  • My goals for August are developing, shall I say. I have been able to walk a bit more during my beach vacation. But, the rain in SW Florida has dampened my desire
  • Thank you for the welcome Katla49 and exermom. Katla49, thank you for sharing that lovely Tibetan proverb! I'm printing that one and posting it on my fridge. Further to my short introduction yesterday...I live in Florida near Ocala. I'm married. We have three adult children (plus one lovely daughter in law). Our son and…
  • Thank you for this thread. I've tried the forums off and on over the time I've been on MFP. However, I'm not consistent about checking them regularly. My name is Susan, I'm 52. I've been making changes over the past two years which have resulted in 40 pounds lost which stayed lost. But, I have another 40 to go. And, I need…
  • I LOVE the idea of setting a timer...I'm going to give that a go. Timer, glass of water or tea, and if I still want it when the timer goes off, I'll have it. Thanks for that tip!!!!
  • I can't claim to have been hyper vigilant about logging for the past several days, but now that company is all gone I'm back to normal. Getting right back to what I know I have to do is one of the most important lessons I've learned on this journey to better health. I've failed at perfection repeatedly, and I'll continue…
  • JFT Friday I will get 10,000 steps, I will mentally prepare for my "dinner with the ladies" tonight, I will leave the dinner early enough and "save" enough calories to come home and have wine with my husband.
  • Oh no!!! I wish for you a speedy healing! Well, you will certainly be working on your upper body strength during your recovery. ;)
  • How exciting!! Those are terrific motivators. Keep us in the loop when it's time to travel. I love to hear travel stories :)
  • You know what really gets set aside for me during holidays?...sleep. And, sleep is so important to achieving a healthy weight. I find that a lack of sleep can result in weight gain or at the least a halt to weight loss. So I'm trying to make an extra effort to sleep a little bit more.
  • Move more, eat less...I don't freak out if I blow it. I think "hmmm, I wonder what triggered that". I attempt to figure it out, accept it, and move on. And, believe it or not, talking to myself really helps. "Alright girl, you know what you have to do; and, you know you can do it. Get busy."
  • Just want to get my walk in today. Saturday is always a challenge in that regard.
  • I am one of those people who faced the fact that I need to weigh and measure long into the foreseeable future. At home, I weigh and measure everything! Eyeballing when out works for me if I don't eat out too much. But, my weight loss will come to a screeching halt if I eyeball all the time.
  • Awesome job! Losing during Thanksgiving is a huge accomplishment. Thanks for the motivation!!
  • I often make loops inside my house just to add a few steps. And, when I go to a store I walk all the way around the store before I go to the department I need. Mall walking is a good solution for me on those inclement weather days :)
  • After a year of working at getting my health and weight under control, I still lose focus too, glimmersilver. But, I do find that I refocus quicker than I did a year ago. So, I'm making progress :) It helps to look back on how far I've come when I slip up. Because, now I KNOW I can do this! Speaking of which...what I want…
  • Jumping in here for the first time in this thread. I love the image of overcoming the gremlins! I'm eating away from home twice today. And, I have no idea what is being served :/ So, the gremlins are already excited about tricking me. I'm on the lookout for them, though. They won't catch me unaware ;)
  • Rubygirl614, I like the green smoothie prior to your Thanksgiving stops. That's a good idea for pre-events all year long!
  • I want to get my 10,000 steps in today! B)
  • Way to go, Crharris13. Prep helped me with Thanksgiving. I had my meals planned. And, since I was in charge of the menu and cooking, I didn't get blindsided with anything. I offered all desserts to departing guests. I tossed the leftovers that only I love. I did not get my walks in though. I missed those!
  • I look forward to that email every day. It keeps me focused :)
  • Wow BBee, 6:15am! Way to get moving. MostlyWater, you motivated me to get my steps in :) Great job with the boot camp routine.
  • Thank you nikkib and marek! Glad to find an active and positive group. Blessings on the journey.
  • I want to stay within calorie limits today and get my steps in...so I should get up off the couch and start moving :#
  • Hello all. I'm 52 years old and live near Gainesville Florida. I was a very active member of another online tracking program and managed to lose 40 pounds in six months by tracking calories, Doctor supervision, and walking. Then my weight loss stopped. I changed to My Fitness Pal several months ago, but haven't…
  • This is my second year with the Holiday Challenge. Last year I was just beginning my efforts to make changes in my life for better health. The tips and encouragement helped so much! Looking forward to even more this year
  • Thanks for starting this monthly challenge! I'm happy to join in. Name: Evin Age: 51 Height: 5'8" Start Weight (1st August): 193 Goal Weight (1st September): 189 1st August: 8th August: 15th August: 22nd August: 29th August: 1st September: Weight lost/gained this week: Weight lost/gained this month: Successes/struggles…
  • @barbiecat Wow! 22,000 steps. Way to go.
  • I talk to myself (out loud). "No, you are NOT going to eat that! Get OUT of the kitchen." "Oh yes you ARE going to ride that bike! Put your shoes on and get moving. You don't have to go far." Once I'm actually in motion, I tend to stay in motion. It's the start that's hard part.
  • Just for Thursday: I will go to bed on time and get at least 8 hours of sleep.
  • PROS: I'm a consistent logger (haven't missed a day in 9 months). I like to cook, and I prepare healthy meals for myself and my family. I'm a measurer/weigher, I don't guess when it comes to keeping track of calories. That started because I wanted to make absolutely sure I was getting ALL the calories I could in the early…
