What's your plan?
So I have approached my goal of weight loss and control of my food intake as I would approach a problem at work- using project management. Nerdy? Oh yeah! But looking back at every time I have made an effort to lose weight I was never quite successful, whereas I kick major a** at completion of projects at work... Giving it…
Join!
I did a search for a pre-diabetes group and came up empty, so I decided to make one! If you find you are in this particular boat and want to have a group to support you, please feel free to join!
Curious minds want to know....
What has your experience been with prescriptions to help regulate your blood sugar? Any advice? (I recently began taking Metformin- and it is not fun and I am interested to know the experience of others)

Newly diagnosed
Hi. I’ve recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I’m at 6.4 so pretty much reaching that number that will tip me into the diabetic range😬. Does anyone in this group set macros on MFP and if so, what do you allow yourself for carbs? I’ve gained over 25 lbs these part 2 years. (Never had a weight concern before). I think…
Is it possible for the "dawn effect" to raise blood sugar by 50 points?
It was 98 last night at bedtime, and 148 when I got up this morning.
How much sugar per day?
I have completely cut out any added sugar from my diet and it sucks. I have a MAJOR sweet tooth... Any good recipe's for low or no sugar desserts?
C25K
Hey all! It's been a while... I wanted to recommend this awesome free app I am hooked on - C25K (couch to 5k). I am NOT a runner by nature and this training app is perfect for getting those like me to a point where jogging a 5k without breaks is totally doable. Give it a try! If you have any other fitness, challenge,…
Macro Targets - did you customize?
The default is 50% carbs, 20% protein, 30% fat. With the paid app you can change those. Has anyone discussed this with a nutritionist or medical provider? Are those the right ratios for pre-diabetic people?
Traveling & Tracking
I am currently on a 2 week trip away from home, and I have found it pretty easy to keep tracking my food. The barcode scanner feature is amazing since I am not all that good at converting grams to anything. So far, I have been able to stay within my goals, but I am giving myself leeway while on vacation to go 10% above my…
Eating out
Sometimes you just cannot choke down another home made meal and you want to go to your favorite diner, cafe or eatery. My new approach to the "no way in hell am I cooking" frame of mind - half orders. I still get what I want, but I have a reasonable portion. Miracle of miracles, you likely can fit a half order of most…
Sept 25th --> Oct. 1 What's your goals for this week?
What's your goals for this week? How did last week go? I just want to stay on track with my fitness and eating and not make excuses for eating really craptastic foods. I'm using the Daily Burn app, but I am not actually strong enough to do the full 30 minutes without making myself sick, so I'm doing 15-20 minutes and…
The Recipe Thread
Hello! I thought I might make a recipe thread where we could post links or post recipes we have or ideas. I tried out a recipe for butternut squash turkey chili this week from All Recipes - expected it to be pretty awful but was surprised when it turned out. The whole family liked it which is pretty odd, they're so…
Diabetes and Eye Health
Today I went to my annual eye exam and had an enlightening conversation with my doctor about what high A1C levels do to the eye. Apparently, it impacts vascular health and can result in the microcapilaries in the eye leaking out red blood cells. If you don't wear glasses, or don't do an annual check up, BUT have struggled…
