  • OK, I LOL'd at this one: "but I confused an all you can eat buffet as if I needed to try and eat it all". Yes, I believe we've all probably been there, done that a time or 2 :) Glad to hear you've been enjoying life, @ftrobbie !! I ran 4 miles this morning. My first half marathon is just a little over 2 weeks away!!!! This…
  • Yep. Just came on here to see if others are having the same problem.
  • Yeah, I live in Texas and I only started running in June, so cold weather is a problem I haven't had. It was really windy and stormy last weekend due to Hurricane Patricia, but I just stayed indoors ;) Where are you @ftrobbie? Check in...have been hoping you're doing ok!!!
  • Good work @moyer566 !! I didn't run this morning...this was supposed to be a rest day with a planned 10K event tomorrow. However, given the issues with the weather in/around Houston, it now seems likely that my 10K will be cancelled due to anticipated flooding. So maybe I'll pop out for a quick run in the rain...or maybe…
  • I overslept this morning and didn't do my scheduled 5 mile run, soooo I guess I know what I'm doing after work! I signed up for the Rock 'N' Roll Marathon in New Orleans on 2/28. I actually signed up for the half marathon, not the full, since I won't be done with my marathon training until mid-March. I'll be arriving in…
  • I sent a request to join the 50 States Marathon Club's Facebook group....looks like they have a lot of active members so it will be a good resource for race suggestions. I can't submit an actual club application until I've done a marathon in at least 10 different states, so I guess that will be a couple years down the road…
  • @Just_Ceci - I didn't know you lived in Texas! Where abouts did you live? And thanks for the support everyone! I've been signing up for a lot of races, and I think my Facebook friends are getting tired of hearing about it!! LOL!!!! My 40th birthday is coming up in Jan 2016 and I think I'm going to try a new challenge: Run…
  • I ran the 2nd of 3 races in the Texas Bridge Series today - The Toughest 10K Galveston (http://www.toughest10kgalveston.org). It went soooo well!! I actually PR'd at 1:01:28!!! So I'm getting closer to a sub-60 min 10K. The weather was cool (for our part of Texas), the bridge wasn't as horribly steep, and the wind wasn't…
  • I ran the Space City 10 Miler today. Despite my 8 mile run last weekend, I was still a bit nervous that I would gas out (or worse) on this one. Thankfully, it went much better than I expected!! Official times aren't posted but my Runkeeper says I ran 10.13 miles in 1:46:39 with an average pace of 10:32 min/mi. Looking at…
  • Awesome! Thank you!!
  • @Just_Ceci - what are you using for your speed training? Is there an app or something you recommend? I seem to do better with apps that tell me what to do :)
  • I made it through my 8 mile run! It was actually a pretty smooth run, but it did take me 87 minutes. Whatever though...I live to run another day. And I think I should be fine next weekend on the 10 miler as long as I don't try anything crazy (like pushing harder than my 10-11 minute pace). Happy weekend to all!!!
  • I'm going to try a slow and easy 8 miles for my long this weekend and see how it feels. Nice knowing you if I don't make it back...LOL!
  • My training plan has me running 3 weekdays (3-4 miles each of those days) plus a long run on the weekend (6.5 miles being the longest I've gone). So I guess I'm good then? I'm not harboring any illusions of it being pretty...."wounded animal" is more descriptive of my long distance running at present :)
  • Nothing exciting happening here....still doing my half marathon trainer and lifting weights. I don't have an organized run this weekend, but on 10/11 I have a 10 miler. This could be a problem given the longest I've run in one stretch so far is only 6.5 miles. I'm going to try for an 8 mile run this weekend on my long run…
  • Amazing work, @ftrobbie ! Thank you for sharing your experience...such an inspiration!
  • I ran in my 3rd official 10K this morning....thankfully, there was no bridge this time :) The course was nice and flat on the campus of the University of Houston. The weather was amazing...cool with a light rain (mostly a mist); I honestly couldn't have asked for a better day/course. My time was 1:04:03...I'm pretty…
  • Strong work on the run, @Just_Ceci ! I saw an armadillo on my run this morning. I kind of snuck up behind it (not on purpose, lol), but it just stared at me as I ran right past it. I heard somewhere that they jump straight up when startled, but apparently this one had nerves of steel. I have another 10K on Sunday;…
  • Came down with an upper respiratory infection the last day of my San Diego trip and have spent the last week trying to recover; thus, I only ran once this week. And then comes today....today I took part in the most difficult running event I've ever done. It was the first in the Texas Bridge Series...basically running up…
  • Hi everyone! I'm still plugging away on my HM trainer. I'm in San Diego this week for a conference, and I'm very much enjoying having my morning runs along the marina. My pace is pretty consistently staying in the 10 min/mile range; I wonder if I'll be able to sustain that throughout the entire HM (current runs are 4-6…
  • Strong work everyone! Nothing too exciting happening here. I did W2/D6 of my Hal Higdon HM trainer this morning - a 5 mile run. My Runkeeper is telling me that it was my fastest run to date in the 4-6 mile range; however, I am more focused on my stomach, which is telling me that all the cocktails at my friend's birthday…
  • I did not like the Zen Labs Half Trainer at all; I really regret buying it. It has you do these odd walk/run intervals for the entire 13 weeks of the program. The final week is run 4 min, then walk 1 min repeated 26 times. Talk about interrupting your flow! I'm using Hal Higdon's Novice 2 Half Marathon Trainer and find it…
  • Sorry in advance for posting so much this week, but I just wanted to tell you guys that I got my first sub-30 min 5K this morning (29:18, to be exact). Today is actually my 3 month runniversary (started C25K in earnest on 6/1), so what a fitting gift!!! OK, I'll pipe down for awhile now :)
  • @moyer566 - You should start using Runkeeper or something similar to track it; are you just going by steps/strides right now? Runkeeper and the like will give you the splits/times for each of your miles. It feels great when you can see your time improving/distance increasing! Plus it measures elevation :) I'm pretty sure…
  • @moyer566 - Strong work! You must be very fast...that's 7.22 miles in less than 60 minutes of running! What does your GPS tracker say your miles are taking? Maybe 8 minutes? That's really good...I'm lucky to maintain a 10-11 minute mile on my 10K runs.
  • Hey - my chip time came back at 01:04:25...so a whole minute better than I thought!
  • Happy Sunday everyone! Thanks for asking about my run, @maggiekat7. Yesterday evening I had my first official 10K...another "urban trail run" on an area golf course. This course was kinder than the first one - less ditches and really rough areas, more running on greens/fairways. I came out a bit fast but found my pace…
  • Awesome news, @ftrobbie!!!! I've been hard at work on week one of my HM trainer (Hal Higdon's Novice 2). I've had three 3 mile runs this week so far and they've been going great! Coming off of my 6 mile/day runs from the 10K trainer, I've been pleasantly surprised to see my 5K times getting progressively faster. Today I…
  • I'm planning on sticking around here, and hope everyone else does as well :)
