Welcome. Introduce yourself here.
I am in my 60’s. This is my second time around with weight loss. I have a balance disorder that doctors have been dismissing as me being fat…. Me being lazy. .. Me being a hypochondriac… etc. Yes. I am fat. But I have never been lazy. 😇 I was diagnosed with diabetes I early February, and that has put everything in fast…
Challenge Club! June 2024
Other groups have a challenge. Usually monthly. There’s teams sometimes. And other stuff to keep it interesting. So I think it’s time to start one just for us. Set your own challenge and check in here either daily or weekly. Each month I will start a new discussion for that month. I have set myself a goal of 3 miles daily…

“Sedentary” assumes 3000 steps!
Sedentary assumes 3000 steps per day. Which is about 150 calories. Enough to make a difference if your disability prevents you from walking that much. Set your calorie limit low (but not below 1200!) and then and measure everything so you’re not accidentally eating more than you think. One of the best tips I have seen is…
Doctor advice is always more important than internet forum strangers
Disability makes weight loss and exercise tricky. No two people are alike. No two disabilities are alike. ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE BEGINNING AN EXERCISE OR WEIGHT LOSS REGIMEN ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR REGISTERED DIETITIAN BEFORE DOING ANY SUDDEN OR EXTREME DIET CHANGES
The Difficult Day
"Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." "That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult…

Handy tools to make life easier
A place to discuss things we have found that are helpful for making life easier as a disabled person. First up: Microwave egg bite maker. Tonight my partner napped late and just wasn’t ready to make dinner. He usually has that job. So I decided rather than pester him I’d check the fridge for what might be available for a…
New to the Forum
I have CRPS, CFS and recently fell and broke my left femur just above the knee! (well by recent I mean the end of April), I am trying to get back to using my crutches but panic attacks are stopping me (so still using a walking frame for the few steps I manage around the house), I really need to lose weight to take pressure…

Good news: I had a dr appointment the other day and she specifically said my balance issue is “not in your head” Which was kitten GREAT TO HEAR And I have to go to physical therapy. Again. And I got a referral to the balance disorder clinic in The Big City. Which is going to be a pain to get to. But I’ll deal.

Does anyone still use this group?
I'm always looking for new friends to add on MFP who "get it" with the whole chronic illness thing! I am a daily user, working on fitness and strength training while dealing with Lupus. Female in my 30s. Please do feel free to add me as a friend if you post regularly and are supportive and kind!
10000 steps is not based on any science
Just an FYI for folks who find walking or running difficult. The entire 10,000 steps thing is just an old marketing tactic for a Japanese pedometer from 1965. https://www.popsci.com/story/health/10000-steps-evidence-study/
Experience with AAA and outcomes?
Anyone had or care for someone who had surgery for an ascending aortic aneurysm (AAA)? Open chest or endovascular? Recovery? Quality of life? How did you decide it was time for the surgery? Any diet or exercises to help? I don't know anyone who's been down this path and I'm very concerned about my longevity and quality of…
