Happy Labor Day! A tip or two you might like.

As we remember and celebrate labor and all it's rewards, let's be responsible and smart about it. This is the perfect test to show we CAN indulge and stick to our plan. I've worked hard and made gains so I will have a scoop of all natural ice cream. Just one. I will have one or two spare ribs but none of the junk filling the plate. My secret will be to eat before I leave for the party, have a tall glass of water b4 I make my plate at the bbq and hit the veggie tray first. With enough carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, there's not much room for the bad stuff. Don't mull around the buffet table. That's just tempting fate. At some point I sneak out of the party and take a walk around the block. It gets me away from food, I get a burn and I can check out the neighborhood. I also keep drinking water. It keeps you full. Have fun everybody and be safe!

Well that just sounds like a great way to have "fun" at a "party".

You are literally running (or walking) away from the party to avoid the food. I'm not convinced that's the best coping mechanism.

My plans will be to eat the foods I enjoy in moderation.

I like your action plan. You've consciously chosen to enjoy foods that could be viewed as less healthy options in moderation while loading up on vegetables. As for for sneaking out for a walk, I've seen that bandied about often on the forums here as a way to distract oneself from mindlessly overeating. You might even be able to rope one or two other people into taking a stroll with you.

I use to try an eat before I went but guess what? I still ate, because it was all so amazing!! so now I eat a light breakfast and just do the best I can and journal it all and go from there. No more "it's the end of the world!" just brush it off and keep on keeping on!!!

This sounds awful. Didn't nobody get fat because they ate on holidays or birthdays. It's a single day. Enjoy yourself. Don't even bother logging. Because it's just one day.

It wasn't suggested as a coping mechanism. Merely one of the benefits. The idea is a body in motion.... Unfortunately, because of where we live, we have back yards that less than 500 sq. ft. Filled with tables, a grill and a couple dozen people, very little walking can be accomplished. Plus, 4+ hours sticking to a lawnchair listening to the wife chit chat requires relief from time to time. Taking that walk is also a nice way to experience a neighborhood different than your own. I get ideas from landscaping to paint colour for my front door just by looking at other homes. For brevity's sake, I abbreviated the point assuming folks would expand positively and use what works.
