Daily Check In: Are You On Track Today?

When I joined the gym at Planet Fitness, I got the Black Membership and that allows me to bring one guest at each visit that I make. I have used that feature quite a number of times, so it was worth it for me.
Paula- it's so good to go through things and get rid of stuff you don't use or need anymore. The space is so much better to have. I am still in the process of sorting out the basement furnace room. I took everything out and there is just way too much stuff. I have put back the things that I know I wanted, but now I am trying to make decisions on all of the other things. It is overwhelming! But, I go down to the basement and tackle just one object everyday. It will take months to get done, but eventually I find a home for every item, even if it isn't in my home.
I am so thankful for a day off from work. I don't think I am feeling 100% yet. Close, but I get tired in the early evening and head to bed.0 -
Shari, I hope you got some extra rest today to help you progress and feel all better. So much sickness seems to be happening lately. John's friend Craig (the other Craig, not Craig my helper) now has Covid. He feels pretty sick and this isn't the 1st time he's had it over the years. I am sure we won't be seeing him here any time soon.
I had a surprisingly productive day today. I usually keep my Saturday to do list light, but I had some extra motivation today and exceeded my to do list. My motivation carried over to my eating too, resulting in a day when I had extra points. They won't carry over to next week, but I am pleased that I did so well.0 -
I had a good day yesterday and I had the joy of watching a young moose eat my young trees in the back yard forest. I will send a photo separately from my phone. I was fascinated for about an hour and then had to get on with my day.
We didn't rest too much yesterday. But it wasn't a physically demanding day. We are working on a step to our second level that wasn't installed (by us) properly. It is a two day process so we will finish it today. We need to wait for the glue to dry between fixing the stair and then putting the pretty board on. I can't even say how long it has been off! We stopped at our mall on our way to church and I found a new winter coat. I am so happy. I was looking last season and couldn't find one.0 -

Shari, I LOVE the photo of the baby moose! What a wonderful thing to have in your backyard. To see one of God's special creatures so up-close and personal is a true blessing. Many years ago traveled to western Maine and went on a moose watching expedition by bus. It is something John still remembers very well. Congrats on your new coat! Hope it keeps you warm! I am sure it is fashionable too.
I had an extremely restful day today. I think I needed it. I wasn't sick or anything, just not energetic. Good thing I really didn't have to do much of anything. I did manage to cook a healthy dinner of chicken, broccoli, and rice. It helped me stay on track because I was careful with the rice portion. I think I could eat broccoli every day and not get tired of it.0 -
Moose are pretty cool looking creatures. They are majestic, powerful and yet have a clumsy sort of way about them. I think that is due to their incredibly long legs. I will be watching out for them and hope to see them again this winter.
My day was pretty good. I did some reading, worked on a puzzle and ate leftovers. Quite a restful day. I got my steps in. That makes two days in a row. I had a couple of weeks of not being consistent.
Paula- I don't think I could eat broccoli everyday. How do you prepare it?0 -
I enjoy broccoli usually sprayed with a little olive oil and grilled on the grill pan in my toaster oven. It has a sweet taste to me that way. Sometimes I steam it, but then I add some bread crumbs and a little butter spray for John especially. I also like broccoli raw in a salad.
It was another productive day here. I made a demanding to do list and with help from John got it all completed. I didn't track my food today but am guessing I was at the top or slightly over my points. Tomorrow will be a much easier (and I hope healthier) day. I am still behind in my reading for my online book study for Tuesday evening. I plan to get caught up tomorrow, probably just in time for class. My regular to do list is light for tomorrow.0 -
Paula- you like broccoli in any form! I prefer it roasted, but I usually add cheese too. I don't eat broccoli very often as I get bloated when I do eat it. That's great you are getting so much done these days. I am slowly chipping away at my to do list.
I have gotten into a pretty good habit of tracking my food lately. I went over a bit yesterday and hope to be on target for today. I have to factor in an after super snack, that's what puts me over as I don't plan for one. I find it difficult to resist even though I am not hungry.

Hello! I’m glad you are both doing well! It also sounds like you are both accomplishing a great deal! I feel like I’ve fallen into a winter funk- get up, go to work, come home and go to bed as early as possible. I see my Dr in 2 weeks and will discuss this with her. Paula, my calorie and protein recommendations are from NOOM. Initially I only had the calorie range and recently got the protein level. Shari, I love your moose photo! Nothing new here- just trying to stay warm!! Have a great Wednesday!!0
-
DW, It will be interesting what your doc has to say about your "winter funk." It makes sense to me that you are going through this. I know that even without working in a real job, I get very tired on some evenings (year round, not just in in winter lol). From a non medical standpoint, I understand your need for rest after you keep such a busy schedule, but of course it is much better to have your doc know and consider your situation.
Shari, your cheese comment made me laugh because one of the standing jokes in our house is that John will eat and enjoy anything if it has cheese on it.
I did well today with my food choices. For supper I made a stir fry using ground turkey and broccoli (yes, broccoli again). I added rice too and unfortunately didn't measure my rice. I got caught up with my reading for class and enjoyed this most recent chapter. Since my to do list was light, it was easy to accomplish my easy tasks. Tomorrow is haircut day as long as I feel up to it. Because of the haircut appointment I am not making a to do list at all.

Thankfully the days are getting longer DW. Hopefully the daylight will help us all. What is your protein goal DW. Mine is quite high at 130 grams. That is while I am building muscle. In February I am going to move to a fat loss phase so I will lower my caloric intake as well as my protein requirements. I find it hard to eat enough protein, I have no issues going over my fat intake.
I am on the lookout for a new hairstylist and hope to get a haircut soon. I had someone that I knew so it always fun to catch up. She is retiring now. I don't want to stay at the salon as it isn't convenient for me, so I am going to try somewhere closer to home. I might have to try a few people to find one that does a good job for me. I hope your appt goes well Paula. I know it takes a lot for you to drive places, but it's so good that you are able to.0 -
Shari, Finding a hair stylist to meet our needs is often not easy, as I am sure you know. I think finding a stylist in a convenient location is a good move. Our trip to and from our haircuts went very well (about 20 miles away). I am always so impressed with what an amazing job she does, and I always feel so good after a fresh haircut. Traffic today was cooperative too which makes the drive more pleasant, and I had mostly daylight for the ride home. My walking and energy level was exceptionally good today too. John says it is a combination of my being well rested and his morning prayers for my day today. I believe the latter is definitely true. Usually after a haircut excursion I am exhausted, but today I felt so good that I came home and cooked a healthy supper too. I sure hope this trend continues!0
-
Paula-It sounds like the trip out for haircuts went better than expected and that is wonderful! I noticed the other day that there is a hair salon in the same parking lot as my gym. I think I will give it a try first. I am not quite sure when, but hopefully in a week or two.
I managed to get all of my steps yesterday, it felt like I walked a lot and I thought the count would have been higher. Hopefully I can reach my goal for today but it won't feel quite so exhausting. I went over in calories, but not by too much. Today I will do better!0 -
Congrats on getting in all of your steps Shari!
I had a very good day today, stayed well within my point range and no cravings or caving as I like to say. I slept a little later and recognize that the extra sleep is important to how my day goes. My planned activities got sidetracked by a few unexpected phone calls, which happens occasionally. So I will carry over some of my tasks to Friday. Buster will go to the groomer on Friday (they pick him up and bring him back to just out of kindness to us and are located only a few miles from our home). He will be all sparkling clean for Saturday evening when 2 our of friends (troop parents from John's Boy Scouts days) come for pizza. It has been over a year since we have seen each other as they have become very involved grandparents.0 -
Friday arrived and I am so glad to have the weekend here. That is super kind of the groomer to pick up Buster. He will have an exciting day today.
We had a crazy windy snow storm here yesterday. I decided not to go to the gym because the visibility on the highway looked terrible. I haven't looked outside yet (it's still so dark), but I am pretty sure that I am snowed in now. I do need to go to the office today, but I won't be able to until Jim clears our lane. I can't say that I am mad about that. I can start my day from home easily enough.
I didn't get all of my steps in yesterday even though I jumped on the treadmill. I really do need to move around more during my work day. If I don't, it's pretty impossible to get to my goal. I will make more of an effort today.0 -
I would be like you Shari not going out in such a storm. I am sure you are far more experienced and far braver than I am when it comes to that kind of difficult driving. I have never been a fan of winter driving and have always avoided it at all cost. We are currently under a winter storm watch that undoubtedly will turn to a winter storm warning tomorrow for 6 to 10 inches of snow expected during the day on Sunday. I feel for those folks who have no choice but to go out in such conditions. We are also expecting low temps of 2 degrees to below zero degrees in the nights early next week. This is unusually cold for us, even in January.
My eating was very good again today. I have been focusing on eating more fruits and veggies again which I think helped me with my nice loss last spring and seems to be keeping my sweet cravings to a minimum. Buster enjoyed his time at the "spa" and is all ready for our guests on Saturday evening. I did only part of my to do list today, so now I will have to really step up to prep for our friends coming tomorrow.0 -
That is a lot of snow Paula. Six inches is how much we have accumulated all winter so far. And that is decently chilly. Glad that Buster made it to the spa and back safely.
I am not sure what today will bring but we will wrap up our day serving coffee after church. We volunteer once/month. We enjoy it. Hopefully the rest of the day will involve getting chores looked after around here.

Hope you had a good Saturday Shari. It's great that you volunteer with the coffee at your church. Always important to give back.
We didn't get together with our friends today as they had a change in plans. I was fine with that as it took off the pressure I was feeling to clean/prep for their visit. My day flew by and I don't have a lot to show for it, though I did start gathering the paperwork to start my income taxes. That is a task I tend to avoid/procrastinate so I congratulated myself for starting relatively early. I made 2 turkey meatloaves today which helps my cooking for the next few days to be easier with them already on hand. I had forgotten how much John loves my turkey meatloaf.0 -
Serving coffee went well. I finally had a good day with the barista machine. It acts up frequently, but last night it performed well and it felt like I did too. We got home in time to enjoy some football and hockey games on TV.
I have never made Turkey meatloaf, I may have to give it a try! My family loves my regular meatloaf.
Today we will hang out at home, we will pop over to my parents to check on them. My dad is declining so I want to go over more often. He is almost 87 and has had 7 cancers and he is an alcoholic. He drinks every day. I think the calories from the beer keep him alive. I have no idea how his liver keeps on going, but I am truly thankful it is. I love my dad and wish he could beat his demons before passing.0 -
Shari, I continue to pray for both of your parents. They will remain on my prayer list.
We got about 6 inches of snow, and I think the snow is just about over. It is very cold, and the snow that was supposed to be light and fluffy turned out to be heavy and wet. We are unable to get Buster outside because our ramp and all the areas surrounding it are slippery/frozen/snow covered/and most of all dangerous. Until our new snow removal service clears the areas we just have to keep Buster inside and clean up whatever happens. Buster is VERY housetrained and doesn't like to "go" inside ever. One time he didn't go for 24 hours when we had a snowstorm. It's been less than 12 hours since he was outside in the late morning so I am optimistic that things will be ok one way or another.
I didn't do as well today as some other days. I logged my food and exceeded my point range by just a few points. I expect to be much better tomorrow in fighting off some cravings.0 -
Here is a quick answer to prayer. When we went to visit my parents, my mom was feeling really good and my dad decided to stop drinking. If he can pull this off, it will be wonderful!
Six inches of snow is a lot of snow. Not easy for a little dog to go outdoors. Buster is a trooper.
I didn't track yesterday, but I am pretty sure I did okay. I had a craving for potato chips, but I managed to resist the temptation. DH has a bag in the house from when he had a friend over to watch football earlier this month. Looks like cravings are part of life! Some days we do better beat it than others.0 -
Hello! It sounds like we are all dealing with winter weather in one form or another. We have a small snow cover on the ground but are in a dangerous deep freeze with wind chills well below 0. It will be worse tomorrow and Wednesday and many schools have already canceled both days. I will be driving my route and providing day services but we will not be doing any outings.
Shari, my protein range from NOOM is 90-116. I have no idea where they came up with 116 😂 That was good news about your parents! I will also keep them in my prayers. Paula, I hope that Buster is adjusting to the potty situation and/or that your snow service has cleared your snow! That was a lot of snow that you had!!
I will close for now. The football game is on and I’m half watching it with DH and DD. Stay warm and safe!!0 -
DW, Congrats to your Buckeyes! John watched the game. I watched with him then fell asleep for a while. Happy for the win.
Shari, Such a wonderful step your dad has taken. And a bonus that your mom was feeling really good too. Maybe she feels better partly as a result of your dad's efforts. Prayers continue.
Buster finally had a successful expedition outside after "holding it" for well over 24 hours. Our snow guy (Billy) came after our neighbor Blaine had already done some plowing and shoveling. Billy did more work to accommodate Buster's needs. Our cold weather continues but no more snow is predicted until next week. The combination of cold weather and winds produce a wind chill of 12 degrees below zero.
I didn't track again today and veered away from my plan with extra snacks. Ugh. I still haven't had more than 3 solid consecutive days. Starting a new streak tomorrow!

I think we are getting a break from the cold weather. It was supposed to have warmed up overnight. I will be super thankful if that is in fact the case. Maybe we will be able to get out and have a cross country ski on the property again. I think our tracks have disappeared so we may have to start from scratch. Stay warm you too!
I managed to stick to my calories, although I did not stick to my exact plan. I wasn't feeling well in the morning. I was getting a headache and feeling nauseous. Thankfully a migraine pill did the trick by lunch time. So far so good this morning.0 -
Our brutally cold weather (Arctic blast or something like they call it) continues. Our lows will be subzero tonight, not even counting the wind chill factor. John and Buster have been doing well. Buster seems to have accepted the need to venture out in the cold to do what he needs to do. John is wearing 2 coats and all bundled up for their excursions.
I had a very good day today... so day 1 of my streak. I am motivated again and aim to keep the string of good days going. It sometimes mystifies me what I am so much hungrier some days than on other days. I realize that I need to eat on those hungry days but must make healthier wiser choices....which I know I can do but often don't do. My mind set has to be working for my own well being.0 -
We had crazy winds all day yesterday and into the night. I had trouble falling asleep with the noises that the wind brought. Eventually I got some rest, but it wasn't the best. I am not sure what our temps are, I need to check. I didn't go outside at all yesterday. Poor Buster- let's hope that the weather relents soon.
Great to be in a place to start a streak Paula! You can add a second day to it. I didn't finish tracking my day yesterday but I think I was under calories. I was definitely under in protein. Not as happy about that! I head to the office today. That is always a challenge for me. I have to stick to my plan and the food I take.0 -
Shari, I hope you rest better tonight. I understand how those sounds could keep you from falling asleep quickly and soundly. Our temps are still miserable. We reached 8 degrees below zero last night. I think tonight's low will be around 3 above zero. Our daily highs were in the teens today and possibly in the 20s tomorrow. Woo Hoo!!!
I tracked every bite today, using 2 of my "weekly" extra points which for me isn't too bad. So streak day 2. I was kind of hungry mid afternoon which seems to be my problem time now. I had some blueberries (0 points) that satisfied me for the most part but somehow I still managed to need those extra points as the day went on.0 -
Those are pretty chilly temps Paula. Not so bad if in celsius, but then that would a very big range from winter temps to spring. Congrats on your second day into a streak. Go for a third!
I had a very poor eating day so I need to pull up my bootstraps today. I also went to bed late and just couldn't get up when my alarm went off. I will have to start work a bit later, and stay a bit later too.0 -
Shari, I hope you had a successful day time-wise with work and with your eating plan. My day was the kind of day I aim for all the time. I was UNDER my points for the day and felt satisfied all day long....no cravings, no visits from the hunger monster. I have been trying to focus on zero point foods and today paid off! It's good too because on Saturday our friends are supposed to come for pizza (rescheduled from this past Saturday) and having a few extra points on hand will be helpful. Tonight is expected to be the last time for our single digit temperatures at least for the near future. We could actually see high temps in the 20s or low 30s. Woo Hoo!0
-
My day was quite full yesterday. I did much better with my eating. I had a lot of work to look after and have some leftover tasks to work on today. It appears to be windy again today, I am not a fan of wind at all. It just makes the temperature feel that much colder.
We are going out for dinner with some friends and then playing games. It should be a very enjoyable Friday night.
My progress at the gym has slowed down. I think that makes sense. I can't imagine being able to continue to lift heavier and heavier each time. I will work on lifting the same weight and add reps until I feel confident that I can move the weight up. It is a mind adjustment for me, I have to remind myself that I am making progress, not being a failure.0
