F2F Survey Report (a bit long, but please read!)
A big thank you to all the people who responded to our survey! Sixty-four responses were submitted. There was a lot of love, and many great ideas. Here are the highlights and some insights into how you can get even more out of F2F:
First of all, over 96% of you find that being on one of the F2F teams has helped you lose weight and improve fitness, 41% consistently and 56% at least some of the time. This is great! Most people are active in the team chats, and enjoy them as the best part of F2F.
The full group challenges are used by about half of the respondents. There are a few people who are not aware of them, or just get frustrated with MFP navigation. I know that navigating around the different areas of F2F can be tricky, especially if you are using a phone or tablet, but if you all bookmark/mark as favorite the F2F “home” page, you can find everything from there more easily. Here it is:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/114605-fat-2-fit-weight-loss-challenge-and-support-group
Full group challenges are meant to be optional, so there is no problem if you don’t have time or they do not interest you. We try to vary them as much as possible. Some people would like more fitness-based challenges, especially if they include modifications for those who need them. We’ll keep this in mind! If you have other suggestions, they are always welcome in the Idea Lounge (get there from the main page link above).
Internal team challenges also get about a 50% thumbs up (step teams, etc.) and some people would like to see more of that, others find it just clutters up the chat thread. Keep reading for some ideas on how to improve your experience if you are not feeling like your team does it for you!
One of F2Fs strengths is the openness to different approaches, ways of supporting one another, ages, levels, and general styles. A few people who answered the survey were unhappy with what I would call the team style or “feel”. Too much chat, not enough chat, too many challenges, not enough, too strict, too open - you get the idea. If you are feeling any of those things, please take some time to read the other team chats. Just browse through a few days of each, and see if there is one that fits your own style better than where you are. A change of team is always possible, and sometimes gives renewed energy and feeling more “at home”. Never hesitate to ask for a change if you want to give that a try!
If you want to make your team even better, go ahead and suggest some ideas. See what your teammates think, get involved, and you will improve your own weight loss while helping others. Don’t just wait for the captains to do everything :-)
A couple other problems people encountered that can’t really be fixed easily:- Tracking difficult? Not sure what this means. Members do not need to track - only post weekly weigh-ins. If you have any problem, please ask on the team chat or by message. I’m sure it can be made clearer.
- Too many new people on the team at the beginning of each month. No one likes it when this happens. This is why it is super important to make new people feel welcome, have their posts answered, spend some time chatting with them so they do not feel like strangers and don’t just disappear. No team needs new members if no one leaves… it is in everyone’s interest to build a community where you only need a couple of new people from time to time. The first week each month is the key to keeping members, but sometimes it just isn't the right moment, or they signed up for too many things. It happens - so do your best to keep them, and don't sweat it too much if they decide to leave.
Some new ideas that might be fun:- Body measurements instead of just weight - maybe monthly?
- Full group thread on how to set goals, kind of a step-by-step
- Weekly milestones? Habit tracker record for the week, fitness goals accomplished, etc.
- Maintenance chat - there is one! Called “Goal Zone” - check it out! Link from main page.
- Full group discussion threads - check out the Idea Lounge (can be ANY kind of ideas), and the Recipe thread.
- Buddies - feel free to set this up with anyone on your team, or if you want to know who has which fitness tracker, there is a thread on the main page for that as well.

I have been workIng so hard at writing my thesis, I neglected myself. haven’t logged anything for the past 5 weeks. I gained a lot of weight in that time and I was thinking why am I finding it hard to get a hold of my self. I think being on this group has really helped me. Just reading through put a smile on my face. Simple things like goal setting taking a walk or drinking 2L of water was very helpful. I will do a weigh in on Sunday. I want to get back into the habit of tracking what I eat.7

Mid week looks pretty good for me this week. I’ve exercised, eaten right, drank lots of water, not had any alcohol and tracked my meals. This is definitely not my usual week and it feels great! When I’m in I’m all in.6

Hi Grace! @graceojo999
I am so glad you have still been reading the team chat even though you have been working so hard on your thesis. You are still looking after yourself by doing the huge important thing, and still trying to meet those simple goals. You'll be able to get back into logging and losing weight eventually - progress, not perfection, right?
For now, I will put you in the Support Team, since you have been away for a while. You will still weigh in, post here, and get yourself slowly back into the routines. Is that OK? Your weigh-ins will not count as part of the team total, so even if you still have a bad week or 2, there will be no pressure. If you would rather come back into the regular team right away, let me know. In any case, you'll be right up there for January! Hugs to you.2 -
So much chatter I can't keep up anymore. Its good to see everyone is lively!
I've officially moved to maintenance calories for the rest of December. I'm too burnt out to keep at it right now. January can be a new start, for now I need leeway to indulge in hot chocolate.
That said, I gotta stop eating cookies for breakfast. I'm starving.7 -

Just as well we're getting a foot of snow tonight and just as well I can't get the snowblower to stay running, my eating has been pretty awful for 2 days now - yikes it's my weigh in day tomorrow morning - and I'll get the chance to 'snowshovel' off the calories I've taken in. I need to work on some strategies that WORK for the weeks I work at home.6

Not much news today. Just trying to take it easy. Hip/back is still a pain when standing. Luckily I’m fine sitting or laying flat. @KellyBgetsfit Yes! I have done down dog and that definitely helps. Thanks for the suggestion. No nausea feeling today. Just when the pain was REALLY intense yesterday. Haven’t taken any anti inflammatory today. But I always try to cut it off too soon. Hopefully tomorrow is even better.
@jugar Thanks for all your work on the survey.
Great commitments to logging, exercise, getting on track here tonight. Glad to see @graceojo999 back. Writing your dissertation is a big deal. Be good to yourself. Do what you can. 🙂
@Steph1498 Good for you having a good week. That’s disco. <<I wrote discipline and it got changed. Funny!!😂
@Terytha Good to see you checking in. Savor that hot cocoa.
@eggfreak Hope you don’t get too much snow. We had sleet/rain today. Mostly rain though. Watch that heavy snow shoveling.
Have a good one everyone.4 -
@YinxFed I am so glad you got Eddie to the vet! OMG he is so stinkin' cute 😍. Love him so much!
@mbakhtiaruz Great job posting regularly and getting those check marks 👏
@ micki48 Take care of that hip yikes 😬
@eggfreak fingers crossed that you have a good weigh in tomorrow. I'm tomorrow too and I am hoping for good news too.
Today at work many of the classrooms are doing gingerbread men activities. One room was doing gingerbread experiments and they were smelling them and trying to describe the smell. One 4 year old confidently said "gingerbread men smell like Canada! " The teacher was very caught off guard but thanked the child for their respone.
Well Canadians, does Canada smell like gingerbread? Inquiring minds want to know in Washington state! 😆 LOL7 -
@conleywoods thanks 😊 posting here is really helping me, because whenever I get tempted to skip the plan or get unmotivated I think that I have to report tonight and then have to try my best.
Hahaha one of first photos that my sister shared with me when she moved to Edmonton was her an her colleagues making ginger bread house. I also got the impression that this kinds of fun activities are being done there more than Netherlands.3 -
@micki48 sorry to hear about the pain you're dealing with. Hope you feel better soon.
@KellyBgetsfit being in a funk is the worst, it can be so hard to get motivated when you get in a funk. Hope it improves soon!
@Gidgitgoescrazy 4 interviews for one position? Good luck!

Oh working from home itself makes lots of things chaotic. Getting colder and snowing also tempts me to eat more (maybe to feel getting warmer and more cozy?). When I was a kid our refrigerator had a lock on it, I wish the new refrigerators could have the same option, so when I wanted to eat more I couldn't have access to food😁 but for now that there is no lock, only reporting here is helping me.4 -
Good morning team!
@eggfreak my husband misses the snow SO much. I'm sure he has been doing a snow dance. It's everywhere, but here! haha
@jugar how is your hip?
@MandiSaysHey Your steps are fantastic! You go girl!
Have a great day! Chat soon,

A lock with a timed release - perfect! I know a few cupboards that could use a lock too
Although I am not reporting to this group nightly as you are, there have been times, even in the last week where I have consciously made a better food decision because of it. Thank you Waistaways!
