This is for all of you out there just getting started, not feeling its worth it, thinking its too hard.
I too am just getting started, about 5,6 weeks I guess.
For years I have been unhappy with my weight, my energy/stamina, how tight my leg muscles were which caused constant cramps and leg aches etc. etc.
But every time I thought about doing something about it, that negative thought process started. I would envision these gymnasts who are so flexible.. "oh I could never be like that"
Or going to the gym every day "oh man thats just too much commitment"
On and on it went, then when I would do something about it, I went so overboard that I quit within a week or two.
Then I got this watch.. I wont say a brand because this isnt a plug for anyone, but its a watch that just reminds me...
MOVE!!

Thats what started it, just move, plain and simple... get up and MOVE
That got me thinking about how easy it would be to just throw a blanket on the floor and sit in a position that wasnt the usual "sprawled out in my armchair"
So I did, for 5 minutes, just five minutes, I spent 1 minute just lightly stretching each leg.
Right side, left side, right side, left side, and then a 1 minute groin stretch. Simple right? No gym membership, no huge time sink.
I am lucky enough to have an elliptical here So I said OK fine lets move it to there, 5 minutes again. Plug in the phone, play some happy get your feet moving music and do 5 whole minutes, after a week I did 10, then 15, The last couple days its been 30.
But it doesnt have to be an elliptical, do jumping jacks if you can, or squats, or take a brisk walk around the block.
A few weeks in I started looking at the other things the watch could do and found MFP, that started me paying
(while I am writing my watch just did its Get up and MOVE)
attention to what I was eating. I have always been a relatively healthy eater, love vegetables and all that but those "before bed snacks" wow they will rack up the pounds. Especially for me, my weapon of choice was a peanut butter sandwich.
peanut butter=good, but eating one with two slices of bread and jelly every night before bed... not so good.
Stop the late night snacking... not a huge commitment right?

In just these few short weeks I've lost 10.5 lbs, 5 or so since I been tracking it with MFP.
So trust me, If my self defeating, negative thinking stick in the mud self can get up and do it, YOU can too
just baby step it, it wont happen overnight but you have to START!
My profile pic is me with 20 extra pounds to remind me to just keep moving!!

You're off to a good start, keep up the hard work and it will pay off. And you are right about negativity - it gets you nowhere.

Yes. The only way to change . . . is to change something. I will never be a supermodel or a world-class athlete, but I can always be, in some way, a better me. The best (only?) way to fail at that, is to never start.

A dozen years ago, I got much more active. It improved my happiness, strength, and general well-being substantially, despite the fact that I remained (for then) obese. Over the last roughly 5 months, I've lost almost 40 pounds & made it into the normal BMI range for the first time in decades. My general well-being has made further improvements as a result.

BTW: You're doing great - keep up the good work and good attitude!

Nice going. I like how all those small changes helped snowball into a healthier, fitter lifestyle for you. That's exactly the kind of inspiration a friend of mine needs.
