Goal setting for fun and being accountable
Just putting this out there to hold myself accountable. I have three goals for the upcoming year: 1. SV goal: To hit GW by my birthday in mid September. I have about another 40 pounds to go, and do plan on scaling back to a .5 lb weekly loss for the last 20. I'm not sure it's realistic, but I've lost just over 40 lbs in…

Propranalol (please respond only if you have or are taking this med)
I was recently prescribed propranolol to help with migraines and anxiety. Does anyone else take this, or a similar beta blocker, and could you tell me what effect it has had on your weight (if any)? The internet has some mixed answers to this question, but as I am still losing weight I don't want to sabotage my efforts by…

The never ending plateau and low bmr
Hey there- So I'm in month three of a plateau. My weight loss was chugging along at a nice pace up until that point (I've been at this over a year), but my metabolism has bottomed out (yes, I do strength training) with a bmr under 1200 (got it professionally tested). This means that on days where I don't burn a ton of…

RMR of 1200 and thyroid test
I had my RMR (resting metabolic rate) tested recently, and it is quite a bit lower than the estimates for my age, height, sex and weight. I have been losing weight for over a year, though in the last two or three months it has slowed down to maybe a pound a month. I also had my thyroid tested, and it is hovering around 4.2…

NSVs? What about NSGs?
I love reading about other people's non scale victories. I would also love to read about some non scale goals! Mine are: 1. Doing a pull up 2. Running a 10K without walking 3. Going sky diving They're kind of silly, I know, but these are three things I've never done that my size previously prevented me from even…

Maintaining to lose
Hey MFPers! Question- I am planning on transitioning temporarily into maintenance to give my body a rest and jump-start my metabolism. A) will this work? B) if so, how long should I maintain before returning to losing? A week? A month? C) have you ever done this, and what other things do I need to consider?

Seven months strong, but now a plateau. Time for a break?
In the past seven months, I've generally rocked the weight loss (43 lbs down so far), but I plateaued about six weeks ago (beginning of the holiday season, yeah I know). That has been tougher to navigate than I thought it would be. I'm about 35 lbs away from my goal weight now, and for some reason looking at that second…

Men's 'after' pictures: why so serious?
Just a random observation, but I do wonder... in men's before and after pictures, they're usually smiling before, and almost never smiling after. Why is that? Where did the smile go? Bring it back!

Dealing with some old ED Issues (please don't respond without reading full post)
*If you have never had an eating disorder and are not a licensed nutritionist but think you know what is best for me and feel the need to "school" me in the comments, don't waste your time. Please just move along to some other thread* The first 4 months of my weight loss trek went relatively smoothly, but since the cold…

National Cat Day: a great burn!
On this most important of days, don't forget that you can use the time spent in obsequious groveling in front of your furry feline house tyrant to really up the burn! Bow deep, and let your core in on the action. Pet harder, and make sure to hoist It's Majesty into the air between pets. This not only demonstrates your…

Zumba calorie burn
So I did an hour of Zumba this morning, and mfp wants to log the hour as well over 700 calories burned. I only logged about half an hour, as that seems like way more burn than you actually get. I mean, I go all in in fitness clsses, but I have a hard time believing that Zumba burns buco calories. What do you think?

TMI kinda question...
Does anyone out there have and use a squatty potty? If so, what is your impression of it? Does it upgrade your bathroom game?

Big goals vs. Little goals
Which do you use? One, both, neither? What kind of goal-setting works for you, and why? I am usually a 'big goal' person, but am thinking of working some little interim goals into my process. What say you?

Almost halfway there
So I've been on here for about 4.5 months and have lost 34 lbs. So far, so good. I have hit a few bumps along the way, but overall it's gone much more smoothly than I anticipated. I avoided losing weight for a long time due to the perceived amount of effort, but that has not been the case. I just have to be more mindful of…

Does MFP really overestimate exercise calories burned?
Just wondering, as I have seen this mentioned in the threads. Has anyone reading actually put this to the test against another tracker? I would rather hear from those who have in fact put it to the test, or see a link to a reliable study, than hear people repeating what they have also read from other people in the forums…

Weight loss slowing down
Hey fellow losers! So, it's very easy to lose weight at the beginning (at least it was for me). At what point in your own weight loss journey did you see it start to slow down (if at all)? I'm going into my fourth month of losing and am 30 pounds down. At the beginning the weight just disappeared. It was pretty amazing! I…

So, what if you're losing weight, but not much in the way of inches?
I've lost almost 30 pounds so far (with about 40 to go), but despite cardio and strength training (albeit not tons of strength training), I've only lost about 1.5 inches off my waist. It seems like others are losing inches faster than weight (muscle building, I guess)- does anyone else, like myself, have the opposite…

Grieving, weight loss, and staying the course
So, very recently my very beloved cat died of cancer. She had been on the decline for a while, but her death was still very painful (I was closer to her than I am to most of my family). I'm wondering how others have dealt with grief and sadness during their weight loss journeys. Admittedly, today I definitely overate. Food…

So what the heck is clean eating, anyway?
Is it just generically healthy? Is it all sustainable organic? I generally eat what I consider to be healthy food (veggies, good quality meats and cheeses, whole grains, very limited sweets on occasion)- am I already 'eating clean,' or what?
