  • I disagree with this. An average slice of cake is about 400-500 calories, and I can burn that in half an hour. Working out helps keep energy conservation in check, as anyone who exercises would probably have otherwise not been active for that time period. While working out is not the sole reason for losing weight, it gets…

  • As a general rule, if you are hungry and weary, you should eat. The body knows what it needs, so don’t ignore it based on what amount you “should” eat to lose weight. Only exception is if you have a disorder that doesn’t shut off hunger hormones.
  • But if weighing herself works for her, should she weight? Hehe, I like to be funny. Putting theory into practice for something that has no immediate reward is inherently hard. Diets with a name are often talked about here, and debated whether it works or not. I tend to eat lower carbs but not for dieting purposes. I just…
  • Just out of curiosity....did she have a scan or test done to see what her levels of visceral fat are?
  • Just take off the tracker when working out, then put it on when done.
  • If you are very sedentary and have a habit of snacking when you are bored, the activity (any extra activity, such as going to the zoo for instance) will keep your food intake in check. Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is how much energy in calories you use to function on a daily basis. Eat less than that each day and…
  • I don’t stock anything sweet in the house besides fruit, and even that is for the lady as my gastrointestinal system often has problems digesting them. Usually the novelties suck me in like a fly to a zapper. Sometimes, I’ll indulge, and go on a diet soda binge for a week or so, or get some candy. Our brain loves sweet, it…
  • If you cook in bulk, you can summate the amount you use (200g), take the mass of the rice cooked (as you say 500g which is just 300g of added water, unless you add butter), and then use proportions. 200g uncooked = X calories = 500g cooked 100g cooked on plate = (100/500)X =0.2X calories on your plate
  • It probably has a mass attached to the fraction. Go by that. Much simpler.
  • Oh....
  • I am in the same boat you are. I have quit and restarted multiple times. Most recently, about 12 days ago, I am a quitter again. It was spring break for me, so I took that week and ate like a cow. I am mentally and physically incapable of eating right while trying to get nicotine out of my system. I have the ability to…
  • You can pry wine "from my cold dead hands"....to quote another poster. haha I go on soda binges, but I often don't stock it. For instance, when Pepsi has a sale of 4/$10 12 packs, Ill get a variety of diet sodas because....well, sometimes, ya just want a soda! But then I get soda-ed out and don't purchase them except with…
  • I am in the same boat. I take it one day at a time, and one goal at a time. Lately, I got off the cigarettes again, so I ate like a cow and had the activity of a cow. Then, once the nicotine was out of my system, I can graze less, so my goal now is to maintain a deficit (fitbit is helping out with that). Next, it will be a…
  • Weight loss is commonly thought of as one system: Calories in, calories out. Expenditure should be more than intake, and we lose weight. If it worked exactly like that on a day to day basis, weight loss would be easy and obesity wouldn't be a thing. Unfortunately, our body is a multitude of systems that all need the same…
  • Just keep swimming....just keep swimming...just keep swimming swimming swimming.
  • To add to the posters above, I can say two things: 1. be careful of hidden calories. For instance, if you use some oil to sautee some veggies, make sure to include the whole serving of oil in your calculation. Even though there is some runoff, or left in the pan, most will be absorbed by the food. 2. You can get a fitbit…
  • Novice lifter here. Anyone doing stronglifts 5x5? Simple program for me. Looking to lose weight and hopefully show off the muscles I know I have under the cushioning. Friend me if you have similar goals! Thanks! Josh
  • I’m from AZ! I could use some local buds to motivate!
  • Start with education. Chances are, your child doesn’t know or understand the concept of nutrients, or what exercise does for health. You and your pediatrician can help your children learn about these things, then develop a plan from there. Kids do amazing things when equipped with knowledge.
  • The closer you get to your goal weight, (and therefore the smaller the numbers get), the more erroneous the data becomes. I am 230ish, and I often account for any error, such as overestimating food and underestimating exercise (I deduct calories I would have burned in some alternate universe where I didn't choose to work…
  • The only macros ratios that hurt your progress are those that cause you to overeat. If you are eating good food for you and your baby, and are able to stay in your calorie goal...I'd call it good.
  • Wow...a thread about carbs that didn't go nuclear! You guys are amazing! Bleh.. it deleted what else I typed. I tried to contribute.

  • I try to stay lower carb, but don't want to completely exclude them. I usually will lose them for recovery, when I get in a rhythm. As for breads, I am in love with Nature's Own Life brand, especially the Wheat+Protein variety. Very little carbs (as breads go), no HFCS, and chock fulla protein from whey and soy.
  • Saw this on a House episode once...it wasn't a good thing. Hope you are alright
  • Your last week has not been tracked consistently. Do you eat at restaurants a lot? There can be hidden calories or outdated information in the food you are purchasing (say, if a restaurant changes the recipe). The fluctuation of quantities served can also add to your problem. What is your weight, and what is your goal? Is…
  • You can mix a lot of stuff in keto. I do a lot of one skillet meals. Brown some ground, then throw the eggs in. Boom. Instant delicious. Sautee a veggie medley, then throw the cheese in. Boom. Instant Delicious.

  • If you are on the mobile app, scan the barcode of the eggs. 95% of the time, they are accurate for the things I eat.
