  • It hasn't been an option since started using the site last year. The closest thing to keeping track of directions is under the auto import feature where one can provide a recipe's url. Once ingredients are imported and edited, the recipe's link stays attached so one can follow it to the directions.
  • So once again I like what I see when I'm naked in the bathroom mirror.
  • I make a slightly lighter version of ranch dressing by swapping regular mayo for olive oil blended mayo. There's a whole board on MFP devoted to recipes that you might want to go search for ideas. You'll probably find quite a bit more there.
  • And congratulations to you, too, for getting there. Hitting the healthy range for my BMI was one of my goals, too. Feels good, doesn't it?
  • Pulling up my weight loss graph and seeing that zig-zagging line edging lower and lower helps. Sometimes I'll try on a shirt I used to wear that's too big for me now. I also watch videos of belly dancers like Ava Fleming and Oreet to remind myself that I want to look good in costume should I decide to dance again.
  • As corny as this could sound...traditional good posture, along with making one look confident, can be a subtle confidence booster. If you can carry yourself well, hold your head up, look people in the eye and smile at them, they'll respond more favorably to you and you'll feel better about being out there.
  • A gym is a place where you can be surrounded by people who are thinking mostly about what they're doing for themselves and we're just one more face blurring into the background for them. It's the kind of thing where you can meld into the crowd and still be completely alone. You've got to force yourself to go a time or two…
  • Yes, I would call that success. You've made wonderful progress. Keep up the good work.
  • Stepping on the scale and seeing that the number it shows is smaller than when I started this process, watching my BMI move closer to the middle of my healthy range, logging my calories and getting as close to goal as I can, and seeing physical changes for the better in the mirror all help keep me going. At this point,…
  • The more interested I am in enhancing my health and eating better, the less facebook is able to interest me. It's easier to come here to find a community with similar goals than to bore all the people in my network with posts most won't care about.
  • I like Sir Osric's advice. It sounds sensible. For the first few months I've been here, I did chose to lose weight without exercising. One thing you might want to experiment with is prelogging the food you expect to eat for the day and the exercises you might do. When you look at the estimates MFP gives you after that, you…
  • I like your action plan. You've consciously chosen to enjoy foods that could be viewed as less healthy options in moderation while loading up on vegetables. As for for sneaking out for a walk, I've seen that bandied about often on the forums here as a way to distract oneself from mindlessly overeating. You might even be…
  • The more times we keep trying, the more chances we give ourselves to succeed. Plus, every time you've learned a little bit more about what did work for you and what didn't for you. You can do this.
  • Nice going. I like how all those small changes helped snowball into a healthier, fitter lifestyle for you. That's exactly the kind of inspiration a friend of mine needs.
  • There is nothing unrealistic about what the BMI charts lists as a healthy weight range for me. When it showed me as 10 pounds away from being considered obese, I could look at myself in the mirror and see that, yes, I was overweight and on a short cruise towards obesity. I've gone from overweight to being in the healthy…
  • I found that logging sharply curtailed my grazing habits because I didn't want to take the time to calculate how much of a serving that one potato chip was that I was grabbing, let alone take the time to log it. If I'm eating something I don't have time to log, I make a note of it and take care of it at the end of the day.…
  • For my first 3 months, I chose to lose weight by just watching what I eat and that plan was working fine. Like the others mentioned, it's a matter of putting fewer calories into your body than it burns off.
  • That emu is a wise bird. I love myself enough to know that it's beyond time to check the baggage from the past and get myself back to the healthy, happy physical condition that I use to be in.
  • There were certain types of junk food that I never really liked but would eat if they were in front of me. That stuff I cut out. Everything else I make fit into my calorie budget. Usually that means eating smaller portions for me.
  • Signing up to try a new activity, enjoying a spa service, heading out to a show or taking a day trip somewhere new. Books have always been my big motivator.
  • Partly I'm going by if I'm happy the way I look unclothed. (I'll be curious to see if I'm the only one going by that.)
  • What about suggesting she check with her doctor the next time she's complaining about feeling constantly tired and run down? Since she's not entirely making the connection to her eating habits, she might go for that idea. And if so, it might also be possible to remind her to mention that even though she downs X redbulls a…
  • Like the others said, you've got the right idea about it. Moving on and getting back on track the next day is what moves us closer to our health goals.
  • A little bit of success is nice for motivation. Every day is a new chance to do a good job for ourselves.
  • Last summer I bought two blouses, same cut and style, but two different colors. One of them turned out to be slightly smaller than the other and incredibly tight on my upper arms. Now that I'm on MFP and down 18 pounds, it fits correctly.
  • It's generous of you to share it with us. There needs to be more images of normal people online. Congratulations on your 20 pounds and best of luck as you continue your journey.
  • B. I log it as it happened and move on. There may be some extra exercise to soak up a few of those extra calories, but just as often I don't worry about it.
  • What Kami said. When I import recipes there's almost always 1 or 2 things that are matched incorrectly, even when brands and quantities are specified.
  • No one will ever think of me as a morning person, but I use to get up at 4:30 AM M-F. After a week or two of forcing yourself to do it combined with an earlier bedtime it gets easier.
  • Agreed. This one needs a permanent link at the top of the message board with a giant heart next to it. I sent my parents links to the prancercise video with the horses in it once when they were talking losing weight. About 10 minutes later they went down to their dock and spoofed prancercising all the way there, thinking…
