  • I'm signed up for R'n'R NOLA too, although just the HM....I want to party a bit while I'm there :)
  • @taeliesyn - I hear you. I broke down and made an appointment with a physician tomorrow. Here in Texas, we can't see a physio/physical therapist unless an MD refers us. Once I get a prescription, I can see what the physio says. I am so annoyed with this knee! I'm also annoyed with Runkeeper. It is buggy and drains the…
  • Ran my first half marathon trail run today...it was TOUGH!!! Notice I said "ran" and not "raced"? Yeah, I gave up on any PRs after I saw the terrain - rocks and mud! The uneven ground actually made my knee sore again by mile 4. I walked A LOT on this one (although that seemed to be the norm for the other halfers I…
  • Thank you for validating my sloth-like behavior this week :) If anyone needs me, I'll be in front of my TV, eating alllllllll the foooood!!!!!!!
  • I PR'd my 10K today!!!! At the 5K check, my time was 29:13; my finish time was 1:00:36! Yay!! My knee was pretty quiet the whole time...not sure if it's the compression sleeve or the new shoes, but I'm loving it!!
  • Well, I've a 10K tomorrow! I'm sure you'll all be joining me in spirit :) Welcome @faithan84 !!!
  • Three miles this morning and no pain :) I took it easy speed-wise and I think that helped. Rest day tomorrow, race day on Saturday (another 10K).
  • @MeanderingMammal - what kind of work do you do?
  • Thanks for the thoughtful input gents! I still balk at the notion of a doctor visit (I am one, and we are terrible patients), but I did "consult" with the lead trainer at my gym and the old hippie runners that own the sports store :) Honestly, based on position, I think it's hamstring tendonitis. I am going to lay off the…
  • I ran 9 miles for my long run yesterday, and that damn knee pain started in again around mile 7. Same as during my half - a dull ache on the lateral aspect of my left knee. I can run through it, the problem is more that it tightens up after the run. I'm icing it for several hours post-run; I guess I'll keep an eye on it…
  • Good work! What distance did you run?
  • Gobble, gobble...ran the Turkey Trot 10K today! So many people and ugly course, but got it done!! Now a nap before the big dinner :) Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans, happy Thursday to our international pals!!
  • I've been resting since my HM on Sunday, so today was my first workout. I ran 1.5 miles on the treadmill, then lifted weights (I'm doing the Strong Curves program). I did 90 lbs on my barbell squats (3 sets of 15 reps each) and no knee pain, so I think I'm recovered!! Tomorrow is a rest day, then I'm going to start running…
  • Your fat went numb? Yikes! I don't know...I really don't have cold weather here...also I am zero percent body fat :) LOL!! I got a giant blood blister on the shoe-facing side of my big toe during my half marathon. Anyone struggle with that? What I'm reading on the internet says either lubricate your feet or wear 2 pairs of…
  • I did it - my first half marathon!!! It was another bridge race, and both climbs on the bridge (over and back) were the most physically challenging. However, the worst of it was actually miles 11-13.1 as they were the most mentally tough - that's when the "just quit and walk" voice really took over (but it didn't win).…
  • Good run, @moyer566!! I am super-duper nervous/freaking out about tomorrow. Some sleepy time herbal tea and am now forcing myself into bed with the goal of getting 8 hours of zzzz's. Gear is all out and ready to go, training is done, now the rest is mental :) See you all on the other side!!!
  • Good call, @taeliesyn! It is a buff (or buff-like knock off)!!! Thanks @samra338!
  • Went to packet pickup this evening for my first ever HM that is coming up on Sunday....lots of stuff in there!! Shirt, hat, weird scarf thing, gloves it will never get cold enough for me to wear, cooler bag w/ice pack, plastic blinky lights that maybe go on your shoelaces (?) At the finish line I think we also might get…
  • ^ What a nifty resource!!
  • @taeliesyn - Good job! How long is a "lap" on your race? It seems like it would get really boring running around in a circle for 6 hours....I hope it's at least a big circle :) I can't imagine running that long and not having my stomach turn!! I've used the treadmill to run a mile or 2 as a warm-up at the gym before I lift…
  • Welcome @kimadm4 :) There are other cold weather runners here so you should find some good advice! Tomorrow is a federal holiday (Veteran's Day), so I am looking forward to my first real day off work in the last 16 days!!! Happy running to all!!
  • Ran 3 miles this morning. I intended for it to be an easy run, but I was so annoyed with various people/situations in my life that I took it out on the pavement and ended up averaging 9:30 minutes/mile pace (Runkeeper says that is 48 seconds faster than my "usual"). Tomorrow I'm supposed to run 2 miles at the same pace I…
  • The time limit is 4 hours though...you could walk most of it and still make that time! http://www.laportebythebayhalfmarathon.org/index.html But it is a little pricey to sign up the week of....
  • Texas Bridge series final race is Sunday - LaPorte Half Marathon!!! You should run it with me!!!
  • Holy schnikes - look at all these runners and their posts!! I'm going to have to step up my game!! Just kidding, I slept in (again).
  • That is interesting! Do formulas like Harris Benedict have your maintenance as significantly higher based on your physical activity? Maybe we are both special snowflakes :)
  • I guess I should have mentioned that my weight has been holding steady for about 10 weeks. I've kind of lost hope for a whoosh at this point. I seem to be maintaining at 1650/day, when all calculations have my maintenance at 2000-2100. I don't want to freak out and make a drastic cut because I don't want my running to…
  • Ran 3 miles yesterday and this morning...tomorrow I have a 5 mile run. My rest day is Saturday, then my Hal Higdon HM trainer has me doing my final long run on Sunday...12 miles. After that is a week-long taper, then my HM on 11/15. Did anyone else experience a stall in their weight loss during long distance running…
  • I ran in the Texas10 Katy 10 miler yesterday! It was a really rainy day but the wind wasn't too bad. I was soaked and freezing cold by the time I got done, but overall it was a smooth race. Flat course, but a bit boring due to the fact that it was a 5 mile loop that we repeated twice. I had some right shin pain for the…
