Happy Tuesday! :) Still bitterly cold here as well. Another day of staying in but tomorrow a heat way when it gets in the teens. I am supposed to sit tomorrow but waiting to see if original plans are still in place which were just confirmed. Lisa's mom will go early and take kids to school (if there is any) and I will go later to relieve her. Same for Thursday. I haven't seen the kids since Max's birthday on the 6th but know I will be sitting a lot more once Lisa's parents go back to Florida on the 29th. It has been kind of nice just staying in and relaxing, not something I do a lot. I even rode my recumbent bike yesterday and hope to do it again today.
One of our four ladies is in the hospital because of her asthma, her daughter called 911 for her on Sunday because she was having a hard time breathing. She is better now and might be released today.
She is 89 so we do worry about her and her husband who is 92 I believe. Time has just gone so quickly, it seems we were all so young not that many years ago and now in the last quarter of our lives. Hard to comprehend sometimes, don't you agree?

Anne, that would be wonderful if Mike could find a house with a granny flat. That would be the only way I would live with one of my kids, if I had my own quarters with my own stuff. Glad to hear Mike has a new companion and glad you like her.

Enjoy your day the best you can and stay warm and healthy.

Hello, sorry I missed posting yesterday. I was busy and all of a sudden I was so tired I had to get some rest. Well that was it for me on Monday. I hadn’t slept well on Sunday night and was awake for a couple of hours so I guess I am not surprised I was worn out. I was awake for an hour and a half last night and there’s nothing much I want to do at 3am except sleep. My eyes need rest so I just try to sleep.

Today I am signed up for 3 of the Silver Sneakers classes, different classes than yesterday. I am doing laundry, did get the letters out to the mailbox. Yippee! I have done the cardio walk and next up is line dancing. That is something that I have never tried. Hope I don’t trip over my own feet. 😂

Anne, my goodness, that is an interesting idea but it may not be something that is feasible given the state of many real estate markets. I hope whatever is best for you and Jilly is what happens. Meanwhile, I am glad you are pretty well settled in and are looking forward to spring and doing a bit of container gardening.

Sandy, I think a lot of people are having problems with TV. This kind of weather can really bring on so many issues and outages. Do take care. I hope to do some errands tomorrow but I am not certain my car will start. The temperature is below freezing in my garage and I haven’t started my car for over a week. I guess that will be a problem to face tomorrow. Take care.

Jackie, I am in shock, planting tomato seeds? Not something to contemplate here for quite a long time. Actually, I don’t, at this time, plan to grow anything except lettuce and green beans. Hello to George and Betty. I hope everything in your home continues to work. I don’t have cable tv now but I watch lots of programs on my TV through my Roku box. In fact, I have started watching a lot of YouTube content on my tv. It saves the battery on my iPad which goes down much faster these days.

    Hello to our missing Sneakers.

    Be safe everyone.

Oh for goodness sake! I typed a long post about my busy day, selected save draft so I could go back and check Sandy’s post and mine disappeared! 😠🤬
Time for me to cook a meal but will try to return later. Pleased to see Lin has arrived as I typed. I was worried Lin because your last post mentioned a smell of overheating! I will read yours before I cook.

Hello and goodnight. I’m off to bed! I’ve walked a couple of hours in the sunshine, visited the farm supply store for the hen’s food and local butter and cheese for me, spent time with the window cleaner who also cleaned out my gutters when he found a slipped roof tile that he repaired, cleaned out the hen house, chopped logs collected coal and finally collapsed with a cup of tea around 4pm!

Hooray for Mike Anne. None of my business but I would love to see you back to real independent living! I read today that although here in the UK we are encouraged to eat five fruit and veggies a day, Canada has its goal set at 10!

Sandy, you are on the previous page again so I’m not going to look! 👀

Lin, the tomato seeds are in trays until they grow and that growth tends to be slow in our climate so we’re advised to get started in January. Have you ever watched the BBC series Butterflies? I think it must have been broadcast in the 80’s. Funny but also poignant.

    Nite, nite

Hi Jackie, I have heard of Butterflies but never did manage to find episodes to watch. Maybe there are some on YouTube now. My favorite show for a while at least was The Good Life. I have watched that several times.

    See you tomorrow!

Hi Lin, I’ve found a few Butterflies episodes on YouTube but unfortunately they don’t appear to be in order and the series was following an ever changing story. Gives you an idea though.

Back later with main post. Freezing here! 🥶

Happy Wednesday! We are having a warmer day which will reach the teens. Happy about that as I am going to Rob and Lisa's around noon to let the dogs out and then wait to pick up kids from school. Max has a doctor's appointment and Religious Ed so will be staying to put the other two to bed. Lisa's mom and dad went early to take the kids to school so I really appreciated that and the same tomorrow. It will be my first time out of the house since Thursday so I will welcome the change of scenery.

Haven't heard of the series Butterflies but I did some binge watching of other shows that were given awards on the Emmy Show. I watched Beet and next will be Bear followed by Succession. I am sort of a TV addict with all the shows I watch. lol

I don't have a lot of time so have a good day and continue to stay warm and healthy.

A lovely surprise! I have just received a card from Patsy’s daughter, Andrea. My address was on the envelope of the Christmas card I sent. I will read it properly with my afternoon cuppa and let you know what she says. ❤️

Good afternoon. Well yesterday the four of us at lunch had a good giggle, after all we are still teenagers grown old.
It was lunchtime and I plucked up courage to ask Bernie who’s 92 a very personal question. “What sort of bra do you wear because my underwire bras are very uncomfortable these days?” Back came the answer, she hasn’t worn a bra for years ever since she chucked hers away during that revolution years ago when in the 1960s? young women were throwing their bras on a bonfire. And what’s more none of the elderly ladies here wear bras anymore. As Bernie said, men don’t wear bras, so why should we. Mind you I think some of the old overweight lads here could do with a wonderbra. We did a survey and to much hilarity found some of the servers and the nurse who is not well endowed don’t wear bras either. So back I trotted to my apartment to chuck away my lacy Triumph with abandonment.

    So……..
Didn’t wear a bra today and was passing the lounge with Jilly Bean when I got hijacked by the property manageress. She wanted me to sit on a sofa near the fire with Bean on my knee and be photographed by a professional photographer for a brochure of the home. It will be a hoot if it gets chosen and we’ve been lured away by Michael by then. She wanted me not because I’m a great beauty but because no one else was around, everyone else down in the basement gym doing “Zumba?” to music. I was horrified if it gets chosen, me not wearing a bra! Back in the apt. I immediately donned my lacy Triumph again and was late for lunch. I tell you, never a dull moment for Anne even in the home for the elderly.

How was your day? Ruddy cold here, broken weather records for extreme cold. Although I wouldn’t know huddled inside. The only other news, DIL Mary Jo fell off a ladder and hurt her back. What on earth was a 58 year old lady doing on a ladder. Must find out. It’s slowly getting better. Hey ho.

    Anne.

:) We, too, have had weather that was colder and harsher than usual--a few inches of snow and temps down to 6 F. The result was that we stayed home on Friday. Jake called to cancel his 9 AM appointment with his primary care doctor. Moments later, they called back and got him connected with her via zoom so he doesn't have to reschedule, By Saturday, the roads had been plowed in our neighbourhood and on the highway so we drove to the drug store to pick up prescriptions and came straight home. We were happy with how the Tesla handled on icy roads even without fancier all weather tires. On Sunday morning we picked up our groceries at 8AM and came straight home. We went nowhere on Monday as temperatures started to return to closer to freezing. Yesterday we went to Jake's semi annual appointment with the dermatologist. Annie and I waited in the car with the heat on.

    n76a0tml3ktp.jpg

I used "dog mode" for the first time

:) Today it was warmer and there was more snow so Jake called to cancel his appointment with the chiropractor for this afternoon. Before he could call to cancel Bessie's appointment with the vet tomorrow, they called to say that the specialist she was going to see canceled because he was coming over from Seattle and didn't feel safe driving.

:) Thanks to Yak Trax I took all my morning walks and my walking friend and I walked together in the evenings.

:) This is unusual weather for us so we're not as accustomed to handling it the way people are in other parts of the country.

My card from Andrea was very warm and friendly as she introduced herself and reported that her mom had passed. She told me where to find Patsy’s obituary so, as she has given me an email address, I’ve responded that Lin found it a couple of weeks ago and how upset we were but loved the photos of her beautiful mom.

She tells me that while Patsy endured a lengthy illness she had John, Damon and Andrea every day to cheer her. John is now enjoying having both her and Damon close by. He is taking care of Katie, enjoying his music and movies but also eating out and socialising.
She says our Golden Sneakers friendship was very important to Patsy and she spoke of us regularly. She asked if I was the lady who knits clothes for stressed chickens but that it could be her mom made that up since she was quite the storyteller! I do remember an amusing exchange about knitted coats for hens once but not mine!
I will email Andrea’s email address to our little group in the morning but right now must get to bed.

Hello my friends. We had a relatively warm day today so it was a good day to get supplies although there was still lots of ice on the roads and in the parking lots. It has been a busy day. Not worth going into all the details but it was time consuming stuff.

Jackie, wonderful to hear about the note you received from Andrea. It is very nice to know that Patsy did tell tales about the Sneakers. Knitting for chickens! That’s a good one. Very good to know that Katie is being looked after and that John has family close. I did watch part of an episode of Butterflies. Will try a bit more in the next few days.

Barbie, I love the dog mode! ❤️❤️ Quite an interesting feature. Does Annie enjoy the rides in the car?

Anne, quite the conversation my friend. I only wear a bra on special occasions. The idea of shedding it horrified me at first but when a friend told me she had it stopped wearing the nasty things quite a while ago, I jumped right on the bandwagon. Sorry to hear of Mary Jo’s fall.

Sandy, I hope you enjoyed the warmer day. We have snow beginning about 3am although the forecast this time is for only 3 inches. Temperatures plummeting again over the weekend. Ack!

Well, time to run along. I need to get a box of Kleenex from the basement. I need to replace the empty box in the bathroom.

    Be well.

:) Annie loves to ride in the car with us but we are not yet comfortable leaving her alone in the car. Bessie doesn't like riding in the car so we leave her at home with a treat. She can be trusted to not get into anything while we are gone.

:)Jackie, Thanks for sharing the news from Patsy's daughter.

Happy Thursday! :) Warmer today, if you call 17 degrees warm. Another dog and kid sitting day and will be a long day unless Rob gets home earlier than expected. Seeing Lin's husky photo made me laugh because as I was about to pick kids up from school yesterday, Ewok got out the front door and was running all over the neighborhood. He wouldn't come when called and I was in panic mode not knowing what to do because I had to get the kids. I texted Rob and told him I was ready for tears and he told me to open the garage door and just go get the kids. He said Ewok would go in the garage and wait. So I opened the garage and was getting ready to leave when he ran into the garage. I was able to grab him and put him in the house but I was worn out. Huskies love to escape and run and even though he isn't a full bred he has those traits. Still have to love him though, he is a charmer as well as Obi.

Thanks Jackie for Andrea's email, I sent her a sympathy email with my condolences.

Barbie, those Tesla's do have some cool features, Cheryl's used to have Santa with his reindeer on her navigation for Christmas which made me laugh.

Have a good day everyone, I must eat and get ready for another day.

Good afternoon. Snowing again. The flakes are quite lovely when the snow is not blowing. It can stop any time now but it doesn’t seem to be letting up.

Looks like tomorrow morning will include snow shoveling.👀

Sandy, oh my, chasing an escaped Husky is incredibly difficult. One time someone who worked in my backyard didn’t fasten the gate and BOTH of mine headed for the hills. They elude capture when they are having fun. I couldn’t catch them now. Glad opening the garage door worked!

Barbie, thanks for the update. I am glad Annie isn’t frightened of the car. I can understand that you don’t feel comfortable leaving her alone. There are so many things to chew!

Jackie, I hope you had a good day without drama from the people involved in the allotment crisis. And I hope you and George and Betty are feeling well.

Anne, so will they show you a copy of that photo they intend to use before publishing? They take photos of all the Senior activities at the Urbandale Center and at all of the local libraries. They don’t let anyone know when they are in photos or that they are using them. People may just run across them later in online promotional material. Hope you are still well.

    Well, time to move along.

Hello Sneakers. I am posting while I enjoy cheese on toast lunch because yesterday ran away from me so I didn’t pop in! We have been experiencing coldest temperatures in 15 years but I’m managing to give George and Betty a decent morning walk once it creeps up to zero. Today we went later and managed to get to the top of the moors, walking carefully because the frozen ground is uneven. Betty has a knitted jumper I bought last year so, although she doesn’t run about quite so much, she keeps warm. George’s winter coat is thick at the moment and a nightmare to brush so I’m reminded of Patsy’s struggles with Katie!
I visited Sheila yesterday for coffee and after a long chat we agreed we will try to walk together tomorrow morning because it should be a lot warmer. With that comes more storms so we must expect strong winds Sunday night which is a shame because everyone agrees cold and dry is preferable.
Andrea will love to hear from everyone as I’m sure losing Patsy was a major upset for them all.

Lin, it’s a shame it’s not possible to watch Butterflies episodes in sequence because the storyline grabbed everyone!
I did ring Rachael’s doorbell yesterday while out but she wasn’t home. I will phone her later to see how she is but am sure getting the police interview out of the way will help.

Anne, please do share pictures of any catalogue carrying a photo of you and Jilly! It’s good you are finding residents to share your sense of humour. I stopped wearing a bra after radiotherapy gave me massive sunburn on one side but then I found clothes rubbed so compromised with a Sports bra which is ideal and as free as I want to be!

Sandy, that was quite an adventure for Ewok and you! Some dogs are closer to their wild ancestors than others!

My greenhouse has been minus five by 11pm and only warms up when the sun hits it about 9am but so far it does look like even my lemon tree has survived although not sure about the potted Hibiscus shrubs. Right now it’s time to take a mug of hot coffee outside and attempt to tidy.

    Happy Friday.

Happy Friday! :) Laundry has been started, cleaning lady coming at 11 and groceries being delivered around 11 as well. We had a little snow again so my plans of getting my RSV and shingles shot might be postponed unless I get the energy to venture out. Meeting Lisa, her mother and friend at the movie theater tomorrow to see A Color Purple. After mass I will be on a charity bingo zoom call. I do it every year since my son got me involved. Next week mani/pedi, a new crown on my tooth and getting my hair done. Just trying to get ready for our Vegas trip on the 31st.

Jackie, I hate winter with a passion but yours seems to be going on forever. Hopefully, you have a beautiful spring to make up for all this cold. I do hope Rachael wins against that bully, he deserves to be in jail.

Lin, I have to admit he looked so beautiful running in the snow, but I was so upset that he was going to run in front of a car. I am glad he came home before I left to pick up the kids.

Anne, so you will be a celebrity with your picture on their brochure, do they pay you for your time? lol

Barbie, Ewok can be let alone in the house but the little one has to be crated or they never know what he will get into. He likes the crate though so it is not a punishment type of thing.

    Have a good day.

Hello. We have sunshine today. I am thankful for that. We did receive another 4 inches of snow yesterday. I trekked down the street to the communal mailbox in the dark and fast falling snow and brought back the 2 packages USPS finally delivered yesterday. I bundled up, wore my tallest snow boots and used my walking stick to get there and back safely. Thankful to stay upright!

Jackie, I did see the last 2 episodes of Butterflies in order. Well, I think they were the last. The 3 primary adult characters were left seemingly dissatisfied with their lives. The boys were quite funny. I am sure it would be good to watch all the episodes in order. I have been watching the very old episodes of Maigret with Rupert Davies. I have been enjoying those. So many of the same line, “oui Patron.” 😁 Quite a few of these old shows have been added to YouTube lately. Enjoy any good weather that comes your way.

Sandy, busy, busy, busy! Even when you are staying home. Yes, a dog on the loose can get in so much trouble. A former neighbor never minded when his dog ran free because he always said he will come to me if I call. Well, the dog took off when they were out of town, apparently chasing a rabbit and he did not come. He was hit by a car. So sad, it was a beautiful dog.

Well, back to some little chores. I was on the phone with a friend who called and I had a difficult time breaking away.

Oh, and I did try yoga this morning.

    Be safe everyone.

Hello. Well I had a miserable night. No sleep for me. A sore throat and shallow breathing and gasping trouble. Mike was coming with a new phone for me the next day so fearing the worst I toddled off to the night nurses office to get tested for you know what at 5am. I was negative, but I was told to stay in my room and breakfast would be brought to me. Apparently the fast tests are unreliable. So there was me and Jilly enjoying a poached egg on toast when the day nurse showed up. Her test was a little more uncomfortable but will be sent to a laboratory. The results won’t show up until Monday which means I am in quarantine until then. Meaning if negative we will be free to wander out, but if positive Jilly and I will be isolated for 14 days. Could be worse because it is so cold here I’ve had to put the electric fireplace on that Michael bought us for Christmas. Bean has had a wonderful morning barking at all the food servers and nurses trooping in and out, and no one can complain with us being in isolation. lol. She’s now fast asleep, exhausted in her bed near the fire.

When all the residents were safely in the dining room, I quietly had a peek outside. Sure enough my front door is plastered with notices warning all not to enter etc and those that must to use a large bottle of sanitizer provided with other stuff used to protect from those with the dreaded lurgy. I personally think I’ve just got a very bad cold, but be sure to wash your hands after reading this, lol.

I’m amazed how our first day in quarantine has flown past. Almost dinner time.

    Anne.
