  • Good Evening All! Lots of posts today! It's hard to keep up with them all, so I'll just make a daily report. First day back to class was as expected, in other words like 'herding cats". None of the students were eager to dive into work; I'm quite sure most of the teachers were in the same frame of mind. The weather here is…
  • I teach Biology, Environmental Science and Forensics. I would not enjoy teaching non-science subjects, I would prefer to stick with subjects I am confident in :) My hat is off to teachers of younger students, I much prefer teenagers that can be "reasoned with". The Costa Rica trip I am taking this summer is for…
  • Good Morning All, Kim password piece is too funny, and unfortunately accurate. Carol I am having problems with accurately logging dinner as well, mostly because of cooking with no recipe. I do perfectly well with breakfast and dinner, then it seems to fall apart later in the day. My husband likes to eat out on the…
  • Hi Karen, The support for sugar snaps depends upon the strain of seed you buy. Most of the hybrids that are common on the market are short vines, 2-3 feet in length. I'll hope your weather is good, in my part of Indiana it goes from cool (good) to hot(bad) in the blink of an eye. You can use a tomato cage for support of…
  • I do, its not blooming yet here. I got starts of many of my grandma's and great aunt's flowers. When we moved to this house 14 years ago, the flowers came with, in little bits here and there. I have more "heirlooms" outside the house than inside!
  • KIm We call that iris "grandma''s iris" because the only start I know of in that color came from my grandma's yard. Amazing to find a picture of it in this thread! Thanks for sharing Lora in Indiana
  • Barbie Thank you for keeping the thread going, for being so positive and sharing your goals and resolutions. Lisaawesome quilt! My older son would have adored that. Your granddaughter Haley looks so much like my Holly Anne (DYD) at that age, with the ponytail poof on top, and the bright smile. JoyceWhen my kids take over…
  • Good Morning All, Today is a new day! Heading out in the pouring spring rain to walk. I won't take the dogs, they hate the rain (being inside babies). It's in the 50's here and deeply overcast. My husband bought a robot vacuum cleaner. We named it Codsworth ( after a video game character) and it just started up. It sounds…
  • Miriam, I am prone to the same problem with fresh vegetables. They look so wonderful and full of promise at the store, then at home they transform into extra work at dinner. Yesterday I went to the new FreshThyme store in town, they are a commercial "farmers market" type store while carrying all sorts of healthy, mostly…
  • I agree that the wine can really limit your weight loss. I try to keep my drinking to one glass per day, at dinner. Even my doctor says that's reasonable.
  • Carol, very nice pictures! Lora in Indiana
  • For some reason my picture of the girls didn't load, lets try again!
  • Hello All, have done little to nothing today, was very tired from the trip, I suppose. One of the reasons my DH decided on a trip over Easter Weekend is because our family is very extended, and the four kids feel stressed on the holidays from attending multiple festivities. We are lucky enough to see our 2 of our…
  • Rose, A question: do you have access to a light yoga class? I have RA and have found more relief from my pain in yoga than in anything else. Not the over-the-top power yoga, but something slower, focused on stretching and breathing. The beauty of yoga is it can be personalized to your own practice, so if something hurts,…
  • That TOTM thing, I totally agree it can wreak havoc with your weight loss. I retain water during that time like crazy. And being in perimenopause just adds the fun of unpredictability. So three pounds is perfectly plausible. I am a daily weight logger too so I have learned what makes me fluctuate. Don't be stressed over…
  • Hello All, back from 3 days with the DH in Nashville TN. We did a lot of walking, shopping and bar-BQ eating. My husband is crazy about that stuff. Very proud of myself, only went over my calorie count one day, and that was due to a fabulous sparkling wine :) Heather, I understand how you feel about the garden. I have…
  • I handle 99% of my diet by using portion control. Basically, I eat whatever I want but measure portion sizes and and count the calories. I was NOT good at portion control with wine, so I had to stop. I wish you luck. :flowerforyou:[/quote] I am doing the same thing. Trying to limit the wine to one glass a night. Good luck!
  • I am eating the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal. It has whey powder in it to up the protein content. Keeps me full longer, I eat breakfast at about 0530, then can't eat lunch at school until 12:00. You might try that, just a suggestion.
  • Carol, some of my best childhood memories are of helping my grandma Dorothy make a baked chicken. I have her roaster pan now, it is a humongous cast-iron thing. My chickens never taste as good as hers did, though. I think that there is a big difference in the way chickens are raised these days, they aren't as "rich"…
  • Thank you all for the welcome! Joyce, I live north of Terre Haute. Lenora, stay on your daughter in law about the mammogram. I have lost too many loved ones to that disease. lhannon, love the pics! My husband and I try to get out to to Arizona or Las Vegas at least once a year. We are not gamblers, just love the country…
  • Hello All, reading this thread is like walking into a room filled with good friends. I wanted to introduce myself. I am married, a blended family of 2 girls and 2 boys, 4 lovely little granddaughters. I am a high school science teacher and really love my job. I have come to MFP looking to lose weight at the advice of my…
  • I have had this discussion with one of my kids, who prefers an energy drink to coffee. Everything in moderation. Just remember that there is stuff in those drinks that are not for your good health. All of them are different, and you need to research the ingredients and be an informed consumer. Good luck!
  • I have been treated for depression since by my first child was born, 26 years ago. If I had known then what I know now, I would have asked for help a lot sooner. Try to remember that clinical depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain, as other posts have stated. You need the right medication and the healthy changes…
  • Hello, live and work in Indiana, (keep the corn jokes coming). 4 kids, mostly grown, 4 granddaughters, one more grandbaby girl due this month. I've been on and off the weight-loss train for a long time, ready to stay on it and improve my health! Too much to live for!
  • Hello All, looking for friends and motivation. I am 48, married with four children in a blended family now (mostly) grown, four beautiful granddaughters. Trying to get back in shape after a scare with the cardiologist. I am blessed that my husband works at a university so I have access to great work-out facilities, and I…
