You are definitely not alone. I have thought of giving up alcohol completely many times but I always come back to trying to moderate. I live in a big city and everything includes alcohol, dinner with friends, work functions, on and on. I know I'm not a good moderator, really of anything in my life, but I can't seem to let…

I read his book and get his weekly emails. He has a good perspective that looks at alcohol differently and helps you to feel empowered by not drinking.

I'm in! Definitely need a little dry out. I like the no drinks Sun-Thursday idea and not overdoing Fri and Sat. I began a weekly yoga workshop on Wednesdays which I think will get me over the hump and help to refocus my energies.

LOL, I should have known better than to bring up potato hacking on anything other than a paleo MFP board...touché!

Perhaps that is true but long term calorie restriction day in and day out may not work for everyone, in fact since most people re-gain weight on the traditional daily calorie deficit if fasting helps make it more comfortable and manageable I do not see the problem. It was not until recently that we had a serious obesity…

I think it might be more due to the fasting than the keto diet. At the risk of starting an MFP science fight...there is evidence that fasting has health benefits and may make it easier to restrict overall calories thus leading to weight loss. I have been doing 5:2 fasting where you eat normal (I'm using my maintenance…

I bet I was! OP, maybe another suggestion might be to have someone who is experienced in running and proper form actually watch you run and give you suggestions. Like me you might not realize you are doing something detrimental until someone else points it out.

I am so glad that I read this thread! I had never come across the 5:2 method and started it this week. It seems like something I can stick too. Lord knows the daily restriction is not working for me. Thanks all!

I would also suggest that you incorporate some kind of weight training routine. It doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. It will balance you out and also strong, toned muscles will help hold you body in the proper posture so that you get the best running stride. I noticed that when I started lifting the running got…

A friend of mine who used to compete in triathalons once told me that no one likes running, they like the feeling they have after they are DONE running (which I saw echoed above). This, I can wrap my head around. I will run short distances, a mile or less, in CrossFit if it's part of the WOD but that's about it. Years ago…

Same principle with the potato hacking, it helps your mental relationship with food to remove the palatability for a bit. And potatoes are very satiating so hunger is not an issue. And you can intermittent fast on the hack.

Totally agree. Fasting is not inherently unsafe and I think our bodies are designed to be fine with occasional fasting. Before recent times people were forced to fast when food was scarce. Obviously you would need to consider its safety in the context of any health issues you may have. I have done fasts up to 48 hours and…

Oh that is just evil! LOL!

I LOVE those things...but I agree that one piece should not make you feel that terrible. In the past I tried to completely eliminate all "bad" food and having come back from going down that rabbit hole I can tell you it is likely an exercise in futility. I still believe that it is best to eat mostly whole and nutritious…

Probably not...I naturally have a "bubble butt" so I'm likely not the best person to comment on this...When I was young and much thinner my friends used to tell me I was all butt when I turned to the side LOL.

Easy, just do a ton of squats. With weight if you can. Just squat and squat some more

Consider an iodine supplement. It can really help with fatigue/hormonal issues. While I believe iodine is safe be mindful of the quality and dosage. I like nascent iodine, much easier to dose smaller and digest.

Vital Proteins Matcha Collagen. 2 of my favorite super foods in one convenient product.

Probably interval training. That's how I log my tabata sessions.

Since she is a hairstylist I actually think that setting to "lightly active" or "active" would be appropriate. You are not sitting at a desk all day, having to think about adding steps. You are definitely not "sedentary." People like me who work in a cubicle all day are sedentary. That being said I also do not know how you…

The first movie was made for TV, and while it was great I saw it again a few years ago and it's a bit dated. So I'm not bothered that they are finally making a feature film now. It looks good, I'll have to re-read the book again, been years! Although the one kid looks familiar and I feel like he irritated me in whatever I…

I had a very small sip of wine last night at the fancy French restaurant. It was described as "like rain falling on wet rocks"...so I was intrigued. But that was it. Enjoyed my crazy fresh oysters and a nice fizzy lemonade.

Hum, Kombucha getting moldy is actually pretty rare. I'm not saying that it didn't happen but if you try to brew again you can send pics to the Kombucha Mama and she will verify if it's mold. Sometimes the culture spew all sorts of things but it's just some yeast. If anything I think it might have been a kind of unstable…

Going to a fancy French restaurant tonight with some of the attorneys I work with. I SO want a nice glass of wine! However I think I will see if I can get a virgin cocktail or maybe just some sparkling water and let them treat me to some nice oysters instead!

@RaeBeeBaby @donimfp without hijacking this thread too much Kombucha is very easy to make at home and delicious! Store bought is usually a bit more mild, when you make it at home it's only as "tangy" as you let it get over time. Like apple cider it will turn to vinegar the longer it ferments. IM me if you want some more…

I do not have a problem with more fat people on TV. There are more fat people in real life and if a show like "This is Us" is trying to do a drama based on real people with real problems, relationships, etc, then someone who is overweight can, and perhaps should, be part of the equation. I guess I'm conflicted with the…

Love Golden Milk and I brew my own Kombucha! Some bars in my city have Kombucha on tap...it's a nice way to have a "drink" without having a drink. Wish more of them did it...

I read that book and loved it. Like you I can't relate to the day in and day out aspect of her addiction but I see a lot of the excuse and rule making. Rules I always break and have excuses for. To be honest I feel like I could just let it go if there was not such a stigma in doing so. I mean, I love the way it makes me…
