  • How long has it been? Tbh I found that I haven't really been able to go far below maintenance without feeling ravenous until the last month or so, and we're busy planning baby's first birthday party. I'm eating anywhere between 1,500 and 2,000 each day and am losing. I'm not sure why I worried so much about exercise in the…
  • Me, too. I have a six week old. It's so much harder to eat healthily or work out while looking after a baby, but I'm trying. Add me!
  • Hello everyone. My little one is a month old now and I've plucked up the courage to get on the scales. I gained nearly 30 kg! Breastfeeding should help, but I'm sure all the midnight snacks to keep going aren't. Add me, we can support each other!
  • Me! We haven't tried to conceive yet, but since healthy weight mothers have better outcomes for conceiving, easier births and healthier babies, I decided I ought to be one. Although I should note that being underweight is far, far worse that being overweight. Fortunately in my case that isn't a danger!
  • I don't think you're crazy. Your partner is ignoring your wishes and taking your stuff! I'd be annoyed, too, and be asking them to be more supportive. My partner and I don't have this problem, because we are dieting together. We're doing that because we put on weight together when we compromised on food day in day out.…
  • A dietician friend of mine once told me that eating too much protein causes changes in the blood, which creates problems. However, I don't think it's likely to have an effect in the short/medium term, more as a long term lifestyle choice. It certainly is needed to build muscle, so if your diet is working for you, I'd stick…
  • I'm not a big fan, either, but it is filling and low cal. I put it in smoothies, so it tastes mostly of fruit.
  • I can generally work it out from the pie chart breaking it down by meal. There's no need to worry, though, it's usually in the form of beta carotene, which the body converts to vitamin a as needed, so there isn't really such a thing as too much.

  • I asked a similar question on the boards a couple of weeks ago, and the answer I got was don't worry about sugar from fruit. When we're told not to eat too much sugar they mean processed sugar. The NHS (I'm in the UK) specifically says, "Sugars also occur naturally in foods such as fresh fruit and milk, but we don't need…
  • Hello! I'm 5'10" and 14st 8lb, just starting out. I'm aiming to lose 2lb a week. It would be good to add some friends similar to me and see how they do it!
  • Mine was doing this. Removing the batteries and putting them back in again fixed it.
  • I'm not a man, but I do wear clothes. Cotton holds water really well. So when you sweat, it stays in your tshirt and makes you uncomfortable. I steal my (male) partner's sweat wicking tshirts when I go to the gym, and wear them loose, they're much better than cotton. You're in the UK, no? Is Decathlon not cheaper than…
  • I've been doing 1200 calories for a week now. I had two very hungry days when I didn't get my breakfast right, which were really tough. For me, I can do it as long as I have a filling, proteiny breakfast (smoothies and omelettes are working for me) and snack a lot on fruit. I have beans or lentils at every evening meal, as…
  • When I do similar things, I remember an Oliver Burkeman article (which I can't find now!) pointing out that studies show the people who succeed at weight loss, staying sober, etc aren't the ones who never fall off the wagon, but who, having fallen off, get back on. You're actually *more* likely to eat healthily long term…
  • I eat some of mine back. For me it's a good motivator to do some exercise, even if it's just a stroll, and I already have quite a big deficit. If it's several hundred, though, I only eat back half, otherwise it doesn't feel worth it.
  • I think you're onto something, @crazyjerseygirl. It's good advice, in it's own way, but counting calories is so much easier than it was that it seems a bit outdated. I've had to deploy a spare mixing bowl to hold all the extra fruit I bought today, following your advice. Thanks for the suggestions, too. I've made myself a…
  • Thank you all for the info! I'm not diabetic, sugar doesn't really affect me. I guess I believe it because all the healthy eating advice I've been given since childhood says too much sugar is bad. It also says that fruit is good, though. I'll take your advice and not worry about it as long as I'm meeting the other…
  • Because eating lots of sugar isn't healthy. I'd like to have a balanced diet.
