One of those days so will be back once I’ve had my evening meal BUT FIRST…. Anne, please take your medication! I hope the doctor warned you about shingles near the eyes. You could inadvertently touch the area then rub an eye and do what my dad did, agony and blindness!! You’re too stoic by half, in fact it should be your middle name!! As Sandy says, medications have improved dramatically but of course they have to list possible side effects so they can’t be sued!

So pleased you’re back with us… I was very worried! ❤️

Oh my ! You must be so relieved, in a way, by your diagnosis Anne: now you know what it is, how to treat it, how long it will last, it sounds like you found a very competent doctor. Thank Goodness. From your picture and the difficulty breathing I was in a panic from several thousand miles away from you. After my cancer operation, I got shingles. It was around my waist toward my back. I did take meds for the symptoms. But it sounds like you and your doc will work things out. You will never know how worried we all were about you. You mean the world to us!

It is a very hazy day. I suspect from the smoke in California. It seems mild in temp. Great! Yesterday was muggy and humid. We do live in troubled times but there are good things happening along the way.

I think John is still fussing around with stove pipes. It is an important safety thing. We can’t really use the wood stove until it is repaired. Not that we need it currently.

I am giving my rock paintings a clear coat of varnish so they can hold up during the winter if left undiscovered. My fairy houses are slow going. I may need to find sturdier twigs and leaves as building materials. I normally do several rock painting and now fairy houses at once. I will admit it is like making doll houses. An activity my daughter and I enjoyed when she was a tiny little girl.

Just to be clear, I understand shingles are painful and scaring. Nothing to be taken lightly. I was so concerned about extreme symptoms that could life threatening.

Hello all sneakers! Lin, I will check back later to see the teapot and hear your news.

Rain, rain and more rain but thanks very much, my garden is watered and green again so no more, please!

A soggy walk on the moors and then home to wait for the drains man. Ashley duly arrived but immediately said he couldn’t climb ladders because he’s not insured and didn’t have many tools because he was driving the bosses truck while his got new brakes in his! Not off to the best start, especially when George slipped through the cat flap and ran snarling at him; the poor man looked terrified so I collected my security dog and popped him in my kitchen out of the way. An inspection with a camera showed there wasn’t a blockage so the conclusion is the old pipes are throwing out rust that collected when not in use. Best to keep flushing clean water through the system until clear. He gave me a discount price because I’m an OAP! I didn’t ask for it so he obviously thought I’m older than I feel… how upsetting is that!!
Three phone calls from different friends, one to tell me her son has tested positive for Covid so she and her husband have to self isolate although they currently keep their 3 horses in fields a few miles from home so might have to ask friends for help. No point asking me as I know nothing about these dignified creatures. Every hole in the old ceiling beams created by huge nails used to hang a false ceiling back in the 70’s are now filled. I’ve also painted a second coat of Buttercup on the chimney breast but stopped before I get too tired.

A small choc ice then an early night after washing up the day’s dishes. I may well check for Lin’s teapot too. 🫖

I am glad you are back Anne. What a peculiar occurrence with the bite/sting and the shingles all at once. Do take care. Shingles is not an easy thing to get over from what I have heard. My friend’s husband had shingles near and in his eye. He had a number of trips to the doctor and ophthalmologist before it subsided. For him, it was not a quick healing. He took all medicine that was prescribed to him.

I know of two other people who had shingles. One is relatively young but did have the 2 Shingrix shots and still ended up with the shingles although she was over them fairly quickly. The other gent got shingles on his back and around his sides. He already had severe back problems. The pain nearly drove him crazy. The shingles were very slow to disappear. So just saying, stay away from upsetting news, take it easy and do go back to a doctor or eye doctor if more symptoms appear. Fingers crossed for improvement each day. Sorry if it sounded as if I was preaching, just concerned for your good health.

I am stocking up for winter, again. The mornings feel like fall with temperatures starting out in the high-40’s to low 50’s F each day. Still chasing critters at some point each day. By the time I see them usually there is a bit more damage. They are always at the top of their game!

Patsy, happy rock painting and fairy house construction. I think it is difficult to accomplish things these days with the mind always circling around events in the news, and concerns for friends and acquaintances.

Sandy, this time the shingles shot is a 2 dose regime. I cannot remember the number of weeks between them. The pharmacy knows. Several of my friends have gotten the new vaccine. I believe I received the old shot which is now what, ineffective? No Bryanna this evening. Gosh, that's too bad. I think everyone in your family is very busy. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Jackie, do you have a steady supply of tomatoes now? The ground squirrels really seem to prefer tomatoes and sweet potatoes. The little wren goes for squash and tomatoes, the squirrel likes my marigolds and sweet potatoes, the bunny will grab anything! The Cardinals have stopped grabbing at the tomatoes and moved on to better pickings. So, in sum, my supplies are limited due to sharing.

I signed up for another card class in November. I don’t have many details yet but it is fall themed.

Nothing much new here, reading, putting away ordered supplies as they arrive, sending back return items that do not work out, always have cards on my mind. There are 2 in person card making opportunities in the next few weeks. Extremely tempting but I will pass again. The one class has 40 people—too many for me. The other class has no information on capacity.

And I do have plenty of puzzles at the ready in case I get tired of reading. 😂

Wishing everyone well. Long distance hugs.

Just want to thank all you dear friends for your concern. It means a lot to me and I equally worry about you girls as we get older and try to avoid the many boulders in our paths. A sense of humour helps.
I was told yesterday I didn't look my advanced age and I couldn't help replying "well I bl...y feel it". The problem with self diagnosis is we don't always get it right. ME. And then we treat it with inappropriate things, Marks donated pills for instance. By the way the doc gave me an eye test and all was well yesterday. To add to the blisters I had a red dye put in my eye so I looked even worse!
Life carries on but just had to give you all a very BIG THANK YOU.

Happy Friday! :) Lunch date with Joe which makes him happy as I cancelled last week. Laundry is started but will have to finish when I return. Another beautiful day with windows open.

Anne, we all worried about you and we are so happy you went for medical advice. Self diagnosis is probably something we all do from time to time but when it is painful or serious it is best to go see a doctor. I do hope you are taking the meds for the pain and faster healing. May I ask what kind of pills Mike donated?? I am glad you had an eye exam and really hope things improve fast. We love you little lady.

Lin, I guess I don't mind the two shots but with the booster, the flu shot and possibly shingles shots I will feel like a human pin cushion. lol Pretty tea set.

Jackie, so the pipes are not fixable? There is always something when you own your own home isn't there? Of course being a tenant I have many things that need fixing but my landlord is just too cheap and doesn't care. Chances are I might be moving next July but I hate moving so much I will see.

Patsy, I would be honored to find one of your rocks or fairy houses, I think it is a wonderful thing you do.

Not much time so I have to shower and get ready to pick up Joe. Have a good day everyone.

Just a quick hello from me because with the medication the hospital doctor gave me I've got a headache. A possible side effect apparently. My throat doesn't seem quite so sore.

Mary Jo and Mark came over yesterday to bring me two books and they ended up doing a bit of gardening and I joined in doing a bit of weeding but not today. I just feel like a nap!

The groceries came so the new system is working. I wonder what happened to lovely Dorio.

Nothing to report except I've got an appointment with my own doctor on the 16th. Can't go earlier because the energetic hospital doc said to wait a week. Honest he was like the tv bunny, everything quick about him even his speech.

    So "see" you tomorrow,

The looks very hazy and cool. Not sure what the afternoon will be. Yesterday and the day before afternoons were sunny and quite warm. Mystery weather…who knows?

The apples are red at the very top of our crabapple tree. All lower apples are gone and no apples on the ground. The deer, squirrels, and Bigfoot have enjoyed the harvest. I don’t think I would feel right eating any crabapples. As John says, “okay Miss patsy, I hope you know that those are not your apples. So hands off, sweetheart!”

I am ordering a new pair of the fanciest new PJs. Lace, soft pink in color, silk! Should be a treat to jump into these after a day of blue jeans and a sweatshirt. Brings out the girl in me.

Anne: I am so glad you are taking your meds, getting some rest, let the healing begin! As you know, shingles are not fun and there is a close relationship with chicken pox. It takes a while to get over them. So glad you had a good experience with your ER doc. They are a busy group and have little time for nice-nice talk. Sad sign of the times.

Sandy: I think your friendship with Joe is wonderful. He is so lucky to have you as a caring friend. I know that kind of thing rarely happens, especially now in time of Covid. One of happy moments is when I go back to check on my rock and see that it is gone. Someone found it and liked it enough to take home. The fairy houses are still a bit of a mystery. I would feel bad it I found them just smashed. That is a real possibility. But the fun was creating them in hopes of delighting some child.

Lin: you are right to think ahead. Who knows when our weather will turn bad and we need our mind occupying activities. Card making, puzzles, books, needlework. There is always enough time in a day to show a bit of love and friendship. If a couple of chores have to wait until tomorrow, who cares? Therefore our house never gets completely dusted at once. Oh, the list goes on and on.

A cool Autumnal morning so a hat was required on our morning walk across the moors to stop the damp breeze ruining my tidy hair… just flattened it instead! We were later than normal after I enjoyed my first lie in in months. A lie in for me is no later than 8am but it meant the rest of my morning was at a leisurely pace. George chose the route for our walk while Betty trotted along happily behind him.
    tjidw1pilezq.jpeg

I picked up some shopping for Chrissie and dropped in with some eggs courtesy of my hens and beans from the allotment. Bella is getting more comfortable around me and at one point came across to where I was sitting and let me stroke her so that’s a good sign she is settling in. By the time I returned home and made a cup of tea it was too late to begin painting so maybe tomorrow.

Anne, one of the main symptoms of shingles is a headache so it’s not necessarily your medication causing it. Be kind to yourself for a few days, rest your body and mind. A lot has been going on around you recently. ❤️

Sandy, I hope your lunch with Joe was enjoyable. Do you go to a public place or eat at his facility?
It doesn’t seem you’ve had many days at the pool this year but perhaps that’s just my imagination. I’m hoping the pipes will be ok and it was nothing more than corrosion while they sat unused for so long. Time will tell which makes me feel uneasy. I hate water leaks but Dave the builder assured me when he left the system was safe.

Most of my tomatoes are still green Lin so I only manage a couple a day in fact I bought a punnet of cherry tomatoes earlier in the week which hurt! 😧. I share my fruit with wildlife so my cherry tree gets stripped as do the blueberry bushes. Luckily they are not so fond of rhubarb, crabapples and blackberries.

Bedtime for me and up earlier in the morning. It’s looking brighter this weekend.

    Take care everyone.

Good Evening. My brother is not doing well and is on hospice. The nurse put him on oxygen and morphine. My niece told her that she was having a priest come Monday but the nurse said to not wait that long. I am going to go after rush hour tonight to be with him and the family.

I do take Joe to a restaurant but I go after the noon rush and there were only about two tables with people and they left so Joe and I were by ourselves. We also keep our masks on except for eating. Just an FYI.

Will try to keep you updated.

Hello friends. A day of reflection and remembrance. I have exchanged memories with one of my friends about people we knew who were at Ground Zero on 9/11. The ones I knew were able to escape. Not without life changing results. She worked with a gentleman who was in New York for a meeting and was never heard from again. My friend and I did not know each other 20 years ago. This was the first time we talked about it.

On a flip side of that, there is the huge football game today between the two largest Universities in this state. Tens of thousands of people are whipped into fan frenzy and will be tailgating, or will be in a sports bar drinking and munching the hours away.

Hoping everyone is okay today. It is expected to be quite hot today, in the 90’s F I believe. The beer guzzlers best stay out of the sun. They will dehydrate.

Anne, how are you today? Do you take anything for the pain? Sending all best healing wishes your way.

Jackie, aha, Bella is settling in a bit. Wonderful news. Oh my goodness, to have to purchase tomatoes in the summer, truly heartbreaking! I hope that means you will have lots of tomatoes much later in the season. Nice that you have blackberries. That caught my attentions. Yum. I had a visitor who was drying out his wings I believe.

Sandy, thinking of you today. ❤️❤️

Patsy, new PJ’s. They sound quite exquisite! I am sorry yesterday was yucky pizza day. Something more attractive tonight? I joined a bean club. Yes, a bean club. You receive quarterly shipments of a different variety of beans and then a surprise item. I have been waiting for a space to open up for well over a year. Here’s a photo of my first delivery. Now I have an overwhelming urge to make beans and rice!

    nx5mn2texyav.jpeg

I have signed up for a second fall virtual card class. Can you tell I am really missing getting together with people who are also making things? It is true. I so enjoyed getting together with people, maybe learning a little something, watching others and all the chattering. I know I would never go to Alabama for the in-person 2-day convention. So an opportunity popped up for just one virtual class and I jumped on it! It’s in October 🍁🍁 but it is Christmas cards! 🤣😂. The November class I signed up for recently is for Fall cards. 🥸

Well, I should move along to work on that needed birthday card that really does need to get in the mail next week.

Good morning all! Been watch 9-11 memorials this morning.

Seems like a 100 years since my last check-in. Heading out soon for Jean to give blood. Rather than write it all out some recent events include: NYS Fair concert, Grandkids return to school, eating healthy and diet in-check and last night open-air band music / dancing with a fresh milkshake for Jean. Can’t remember if I shared a pic of just how empty the NYS Fair was….but here it is the first day we went. Red dot = Jean. Attendance was less than half the norm for the entire 18-day Fair.

Sandy – Thank you for the comment on the young friend that passed suddenly. It was extremely tough on the family, since it was so sudden. Our weather has been pretty good and no real impact re: Ida.

Patsy – Oh my – Miss Franklin in concert at Red Rocks… someday I would live to go there. An old work friend of Jeans was there this week to see Jimmy Buffet! I know her and very happy for her…she had a rough first marriage, a couple kids with “big” physical challenges to raise alone…and then out of the blue a few years back she met someone…They dated for at least a year or more and next thing I knew they were married. She lives “the good life” now and they travel a lot etc. She deserves it all…like a Natural Woman. LOL. Like you, we love attending live concerts.

Lin – God was with us… rain held off except for a few drops!!! Yes, the Kool-aid stand did well. Love your story about the local food bank donation. Speaking of food and “stands” – Prices at the NYS Fair were NUTS. A single sausage sandwich was $12.00!!! Hope all is going well with your card creations – and weather.

Oh my – I need to head out now to make Jean’s blood donation appt on time – Hope everyone has a great afternoon. Best wishes Bob – will try to catch up reading posts between today and tomorrow. :)

Oh SANDY I'm so very sorry to read about your brother.
I'm heeding JACKIEs advice and taking it easy today, but I am on the mend. The pain has eased a lot. So I have got my feet up and reading "The woman in the window." Just started but so far so good.
Woke up this morning feeling decidedly chilly and as I wandered through to the kitchen the heat switched on. Not for long, but......here comes fall.

Oh Sandy, you know I’m thinking of you and your brother. He will be so pleased to know you have visited and will hopefully rally again. ❤️

Autumn has definitely arrived and although I walked high on the moors with George and Betty, a cold wind blew so I missed my little M and S vest!
I’ve painted all day so apart from a tiny tidy with white on the ceiling, I’m done… phew!

Wonderful teapots Lin and an incredible dragonfly. We are now asked to count and report sightings in Britain because they have become so rare. Climate change again!

Great to see Bob and his Jean are fine but busy.

Now going to relax and watch US tennis open ladies final. Canada v England!!

A lovely fall day here. Sunny and a bit cool. I awoke from a restless night. So far today I have experienced every human emotion possible. Right now I am settling on needing another mug of coffee and a few exercises outside on the deck. Listening to a spectacular OPB radio concert of Vivaldi and the Pasterol. Nothing too challenging just beautiful music in remembrance of a tragic day 20 years ago.

Making a finery chili and maybe a pan of Santa Fe cornbread. It has corn and red bell peppers, colorful and flavorful. The chili will be made with chicken or maybe even meatless if I can convince our meat loving John. Jury still out on that case!

Our adult children think they can fool us even after all these years….bwahahahaha! Damon has yet to tell me he has a serious romance going on. But I can tell. Truth be told, I would love it if he found a true live. Someone to share his life. Romance is the real stuff of life. Some times the romance can take the shape of a passion for creativity. Our musician friend used to have wonderful long discussions about music, different kinds and from different cultures and eras. Different music speaks to different cultures. He used to maintain that music is not the universal language. Not by a long shot!

Anne: it is wonderful that you are coming back so quickly. I felt awful for days. Of course, we all know I am a wimp. It is great to have an engaging book to read. Otherwise I don’t think we could hold you down for a whole day or more. You are very industrious!

Lin: oddly! That bean club sounds wonderful. How interesting to have a supply of different kinds of beans. I wonder if that would include split peas and lintels! Perfect time of the year to have a supply of dried beans. I am crazy about the seashell teapot. I have a huge supply of sand dollars that I have collected and I use them for things like gift tags or Christmas decorations or part of a decor weath for the front door etc. seashells are important!

Jackie: I would love to grow tomatoes like my dad and my grandmother used to grow. They did like you. Many varieties and colors and tastes. They used to pick a lot of green tomatoes at the end of the season, wrap them in paper, and they did ripen. They were also delicious.

Bob: while John was getting his doctorate, we were broke so I also worked part time for Aspen booking and reservations. I got to see lots of concerts and opening acts at the Aspen music festival. Some of the musicians had pretty bad manners. Some were gracious and held their music as a gift to be taken care of. Jimmy Buffet didn’t always behave, sad to say. But it was when he was young and trying his wings. Etzac Perlman was so gracious and charming and traveled with all 6 of his young children. No nanny. His wife was amazing. Calm while chaos reigned all about her.
Off to tend to my chili,

Happy Sunday. The US tennis open kept me up late last night so a leisurely start today. It’s cool and grey but so far no rain. The pooches enjoyed their hour run and sniff across the moors and I drove from there to a local village to take a couple of street photos for Sue, the gardener who helped me during and after my hip replacements. She moved away soon after that time but now wants to return and has seen a property for sale in her price bracket. She was going to drive from her current home on Tuesday and asked me if I would meet her there but then this morning emailed to ask if I would go alone. I’ve messaged I will go so long as the owners are advised beforehand but won’t be responsible for recommendations, just take photos and look around. I’ll admit I do find her erratic to the point of being unstable and she’s one of the anti vaccination group that thinks it’s all a big conspiracy so kind of relieved if she doesn’t visit because that would require a conversation and a half!!

Today I will do some house cleaning but nothing else planned. Most of the paint pots can be stored away but because the electrician will visit Wednesday to connect the last couple of lights and a heater, I’ll wait for his work to be finished because he’s incredibly messy so I anticipate some touching up!

Lin, that really is an amazing collection of beans… what a find! You did make me laugh about eating beans and rice for days in a row!

Patsy, so love is in the air! 💕 💕 How exciting but I’m guessing you have to wait to be told rather than ask the question! I’m sure all mothers want to see their kids settled in a loving relationship and why not.
In the past I have managed to ripen a few tomato stragglers in a brown paper bag but at the moment I’ve pounds of green babies! My new greenhouse is cosy so hopefully autumnal temperatures won’t put a stop to their ripening.

Anne, good to read you are feeling slightly better and have a good book to read. Everything else can wait, just get yourself better.

    Thinking of you Sandy. ❤️

This isn’t getting the kitchen floor washed so I’ll get off my backside.

Good afternoon. Church is over and I heated up some leftovers for lunch. One guess what it is! 😂

The weather is alternating between sunny and breezy to overcast and still. It is cooler today.

I dead headed my marigolds this morning and picked a few tomatoes. I watched church online and cut and stamped some little pieces to color. Still have that calendar project in mind. It is rattling around in there bouncing into other ideas.

I saw lots of photos of yesterday afternoon’s engagement party. Well attended. And there were lots of gift bags as well. I wonder what was in them.

Jackie, it is nice of you to act as a real estate go-between for your friend. So there are no online listings with loads of photos? We have those for houses as well as farms and acreages. Keep yourself safe my friend. My friend who is moving to Florida is still on the road today. She hopes to arrive tomorrow evening. Lots of people moving about these days. Glad the electrician will return soon.

Anne, I hope you are feeling better today. A bit each day!

Patsy, hummm, a romance. I hope you hear more eventually.

Sandy, thinking of you today. ❤️

Bob, some of my friends went to an indoor Allan Jackson concert last night. Apparently no vaccine cards or negative tests required. The place was packed! Folks want to experience in person music again.

    Long distance hugs everyone.

Pretty dull day here when it comes to writing, but am I ever ready for a nice dull day after the last few weeks ....you bet!

Michael was supposed to come over today but was feeling under the weather which isn't surprising when you think of all the running about he's been doing with pesky parents. I don't think he's got time for romance PATSY, poor lad.

I felt better this morning so I made myself a huge vegan shepherds pie which should last me three dinners. It was my own concocted recipe and actually I'll make it again, if I remember what I put in it; because it's really tasty.

These little blue pills I'm taking really knocked me out after that effort so I decided to have a nap this afternoon which didn't work! I hadn't slept the night before so I thought I'd be out like a light, but no. Didn't affect Bean though because she slept all afternoon under dark skies and rain clouds rolling in.

Still looking like something dug up. The blisters are now dark red scabs. Very unappealing!

    Anne. 😡

My brother died this morning peacefully. I am the last of four siblings and will miss my big brother.
I am happy I got to spend the last 2 days with him and was there for my niece, we were a comfort to each other.
His funeral is Wednesday followed by a luncheon. I am very tired as it was a rough couple of nights.
I am fine and glad he is peaceful, his quality of life was not pleasant.
Thank you for all the good wishes.

Thank you for the wonderful thoughts, your kindness is always appreciated. I got some sleep and I am going out with some friends this afternoon to keep busy. The funeral is early Wednesday as the family didn't want a two day service. Viewing will be 8:30AM to 10:00AM followed by a Mass at 11:15 with a luncheon to follow. As customary in our family many will come back to the house to be with the family. It involves drinking and eating and if I weren't his sister I might bow out but my niece wants me there to be with her. She even wants me to spend the night so I don't have to drive home in the dark as it is about an 45 minute to an hour drive. I might try to leave before dark depending how things go. I will miss my brother as I do my other siblings especially my sister but life goes on and we hold on to the memories.

Keep smiling, enjoy life and make the best of everyday. Hope you are all feeling well and keeping safe.

    Sandy

I gues everyone knows about the iPhone hack. And the great need to update. Hope everyone is okay and your phones are safely updated. We are fine here. Very tired after a busy day yesterday and this afternoon. I feel ready for bed right now but still need to straighten up the kitchen. Be safe, dear ones. Thinking of you all especially dear Sandy right now.

Hi Patsy, I didn’t know about the latest iPhone hack… yikes, I’d better search just in case. I did download a security update yesterday that my settings reminded me about. Hope that isn’t the scam! 🤭

Busy days but I’m now at the final tiny jobs and of course, still wiping dust off surfaces. This afternoon I viewed a property for gardener Sue. If I was looking to move into a small bungalow I would be more than happy with it but when it came to emailing on information I didn’t offer a recommendation as that’s too much of a responsibility. I took George and Betty who sat in the car while I looked around then on the way home we stopped at an open area of common land so they had a 2nd long walk of the day. Me too of course!

I’ve enjoyed a piece of baked pork with steamed veggies and my usual cuppa this evening and now ready to put feet up. The electrician will hopefully arrive in the morning to connect a couple of lights and heater while I go off to the hospital in Plymouth for my 3 monthly skin cancer check. It is in fact 5 months since my first examination but lockdown has slowed things and the operation on my arm and lymph nodes got in the way.

Oh dear, just coming up to 8pm and already dark outside! 😩

Hugs for everyone, especially Sandy. Oh yes, and of course our Anne with her painful face.

    Jackie 🥰

It was good to get out with my friends, it took my mind off of things for a while. I was going to go get my hair done and my nails done but decided to stay home instead. It was kind of a late night and I am tired. I have to be up by 6:00am tomorrow to get to the funeral home by 8:30 so it will be an early bedtime since it will be a long day.

Hope all are well and staying safe.
