I am reading WITH EVERY MEMORY by Janine Rosche. It is a very good book. It is one I had saved on Everand. Since I'm not quite sure how soon the new program will roll out to people with prepaid accounts, I am trying to use it more. I might as well get my money's worth out of it.
I have been reading a lot of short Christmas novellas.0 -
I started and got about halfway through with SEEDS 2 but ran into cuss words! Bummer. The first book didn't have any!
I am re-listening to William Wilberforce. I'm also reading three different fantasies!0 -
I am listening to THE WAY OF THE WICKED by Ellery Adams. This is a cozy mystery about a Bible study group that is volunteering for a Meals on Wheels type ministry. It is not considered Christian fiction, but has more Christian content that a lot of CF does. I don't remember any slang, but something may have been thrown in, but wouldn't be a regular instance or I would remember. I don't pay as much attention if it isn't considered CF...it is pretty much expected in secular fiction. This is the second book in the series that I have read.
I also have been reading an anthology: Cornered
IN THE DARK by Lynette Eason
DOWNFALL by Lynn H Blackburn
Perilous obsession by Natalie Walters - will start this sometime today. The other two are good.
I have given some thought to my end of year, beginning of year reading. Several books that I have checked out I want to put in my 2025 reading challenge, so I think that some of my reading between now and the end of the year I am going to go ahead and add to January's reading. I usually start January after Christmas, this year I am just going to do December and January both between now and the end of the year.

With as many books as you read, Connie, you really do have to be organized.
I'm still working on the same books, four with my Wilberforce bio.0 -
I listened to:
THE CHRISTMAS BEAU Terrible narrator - Renee Allen McCoy. I think it might have been okay if it would have had a better narrator, but I am glad it was not too long (3.5 hours then at 175%). I doubt I try any of her other books
SECRET CHRISTMAS TWINS - Lee Tobin McClain. This was a really good Love Inspired.
I just started on the last book in the Cornered anthology - PERILOUS OBSESSION by Natalie Walters. It is good so far.
I also started listening to my first counted toward 2025
LEANING ON AIR by Cheryl Grey Bostrom - WHEW this is a heavy book. It is about an brilliant Autistic vet and his wife. I can't barrel through a book like this, I have to take it in smaller chunks. I am sure that it will be very good, but nothing is going to be easy...

I just got my Goodreads Books I've read over the past year assessment. I'm in the top 10% for the number of books I've read - you have to be in a % all to yourself, Connie! LOL!
I am about 80% finished in each of the three fantasies I'm reading and almost done with William Wilberforce.0 -
I really don't use goodreads very much. If my kindle slots it in, that's pretty much it. I set that goal at 250 and am currently at 272. I don't see a % to other readers.
I've read some other stuff besides LEANING ON AIR by Cheryl Grey Bostrom. It is just a hard book, and need light in between. I am listening now, but will turn to a lighter read before bed. I think this one is going to take a while.
Finished:
SECRET CHRISTMAS TWINS - Lee Tobin McClain (LI)
AMISH CHRISTMAS MEMORIES - Vannetta Chapman (LI)
Current:
CAN THIS BE CHRISTMAS - Debbie Macomber has some language. Her newer ones are cleaner and I mistakenly took this for a newer book.

Connie, I think they sent me an e-mail that gave me that information. For some reason my Amazon quit linking with my Goodreads so quite a few of the books I've read this year never made it over there. I had a goal of 150 but it says 90 something, which isn't bad.
I finished one of my fantasies last night and am nearly there with the other three. I started reading the first of the two Christmas stories by Robin Patchen last night. I am going to start on a Regency series of lady spies.0 -
I'm enjoying some older Christmas reads, several of which are rereads. Just finished THE CHRISTMAS SHOES by Donna VanLiere. I read it years ago, but didn't remember much about it. Bittersweet, but really good this time. There's 11 books in this series, so I hope to keep reading.0
-
Carole - I haven't read a Donna VanLiere book in quite a while. I have really enjoyed the ones I have read, though.
I am still working on LEANING ON AIR. It is really a good book, and isn't quite as hard to get through now, I am about 2/3 through it.
I finished:
AFTERMATH by Lisa Harris - last book in her EMP series, It was okay...but nothing to write home about.
GLADWYNN GRANT TAKES CENTER STAGE by Lisa R Howeler - cozy mystery, It was pretty good. I needed to read a KU book to make room for another one, and this easily slotted into one of the prompts on the reading challenge without being over 400 pages.
Current:
AN AMISH CHRISTMAS RECIPE BOX by Jan Drexler. This was to fulfill the prompt - recommended by librarian. Since I don't go in the library, I looked for a book on the front page recommendations on the Libby applications, and this was on it.
0 -
Were there six books in that Lisa Harris series. I think that's the one I read. A couple of them were really hard for me to get through, but I got through the series and that doesn't often happen!
I finished another of my fantasies and started a Hoopla audio ALL WE THOUGHT WE KNEW by Michelle Shocklee. I just started last night, but not sure I'm going to like it. It takes place in the late sixties, early 70's and the main character is full of anger and did some bad things with her life after her brother died in the Vietnam War. She's home because her mom is dying and she is just not going to have it! Like she knows what's best and is going to come in and ride rough shod over everyone because what she thinks is more important than those who have been living through it! Ugh! Narcissism. I'll try again tonight and hope that she gets a good dose of Christian truth!
I read some more in the Christmas mysteries by Robin Patchen and am enjoying it very much.
Carole, I forgot to mention how sorry I am that you are having a hard time right now - understandable though. You will be in my prayers too, especially for God's comfort and peace.0 -
Kim - I know that we don't necessarily like the same kind of books, but ALL WE THOUGHT WE KNEW by Michelle Shocklee is one of my top books for 2024. It's in my "WOW" book category! I have another by her that I want to read.
The book Aftermath is from the Fall Out Series. There was a prequel that was part of a boxed setm then 6 other books. I wasn't that impressed with AFTERMATH...felt like she felt like the series needed revisited and wrote the book as an afterthought.
I finished these, but I am counting toward 2025 so I can put in the reading challenge
LEANING ON AIR - it started really heavy, but gained strength with every page read. It was a solid 5*, but really not easy.
AN AMISH CHRISTMAS RECIPE BOX by Jan Drexler - okay. Light and easy Christmas Amish romance.
FLYNN - Oath of Honor series by Laura Scott - I really liked this one. I have enjoyed all the books in this series. There is one more that released this month. I am hoping to find the audio for it.
Current:
HIDDEN SINS by Edie James. So far it is pretty good. I have enjoyed her romantic suspense in the past and this one seems like it will be good. I need to clean out some KU reads! I don't want to just let them go back, but I have a couple Christmas books I want to check out and read before Christmas, then some books for the 2025 reading challenge I am working on.

Thanks so much, Kim. I'm doing pretty good overall, it's just that the holidays are so special and hold tons of memories. I'm playing at church in the morning and we're having a Christmas brunch before services, so that helps.
I'm trying a new author to me, Jessie Gussman, and I'm loving her writing so far. SLEIGH BELLS DREAM begins a new series. I looked her up on fantasticfiction.com and she has written lots of books!0 -
Carole- I love Jessie Gussman books! I have read all of them (over 100). She also has them on audio on YouTube. They are narrated by Jay Dyess - the channel is Say With Jay. I enjoy the YouTube audiobooks...free, but commercials. Her books are good romance, but always have a great redemption factor.
I Finished - THE BURNING OF ROSEMONT ABBEY by Naomi Stephens. This was set during the 1950s in London. I really enjoyed it.
Current - AN HONORABLE DECEPTION by Roseanna M White. This one is set in 1910s England. I am just getting started on it, so don't have an opinion, yet.

Connie, I enjoyed the Jessie Gussman book and was pleasantly surprised at the spiritual content. She did a great job laying groundwork for further family stories in the series and I'd like to continue while I can remember them well. Good bittersweet relational drama as well. Thanks for the audio information. I believe I could follow her stories without too much trouble, although I prefer reading.0
-
Connie, we definitely do have different tastes! LOL!
I am still working on the Nutfield Christmas stories and enjoying those. Waiting for the girl who thinks she has a right to the guy to start getting a bit violent with his new girlfriend.
I finished a fantasy novella that went with another series I was reading, although it was a couple of books back that the characters came from and I just didn't remember their story.
The fantasy Advent Calendar that I have been going to will go on until Christmas - woohoo. I already have several of the books on there, but it's nice getting some new ones.
I'm trying to start a new series by Donna Fletcher Crow but having a hard time getting into it. I'll keep trudging until I realize it just isn't for me or it gets really good!
I downloaded a Kimberley Rogers series I read years ago but has been coming to mind so I am going to try it again. I really liked it the first time.

Currently read:
VIRGINIA COMPANY BRIDE - Year 1608 - by Gabrielle Meyer. For a book set before 1800.
I have my KU full again, so needing to get some of them read so I can get my last two Christmas novellas downloaded to it,
Has anyone read Tim Downs Bug Man series, or Billie Coffey? They have both been highly recommended for men's reads, and have books that fit some more difficult prompts in this challenge I am working on. I have books checked out from Libby for both of them.
0 -
Connie, I've heard of Downs and Coffey. Like you, I've seen them highly recommended, but haven't managed to read one yet. Since I like police investigations, I might like the Bug Man series.1
-
I'm reading SHOOFLY PIE by Tim Downs. I turned it off before bed and started listening to something a bit less "buggy". It is good, though.0
-
I've heard of Tim Downs, I looked up Billie Coffey on Amazon and Hoopla but didn't see him in either place. Not sure I'd handle a buggy story very well.
I finished the missionary bio I was listening to, FLORENCE YOUNG. I am also listening to KINGDOM OF DANCE (a 12 dancing princesses re-make) by Deborah White.
SHADOW CHASER by Christy Barritt, so far am really liking it.
I'm re-reading a fantasy series by Kimberley Rogers.
THE LETTER by Edwina Kiernan, so far it is pretty slow going.
0 -
I finished SHOOFLY PIE by Tim Downs. It was good, but the book that I checked out from the library had 2 books in it, and I'm not sure if I want to read the second book right now. I'm not turning it back in just yet, but will wait a little closer to its due date. I needed a book with an insect on the cover. I thought CC Warrens Dragon Fly Ashes would have a dragon fly on it, but nope. Another I have already read was HE SHOULD HAVE TOLD THE BEES - it was a favorite last year. Oh, well.
I need to start the Billy Coffey book, but I found another book for that prompt in the reading challenge, so I don't know if I want to read it now, or put it off a bit. It came very highly recommended, so I will probably go ahead with it. The prompt was "unreliable narrator" and that usually isn't a favorite. I actually found one in a boxed set that I was reading.
Current:
INTO THE SUNSET by Mary Connealy. It's okay. I really miss her old style funny books. The is for a woman in a blue dress prompt.
SET THE STARS ALIGHT by Amanda D ykes (her name won't work on this platform). I DNF'd it a while back, but didn't mark why. I think I just wasn't in the mood for it. It is dual time, and pretty good.
I am needing a really special book. The books I am reading aren't exciting me very much. I'm enjoying the Love Inspired and Love Inspired Suspense books more than a lot of the others. I have Deborah Raney's newest book checked out on KU, but I'm trying to get through some library books before I get started on KU, again. I have a bunch of good suspense books on KU, but just haven't gotten started on them.

I'm reading a couple of Christmas books right now, both very good - KEEPING CHRISTMAS by Dan Walsh and A WREATH OF SNOW by Liz Curtis Higgs. I thought I had read all of Walsh's Christmas books, but apparently missed this one.0
-
I get that way sometimes, Connie. I just can't seem to find anything that hits a chord with me or draws me in, so I often go back to something I'd already read and keep plugging away at the new stuff.
Have you read THE ROOT OF THE MATTER by Lynn Tagawa? It is a futuristic time travel story where this group of people are able to go back in time to investigate certain events to see if they are accurately portrayed in history. John Winthrop and Roger Williams are the ones that they were going to investigate. It was really good.
A CHRISTIAN SOLDIER'S JOURNEY by Christopher Vaca was another one that was really good. It is similar to Pilgrim's Progress in that those who travel with him are named like those in Pilgrim's Progress. In this one it is the Fruit of the Spirit that goes with him. He was a soldier in satan's army but when he is injured and brought to God's army and meets Jesus, he gives Him his life and Jesus sends him on a quest. https://amazon.com/Life-Changing-Journey-Christopher-Vaca-ebook/dp/B0055MJBL2
I'm on the third book, SHADOW ASSIGNMENT in the Christy Barritt SHADOW AGENCY series. It's not as good as the first book, but I am enjoying it.
STORMLARKS AND SILENCE, a fantasy - it's alright.
LEGACY OF ROSES, also a fantasy - not as good as much of her other stuff.
THE SILENT NIGHT, a Sleeping Beauty re-tell. I'm enjoying this one.
I've been re-reading ROGUE SPOTTER fantasy series, but not into it like the first time I read it so leaving this one for times when nothing else is striking my fancy.
I keep going back to THE LETTER by Edwina Kiernan but am struggling to stay interested in it.

Working through the 50 book challenge and 3 challenges that are 12 books. I am using books in more than one challenge if they work, but not duplicating within the same challenge. I'm going through them fairly quickly since I got an early start.
Finished:
CHOSEN by Ted Dekker - for genres I don't normally read in 2 challenges. i actually enjoyed it
ROOT OF ALL EVIL by Ellery Adams & Elizabeth Lockard. I am really enjoying this series of cozy mysteries - for book that takes place during a holiday you don't celebrate (Halloween)
DANGEROUS MELODY by Dana Mentink - LIS - for book with a musical instrument on cover
FALLING BETWEEN THE PAGES by A M Heath - 1st person POV - good book but very different, a book within a book.
THE YEAR OF JUBILEE by Cindy Morgan - during racial unrest of 1960s - for historical event during my lifetime.
THE NANNY’S HOMECOMING by Linda Goodnight - LI - small town romance
HER HOCKEY SUPERSTAR FAKE FIANCE by Cami Checketts - winter sport. Now I know why I quit reading her books....
Current:
THE COWBOY WHO LOVED TEXAS by Liz Isaacson - Contemporary Western & independently published
Playing with a collage maker and decided to do my WOW books for 2024.
0 -
I like your collage, Connie. Looks like there are a lot of good ones on there.
I've been staying in bed and resting a lot (STILL fighting this cold from just after Christmas), but haven't thought to come here and log any of them. I did just finish EVERYTHING'S COMING UP JOSEY by Susan May Warren. I think I'll download the next one, CHILL OUT, JOSEY.0 -
Love the collage!0
-
I have just finished my first WOW book of 2025:
APPALACHIAN SONG by Michelle Shocklee. One of her book was a 2024 WOW book, so I shouldn't be surprised. I checked my master list and I have read 4 books by her and 5* was the lowest rating among them. I was putting this one off, because it just didn't strike me as compelling. I'm glad I pulled it up, though.0 -
Ooo, sounds interesting! I read the blurb and it's on my KU wishlist.
This is what I'm reading and what I've finished so far this month:
SHADOW ASSIGNMENT by Christy Barritt – cont susp – 4.5
THE LETTER by Edwina Kiernan – Victorian susp -
ISOBEL KUHN by Janet Benge – missionary bio -
OF STORMLARKS AND SILENCE by Constance Lopez – fantasy -
LEGACY OF ROSES by Melanie Cellier – fantasy -
THE SILENT NIGHT by Sarah Beran – Sleeping Beauty re-tell – 5+
KINGDOM OF DANCE by Deborah Grace White – 12 Dancing Princesses re-tell – 4.5

Finished:
THE SEASIDE HOMECOMING - Julie Klassen for a Regency challenge - good book. Someone that really enjoys regency would probably love this series. I have read all of them, so they must be pretty good.
THE PRODIGAL’S CHRISTMAS REUNION - Kathryn Springer (LI) for holiday prompts on a couple challenges
JOYS OF JUNIPER - Valerie Comer. For a book with a green spine. I had to get help with this one and tagged Valerie Comer for help with one of her books.
ESCAPE FROM THE BADLANDS - Dana Mentink (LIS). I don't think this fit into any challenges except for South Dakota on my state read through.
THE EXECUTIVE’S REDEMPTION -Rose Fresquez - for BIPOC author. This was pretty short, so not as well developed as her books usually are, but was pretty good.
Current:
DEFENDING MY FATHER’S HOUSE by Anne Perrault. WW2. Anne is originally from Germany and this is a fictionalized accounting of her grandfather's story. I know that this one does not really have a happily-ever-after and I have not been reading it often, or reading a lot of it at a time. I think I am about 25% through it. I'm just plodding though it when I can actually sit and concentrate on the book.
A TASTE FOR CRIME - Ellery Adams & Tina Radcliffe. I have enjoyed the books in this series that I have read, but I accidentally got this one out of order and I am just a little lost...the main character has changed professions and has a new boyfriend. I should go back and pick up the others before I finish this one, but since they aren't part of my reading challenges, I think I will just keep going with this one.
I will probably start another KU book this evening, and then listen to the cozy mystery when we go to bed.
0 -
I love your collage, Connie! Really makes your favorites stand out. You've got me eager to read Michelle Shocklee now.
I'm hoping to read many more books this year. I'm still reading shorter Christmas-themed books, but I did start WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS by Elizabeth Camden. Really enjoying it so far.0
