 on Saturday, unless the 24 inches of snow shuts down the course3

DE Coastal marathon. Finally here!0
