  • No NSV today (though I've been maintaining for a while, preparing to launch into another round of weight loss), but just wanted to say that seeing everyone's small victories and progress is really uplifting! It's just what I needed to see this morning. We've got this. Sisters (and brothers) are doing it for themselves!
  • That's really interesting to hear. I went to the gym this morning a few hours after taking the morning dose and worked out, but it did feel a little...meh. I didn't quite 'get there.' I guess my main concern is the weight loss as I'm not training for anything specific, just to be healthy, but it's good to know and be aware…
  • Thank you everybody!!! That is really helpful! I'll keep on eye on how my body responds to it.
  • Very few, but beta blockers might be in that select group. Again, looking to hear from someone who has actually taken this medication. I've been reading about it, but would like a personal testimonial or two. http://www.womenfitness.net/beta_blockers_dampening_the_body_ability_to_burn_fat.htm…
  • Thanks. Some medications do affect the metabolism and heart rate (and can affect being able to workout at a certain level). I would like to hear from others with some experience, though.
  • I was not prepared for the hormonal roller coaster ride. Seriously. It's like being a teenager again. I've spoken to my doctor about it a few times, to no avail. Unfortunately, feeling slightly over-emotional a lot of the time has made it difficult to enjoy having lost weight, and has had a dampening effect on my quality…
  • Yes and no. You could lose weight eating nothing but donuts and fritos, so long as you ate fewer total calories. You would ultimately get skinnier. However, you'd feel like crap and the damage you would do to your body with a terrible diet would counter many, if not all, of the benefits of weight loss. I don't 'eat clean,'…
  • That is actually very informative, and it is good to learn more about the thyroid/weight relationship. Thanks!
  • Get safely under 170 lbs by mid May, when I'll be going to Hawaii for vacation. I've weighed in at just a smidge under 170, but hope to be a few pounds down so I feel firmly under 170 in time for kahlua pork and Pina coladas on the beach (so excited for vacation!!!!).
  • 1580. I dont count exercise calories and still have about 30 lbs left to lose (down 50 so far). I hover around this number, but it is much easier to sustain and still lose weight than 1200 a day. I just lose weight more slowly. The upshot of that is that once i hit goal weight i will not have to drastically change my…
  • I am not dieting, I am changing my life. I decided on that early on, and i decid that every single day. That choice is key. This is part of how i am building a healthy life, so i am really focusing more on changing my habits and tailoring my way of life to fit my needs and priorities. I also keep things manageable; I do…
  • Why did i gain? I developed early, and was an overly sensitive kid that got picked on a lot. In the 5th grade my chest ballooned out to a b-cup from nothing, and suddenly one of the nicknames being thrown at me (other than 'hey ugly') was 'Dolly Parton.' Now, i happen to love Dolly Parton, but at the age of 11 i was not…
  • Ditto. Ive still got a ways to go until i am at goal, but i am also down 50 lbs, and still feel large. My body is still hard to dress. I had hoped that would improve, and it may still. I do think there is a lot of mental baggage that needs to be discarded along with the weight (that mental baggage helped make me fat in the…
  • Yesterday at the gym I caught myself (unfortunately) falling into that worst of bad habits; comparing my body to other people's bodies around me. I was feeling plump (I've lost 50 lbs, but have another 30, maybe 40, to go until I'm where I want to be), I was feeling short, round, half invisible, plain Jane, out of place,…
  • I ran a 5k yesterday with no walking breaks. I did run very slowly at first (there with a friend who was walking at a 14 or 15 min mile pace) but then picked it up and ran the second half at about a 10 min mile pace. A first for me! I'm hoping that the next one I do (whenever that is) I can complete the whole distance at a…
  • Yeah. It's an adjustment, for sure. I struggle with a little bit of resentment over the sudden interest and attention, much of it from men that wouldn't have given me the time of day a year ago. I am every bit as self contained and reserved as I was a year ago, but almost inexplicably more visible. Except that there is an…
  • My fingers are suddenly so skinny! This delights me! Not sure why, but it does.
  • I knew when I went to a dinner party and a friend drunkenly blurted out "You're so tiny!" out of nowhere. I'm not 'tiny,' but I'm definitely smaller than I used to be. Thank the gods.
  • Dude, I hear ya. Meeeee toooooo.
  • That was wonderful. I passed that little milestone recently, and celebrated with a new pair of jeans and a trip to the art museum. Just overweight, for the first time in about 10 years!
  • I've lost about 349 sticks of dynamite- so close to 350! Ha! Boy, you could really wreak havoc with 350 sticks of dynamite. It's almost obscene. Almost.
  • There sure is! It's a real bummer. Also, I love salt, and you can't taste most of the salt hidden in food, so I wind up salting food that's already salty. This is why fresh veggies are my new best friend...
  • That has been my approach, for the most part, and I have lost just a smidge under 50 lbs in the last 9 months. I average about 1500-1600 calories a day, work in exercise most days, and I'm still losing pretty consistently. I hope to hit my goal by September. We shall see. That said, I have started to gravitate toward…
  • A few things (good and bad): 1. Moving around is just easier. Everything physical that you do in a day... it's all easier than it used to be. 2. While it's nice to try on smaller pant sizes, you are going to have many of the same 'dressing room problems' that you used to. I have short, stumpy legs. Always have, always…
  • Today I went to yoga (also ran/walked about 4 miles). The instructor was new, and ran through the vinyasa sequence quite quickly. I kept up, hit every pose, and even pulled off the dancer and the wheel (two poses I have been unable to do for several years due to my size). Today I did both, and didn't feel uncomfortable or…
  • I hit my last mini goal- getting out of 'obese' and into 'overweight'- and now I'm aiming for the -50 lb mark. Just about 2.5 to go. Then of course another 30 after that, but hey! 50 down would be quite an accomplishment!
  • 2 months of personal training and I'm down 9 inches all over.
  • Pull ups! Me, too! I've never been able to do one. It would be a great accomplishment.
  • That is good to know. Thanks!
