Happy Friday!
Laundry is being done, then I will be cleaning the house once again. It is a nice day with the sun shining but not sure I will get outside. Joe had his scan but he doesn't know any results. His son has the scan to bring to Joe's doctor so it is a wait and see situation. I have to laugh because my son and Lisa are not shy about her birthday dinner. They sent me their order that I will be placing after her parents send the theirs. Expensive dinner but they are worth it and if we weren't in a pandemic I would have taken them out to the restaurant. We are comfortable with our bubble and feel safe with each other so our holidays won't be bad except for not having Bryanna join us since she is working.
Barbie, I agree with your advice for the lockdown and although I do go to my son's I feel safe as he works from home and Robby is not is not in school. Her parents do not go anywhere and have refused invitations from their son and her brother. They are very cautious as we all are so we are comfortable with our bubble.
Jackie, one picture is better than the next, love the greenhouse with Brady, love George in the puddle and love Betty in her towel coat. You are one lucky fur mommy to have such wonderful pets.
Lin, I did get my groceries and they were out of three items but did have the cleaning items I ordered which made me happy. They were so busy I had to wait a half hour after checking in to my spot in the lot. Of course I forgot it was so close to Thanksgiving and the lot was full, I am glad I don't go into Walmart with all those people.
Bob, I loved the Scott Simmons post, it is all very true no matter what age.
Anne, I forget does Michael work from home or is he back in the office?? Restrictions are getting more and more here as well and many people are complaining and could care less about the rules. We have many restaurants that are not supposed to be serving indoors defying the rule and now they might possibly get fined or lose their license.
Patsy, can't tell you how cute Katie is and how much she reminds me of Daisy. Give her an extra hug from me please.
I better get moving on cleaning before time once again gets away from me. Have a great but safe day.

HappyFriday! It is cold and rainy but I read we might get sunshine in the next day or so. Wow! That will be a treat. In the mean time I will be planning our thanksgiving dinner and our very small holiday. It will be small in one sense but large in silly sentimental memories and outrageous over the top things for just the two of us. We will be just super if we can stay healthy as well as our family. I am hard at work on the zoom issue. I am having difficulty setting up our zoom time. Aaaaaaargh!
Now about the creme freshe....easy peasy really. Why does this stuff cost so much and hard to find? It is a fermented cream that is started with a bit of buttermilk containing live cultures. That’s it! It is a little different from sour cream because of the culture and length of fermentation. Great information on YouTube, of course. If I can’t find good caviar at a good price, I will use small slices of smoked salmon on interesting crackers, maybe decorated with olive slices or capers. I told you I would be over the top......John loves little fancy appetizers. It takes forever to make a tray of these and I think it is fun to be as artistic as possible. gobble gobble slurp slurp...all gone!
Ooooops the page flipped. Okay. No comments except to say, I used to make costumes for our family. We could choose to be Indians or pilgrims and wear them during the dinner. Now I guess this would not be PC. However, no disrespect was intended. We also went around the table and gave holiday toasts. John and I still do this. We write them out and read at the start of the meal. A fun tradition started by my grandparents. My grams was the best. Funny, naughty, sometimes a bit profane, but very philosophical.
Veggie pizza night. Bell peppers, onions and artichokes and olives on that awful cauliflower crust.😱

Sandy, I think you and I are on the same page with our intentional activities to stay safe. We made a decision in March about who could come in our house and where we would go and we have stayed with those decisions. My friend who walks the dogs with me has quarantined herself from us for 14 days twice---first when a friend she visited got tested for the virus (it was negative) and second when she and her daughter drove to Idaho to visit her other daughter. We thought long and hard about having the cable TV technician into the house and then decided that the protocols set up by the company were good ones. When I studied about penguins I read that penguins will sometimes push one into the water and if he doesn't get eaten by predators, then the others feel that they are safe. That's how I see some people reacting to the pandemic. They see someone eat at a restaurant or fly to another state, or do some other crowd activity and if that someone doesn't get the virus, then they conclude that it must be safe for them. While I was walking Sasha today I saw a neighbor who said she was driving around bringing poinsettia plants to her friends and wanted to bring one to our house. She said that she knew we didn't celebrate holidays but thought it would brighten our house. I thanked her and said please don't give us one and that she had brightened our house just by offering the plant to us.Patsy, your special appetizers sound like so much fun.

Well Michael came over and I cooked him his favourite lunch as we awaited to hear our fate in the coming weeks. Lunch was lambchops with onions and mushrooms, buttery mashed potatoes and veggies, mainly green beans. Jilly helped us eat our lamb chops!

Our fate. Well nothing different where I live, but for Michael the whole of Toronto under lockdown and also the area I was writing about earlier which is really, really bad is now in lockdown. I don't know if this will affect Michael as it did before with four months out of work. I guess he will find out Monday when this takes effect. So, no restaurants, no gyms, no wedding celebrations, no casinos, no theatre no religious establishments, no sport and not much in the way of a funeral should you die etc.
NO VEMBER !, however no one should starve, curb pick up and delivery of groceries will continue. This doesn't start until Monday so people can buy groceries over the weekend. Stay home as much as possible etc etc. And don't travel outside these regions and so spread it outside the zone.
Derek's partner Bev will be worried I guess because schools aren't closing and that's the region she teaches in. Mr Trudeau calls it a very serious situation, what's new.
My makeup arrived exactly as ordered. Very pleased with my choices. So whatever, I'll be all dressed up like a Christmas tree! If nobody around to see me! Because Mark is sure our area will soon follow.

Good morning, after a good sleep it dawned on me that the region of Peel and Toronto might be in lockdown but what's to stop the people there getting in their cars and nipping over the invisible barrier to shop in our region? Strikes me they should have shutdown the whole region of southern Ontario if the powers that be want to stop this virus in its tracks! Just saying.
Making breakfast, and Jilly after a quick nip to the doggy bathroom, has gone back to dreamland.
Oh I wanted to add, I don't think beautiful little Betty is over fed JACKIE. She was a mom before she struck lucky and found you and George and Brady and like a lot of moms maybe has trouble in the tummy region? All your pets are gorgeous and isn't George a true water dog! He's a little boy at heart!

Another weekend but for me it’s spot the difference in my routine. Gone are the days my weekends were all about socialising, pub lunches and walks on local beaches. Hey ho, one day hopefully.
A grey and rather dismal start to my Saturday so our walk took us to the next village and the stone Quoit where it seems a section of the field has been ploughed, perhaps seeded with wild flowers. George followed a fox trail while Betty followed him but occasionally looked towards me as if to say I’ve no idea what he’s doing. They do entertain me!
During our first lockdown my neighbour that teaches walked with us most mornings but now she continues to go to school each day we keep a distance, even outdoors. Our infection rate in Cornwall continues to rise which I’m cross about because it was obvious it would happen but what’s done is done. I accidentally dropped a poo bag in the field that blew in the wind but another dog walker managed to catch it and we then stretched arms as far as possible to keep a distance as she handed it back. Thinking about it afterwards she could have kept it as it was empty!!
On the way home I think I found the pink wild rose I took cuttings from in the hedgerow during summer months now laden with hips so I took another cutting since I don’t think you can have enough dotted about the garden for the bees. Of course it might turn out to be white but that’s pretty too.
I’ve sat drinking coffee and reading an article about online grocery shopping. Apparently a lot of selecting in the store is done by a robot which explains why some substitutions are odd or hilarious. Someone ordering Kiwi brand shoe polish received a Kiwi fruit and another customer’s order for Kettle brand chips got an electric kettle. The funniest in the list was fabric conditioner being substituted with a lemon. Perhaps that’s a highly intelligent robot!
Your penguin 🐧 analogy had me laughing Barbie then I remembered the myth about Lemmings jumping off cliffs in large numbers that people who follow others blindly get called. I used to think it was an act of mass suicide then read a fascinating article that explained what they’re actually doing is searching for a new home when they have a population boom. An extreme act but they can swim so most survive!
Almost lunchtime for me and I have the leek and potato soup to enjoy followed by what should be an exciting rugby match between England and Ireland. The stadium will be empty of crowds of course. I see it’s raining outside so I won’t venture out now we’ve walked.

Happy Saturday! Sunny but chilly. Sheets are in dryer. Joe said his cat scan showed the same as the doctor said, a swollen saliva gland. According to google: Rinse your mouth with warm salt water rinses (one half teaspoon or 3 grams of salt in 1 cup or 240 milliliters of water) to ease pain and keep the mouth moist. To speed up healing, stop smoking if you are a smoker. Drink lots of water and use sugar-free lemon drops to increase the flow of saliva and reduce swelling. Joe is not a smoker. He did say his doctor said to use lemon drops. I guess it will take time.
Will be putting my order into Outback for the birthday celebration and stopping at Mc Donald's for the kiddos.
Lin, cute teapot and my teapot has a little strainer to put tea leaves in instead of bags although I haven't used it.
Jackie, I think all our furry kids entertain us, they do such funny things. Good luck with the rose no matter what color.
Anne, good point about Betty, who still has a flat tummy after giving birth? Of course I don't think I ever had a flat tummy. Yes, this virus is getting more and more serious. Even those on ventilators are saying it is a hoax making the medical staff furious. Hopefully, Michael can still see you even at a distance with a mask.
Barbie, I also was leery of a comcast tech coming into my home but as you say the protocols were very good. I haven't had my cleaning girl come since this started and now I am getting used to cleaning my own home except my back really hurts when done.
Patsy, you are such a good wife and inventive cook. Your Thanksgiving will be wonderful with how you make everything special for John and yourself.

A morning of all the usual activities…at least no rain – yet. Lunch was Shaved steak, skinless chicken thighs, squash, Bell pepper, grilled veggies. Ran around a little bit (Dollar Tree). Busy week ahead…
Lin – Glad you were able to accomplish tasks and enjoy a nice car ride or two with nice weather. Sorry about all the funeral restrictions…so difficult for families and friends. Glad U liked the vacation cabin…so different back then – kids today do so much more. Times change. I still can hear my mom yelling to my dad that I was swimming out too far. It wasn’t til I was much older that I understood the connection they had to that cabin – always the same honeymoon cabin. Checked today for Jean’s peanut butter brand and they were still out. Life is so tough. LOL. At the store I noticed some shelves being re-stocked so perhaps tomorrow after the gym I will try again.
Jackie – George looked cute in the “mucky puddle” with the foggy background. Sorry about shorts in todays emoji (LOL)…old pic. Restrictions around here aren’t horrible, the basic mask/social distance/crowd size. Cuomo and deBlasio are destroying what they can. Would hate to live in NYC and there is nothing much upstate residents can do about Cuomo based upon population. Only ate lunch 3 hrs ago and your post has my mind shifting to thoughts of a dinner meal. I still haven’t kicked my Rebel Ice Cream addiction and make sure I allow for it. Like the old saying – the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
Barbie – You’re right about certain brands.. and that peanut butter for her is like my coffee (and I am VERY particular) I’ll “suffer” some brands as a “fix” but it isn’t the same. LOL
Sandy – Glad everything is falling in place for the holidays with the bubble. We will miss seeing some of the usual people that would stop by because it’s normally a Thanksgiving / birthday celebration – but VERY grateful we will be with the kids. Messaged my daughter we would be picking up grandsons themed cake as usual. Glad you liked the Scott post – several points hit home with me…
Time to see what Jean is doing downstairs. Tonight will likely be separate TV’s. Jean enjoys the Hallmark movies on Saturday night (once in a while I join her) but I always have everything from classic B/W to documentaries to Netflix etc. saved.
OMG - Ps – Jean just phoned from downstairs – apparently the text I sent my daughter about getting my grandson’s birthday cake on Thanksgiving was erroneously sent to my daughter “and” grandson as a group text!!! At least I didn’t give away any secrets!

A beautiful sunny but chilly day here. It is a bittersweet holiday this year. Our daughter was taken to the hospital. She has a serious blood infection. I am beside myself with worry. We can’t visit the hospital for obvious reasons. I will try to put together a thanksgiving dinner for her family and box it up to set on their front porch. Our son’s doggie, little Runtie, passed away. This dog was a family favorite and was the pack leader. She’s bossed everyone around and was enormously smart and funny. It is hard for our son to get into a holiday spirit just now. He is alone with his other little dog. We will still do our zoom thanksgiving but it will be strange. We will Try to keep the talk light and full of jokes as usual?
I have been struck by the way everyone in this group tries to do special caring things for others. Each of us try to show friendship and affection when ever possible. Not sure if you all know this but this quality is NOT universal. A fact I know for certain.
Bob: John has the same dedication to certain brands, including clothing, cars, food and entertainment options. I will try most things a couple of times...I have no standards!
Sandy: sounds like you are going to have fun. So happy your bubble is safe and you can enjoy each other. House cleaning is supposed to be good for us. I find it tedious but necessary and it hurts my back, knees, hips, shoulders, fingers and it is boring! However.........
Jackie: lockdowns are everywhere. I fear we will have a generation of children who can’t spell or do any math or know any social skills. I am now tempted to take little cuttings from plants I like the looks of along our little road. I have ordered some seeds of wild flowers to throw around this spring. My gardening is, at best, scandalous.
Along with holiday events, send a few prayers our way.

Good evening. It has felt like a holiday. I have been amazed at the number of people who have contacted me, by phone, email, text, messenger—all thanking me for the homemade Thanksgiving card.
It has been lovely to get up to date with so many people. I just drew all the happiness in and will store it away.

Oh PATSY, I'm so sorry to read that your daughter is so poorly and added to that little Runtie gone. Your son will be in for a sad thanksgiving and so will you and John. Wish I could help physically in some way. I guess that's the worst of being in a pen pal group and unable to lend a helping hand even if its only making a pot of tea. Thoughts at least are with you and your family.

Patsy sweetheart, my heart goes out to you. Your daughter's illness would be a dreadful worry at the best of times but not being able to visit her and see for yourself how she is must be awful for you. I do hope she can get the medical help she needs and be home soon.
On top of that dear little Runtie has gone to run round the fields and woods in the sky and we all know how much your son will be missing her. I've no words of comfort other than to say I feel your heartbreak. The loss of a pet member of the family is devastating and if I could, I'd fly those few thousands miles west just to pop in and give you all the biggest hug.

And now I humbly offer my apologies to Patsy. What an absolutely rough day you had. I am incredibly sorry to hear of your daughter’s illness. Praying that the blood infection will be treated swiftly and successfully. I wish there was something I could offer to take even an edge off of your pain and suffering.
And how sad that your son lost his dear dog, Runtie. Losing a dog is incredibly difficult even if there was a known illness.
Long distance hugs dear friend. I hope your focus on making treats and special food for John will shift your focus a bit. All best....

A different morning. Still in the 30’s with a forecast of a 43 high along with a mix of snow/rain at times. Painful callus issue has prevented me for the first time this year to walk a few miles. Oh well…life is good compared to what others are going through. Not sure of today’s plans. Might stop at a local store that sells used CDs, DVDs, Vinyl this afternoon, but not sure.
Last night’s TV for me was John Adams mini-series. It might take a few days to revisit all of it. Love it!

I laughed at your comment “I have no standards!” and could only think if that thought went through Jean’s head when she agreed to marry me. LOL

Another dreary weather sort of day. Such a dark morning had me unintentionally sleeping in an extra hour and when I finally got myself and the dogs organised we had a short walk so just managed to miss rain showers. My new WiFi printer is being annoying so more wasted time trying to scan and print just one document! Got there by unplugging and resetting everything and just hope I don’t have to do that every time!!
Bob, sounds like your John Adams was ahead of Churchill in his opinion of democracies! I’ll forgive your return to shortsIn your graphic since our weather has warmed up too. A neighbour lives in shorts until snow arrives but then doesn’t have a dog to necessitate cold walks across the moors! You laughed at Patsy’s comment about standards and I laughed at yours about Jean marrying you!
That’s a jolly teapot Lin that is crying out to be filled with steaming hot tea. A few days ago when shopping in our farm shop the lady who served me asked if I drank tea. Only PG tips was my response but she told me about tiny cubed boxes on the counter they were testing for the producer and offered me one that she said was black tea. Got home to discover not only was it fruit tea but I had been charged 30p for it! Not a fortune by any means but there is a principle somewhere in there! I did make a cuppa with the contents of the tiny box but wasn’t overly impressed and more importantly the bag was nylon so I can’t compost it in my wormery. Of course if that’s all I’ve got to worry about, life is good.
Another call to my friend who sounded low and wouldn’t talk in the week got the same response so I’ve suggested it best we leave it until she feels she can phone me. Time now to cook my evening meal although I’m not leaning towards any one option. Brady is prowling doing his best to get my attention which is a sign he wants to be fed so that will get me into the kitchen where I can rummage in the fridge... see what catches my eye!

Well, not much chance of NOT being safe here seeing some of us are tucked inside peering at the sleet on the outside. Every cloud has a silver lining and with this virus confining us not much chance of us sliding along on our bottoms on the slippery path. We've got rainy sleet, Mike up north is looking at heavy falling snow.
Marks supposed to be over to finish repairing the window curtain pole so I can once again shut Harry and the weather out of view. Also hopefully enlarging my internet usage so I can subscribe to Netflix which hopefully has more to offer than the black and white movies I last saw when I was five years old.
As predicted it seems the folks who go into lockdown at one am tonight where out in droves buying their Christmas cheer yesterday at the soon to be deserted malls. Lots of vehicle crashes on the roads as well.
Michael has to deal with the public so he works behind a plexiglass panel and wears a face mask. That could change tomorrow though because his office is in the lockdown area and he could be back home again twiddling his thumbs or playing video Viking games with his friend Rob on the internet. He's quite enjoying a new game that Rob bought him for his birthday because the Vikings are rampaging in the part of England he was born in. I now name him Eivor because that's his Viking avatar name. Little boys and their toys!
Well as you can read there's not much to comment on peering at driving sleet so I will away to my book which is far more exciting.

Happy Sunday! Watched mass on TV and really haven't done much of anything. The birthday was a success and the food was great even if they did forget one baked potato and one seasoned veggie plate. They did deliver the missing items but they were more like dessert instead of with dinner. The movie was Shrek2, there are two more in the series Lisa told us. Thanksgiving plans have been made and because I don't like to go into stores I am not obligated to bring anything. I will try to get some flowers and maybe a bottle of wine at Walgreens where it is not crowded on Thanksgiving. I have a zoom call with family at 2:00 and another with friends at 5:00 so that is enough for one day. I bought a groupon package today from Omaha Steaks which is a franchise here. I do eat meat and now with my Ninja I thought this was a great deal.
Will have to check out the ingredients in the Lasagna and the caramel apple tartlets and hope I can eat both.
I just have to pick it up at a store near me which I might do this afternoon. I just hope I can fit it all in my freezer.
Patsy, like Jackie I have no words to comfort you but know that I am ((((hugging)))) you and sending loving thoughts to you and your family. Will certainly pray for your daughter and son both who need some comfort at this time.
Time to shower and get ready for my zoom call. Heck I might even put up my balcony Christmas decorations while the weather is warm enough.

Yes, a foul day. We all stayed home. No window repair and Mike sending me photos of a snowman the kids in his building had constructured. Jilly thought it was bedtime and I read my book after lunch and couldn't believe it was 3:30 when the phone woke me up! I never nap during the day. It's 0 C right now but tomorrow we climb to a heatwave of 5C so maybe it will be all gone in the morning. I couldn't snuggle with Jilly JACKIE because of being too big to fit into her bed. She crawled under her baby blanket.
Just been watching a programme about a study started in 2014 about folk in their nineties. You can imagine this interested me no end. What I found really interesting none had Alzheimer's or dementia today but those with some memory loss had something totally different and unknown in brain studies. SANDY, HALF the children born today will live to be over a hundred years.
If I came away with anything gleaned from these oldies it was stay active (well I still do just about everything - moving furniture, just put the bookcase back to its original position, cutting my own hair and toe nails, etc, and remain nosy which I am "certainly "guilty" of when it comes to keeping an eye on Harry the lad next door, but I think the study really meant learn new skills.
Time will tell!

Good morning. My weather can’t make its mind up today so of course I’m in a similar state of indecision. Do I stay in for housework, muck out the hens then garden or drive to the farm supply shop for George’s doggy raw meat? For now, after a long climb and stroll on the moors nothing is being decided until I’ve consumed some coffee.
Isn’t that an amazing cloud formation... lots going on up there! Could be a picture of my brain this morning! 🤪
Human nature I think Anne, when it comes to so many cramming in as much as they can before lockdown. Our scientists have been scathing about the spike in infections after people did the same in England and even more scathing about government plans to allow large gatherings over a 5 day Christmas period. Apparently the spike is mostly among our 30 - 50 year olds! Poor Boris doesn’t want to be known in history books as the PM who cancelled Christmas, never mind any ramifications!
Decision made... George and Betty are snoozing so I’ll pop to the shop.

Gotta get a move on – hours behind schedule –
Dang – another night of leg cramps and hopping out of bed and foot callus issue. Late start. Heading to gym in a few minutes to get at least a 1 mile hobble walk (normally 3 miles min) – LOL
Jean has plans for ice cream with girlfriend for lunch (as they do every few months) – I didn’t say anything but plan to put Christmas tree together while she is gone. Weather is a bit nippy (pic I posted to friends).
Jackie – when fatter, I would often wear shorts to grocery store on a quick run. When Jean said something, I would simply refer to the Swiss or even some UK people (see pic). LOL As for Jean and laughing – I tell people it started on or wedding night….but that’s a different story. LOL
Sorry about the “dreary” weather – but at least it seems easier to take on a Sunday…but slows the best of us down a bit. And new printer problems can send the best of us over the edge. Funny – I have patience for most things – but don’t give me computer problems! Or worse, connect me out of country to a person I can understand after being on-hold forever (although I di pay extra this last time for the quicker assist connection).
Sandy – Mass and Shrek2 – does life get any better? LOL. I love the seasoned boneless chicken breasts from Omaha Steaks. Of course the steaks are great too. We don’t order often --- BUT Jean does all the ordering for her 86 yr old friend – and she orders “a lot”. She buys packages for all her grown children for holidays and other events. Jean actually does a ton for her – schedules her dr appts, places shopping orders, arranges her hair appts etc.

Back again. Have taken care of a few things including finishing a birthday card for a friend. Realized with the Holiday coming (and potential bad weather) I should get the card in the mail. And I did. I rushed and the inside could have been much better but it will arrive if the post office does its job!
Jackie, I loved the article about the changing vocabulary. I swear if I never hear unprecedented or the phrase “grim milestone” again, I would be so pleased. Not a chance right? 🤣😂🤣 Actually I love the cloud(s) in that picture for some reason. Maybe my brain is in the same condition?
Bob, Noooooooooo, that picture has me shivering. ❄️❄️❄️❄️ 🥶🥶 we have several high school track teams in my area that go out on long runs. Well, in regular times they did, and the boys almost always wore shorts no matter how darned cold it was. I always wondered how they kept their muscles warm when their bodies had to be freezing. Yipes!
Anne, it seems everyone is doing something these days while at the same time the experts and medical personnel are begging people to stay home. The skating rink just opened for the season and while it is outdoors, they are allowing 99 people at a time. Doesn’t seem that big! Anyway, the news keeps repeating which mall will be open on Thanksgiving. Well done folks. Meanwhile testing is still difficult to get and if a person is asymptomatic, at least in this state, testing is not allowed. Seems ridiculous. So Anne and Jackie, with stories of people out there crowding together, I think it is happening everywhere.
Sandy, it sounds as if a good time was had by all in your last get together. There are lots of good children’s movies so I think you can continue your series for a long time. How chilly do you think it can get before you won’t be able to sit and visit with Joe? Or maybe it will be shorter visits. I am sure you are looking forward to Thanksgiving this Thursday.
I enjoyed flipping channels last night—the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving show was on at the same time as the wonderful WKRP episode of the turkey giveaway. I had to say some of the lines along with the show. 🤣😂🤣

I watched a film online yesterday afternoon. It was the 10th anniversary of a documentary on the one room schoolhouse. It was quite interesting. They interviewed a number of people who attended them and I was surprised that not only were there pranks and antics but much bullying, abuse of the teachers as well as teachers beating students. Not necessarily all the time but more than I envisioned. And definitely not a Norman Rockwell picture.
One of the families in our church has Covid. She told me she feels quite ill. Her husband says he is not feeling bad but is bored having to stay home. Quite different reactions. They think their children are unaffected because they are not displaying the same symptoms. I am not so sure. I hope they were not contagious when they were helping with the turkey dinner a week ago Saturday. As I have mentioned, these people do not wear masks. Time will tell.
I also spent quite a bit of time on the phone. The friend who has dementia apparently has my phone number by her phone. It was sad and tiring but the Covid family is also related to her so her granddaughter didn’t go to spend the day with her on Saturday as she usually does so she was quite desperate to talk to someone.
That is more than you needed to hear. I am back to birthday cards and Christmas cards. I should finish by the deadline for mailing!
