You can order a kit for raising mealworms. A lot of choices came up when I googled it, but I haven't tried it, so I can't recommend one. I saw this on the news on CNN, too. I'm grossed out by the idea, but I also know my attitude is cultural. Bugs have a lot of protein. People eat them all over the world. Go for it.

I'm so very sorry about your loss. I'm also a widow and not crazy about cooking. My staples (I'm vegetarian but you could adapt to your lifestyle): -- Instant plain oatmeal with almonds and apple (add hot water and I'm done) -- Amy's soups (in all the grocery stores here -- I live in the USA -- plus Amazon carries them.…

You could make a sermon about hard it is to say no in life, but sometimes we have to do that -- and give a personal example how in church culture food means love, how the doctor told you have a health problem, how hard it is to say no to people so you can get healthier and be around to be a good shepherd, how sometimes we…

Lentils and other dry beans are about $1 USD per bag (I don't know where you live) and have decent protein (lentils have 18 G protein per cup and don't require soaking. One bag makes 2-3 meals with rice and vegetables).

I've added almonds and walnuts to my oatmeal, a half avocado to salads, and occasionally use olive oil to stir fry vegetables. I understand that we need fat to absorb some vitamins and minerals, for cell growth, and other basic functions. Some kinds of fats raise "good" cholesterol. Fats are essential.

My suggestion: buy a bag of dried lentils. They cost about $1.00 in the USA (I don't know where you live). Just buy one bag to see if you like them first. You don't have to soak them. Put in a large pot of water, boil, then put the heat on low and simmer for about an hour. Turn the heat off, leave the lid on, and let them…

Last year my doctor told me I had hypertension -- 150/something, about like yours. I've always had normal BP and was shocked. I lowered it to an acceptable level in a month and totally normal within several months. I lost weight and exercised every day and never went on pills. I also cleaned up my diet and cut out junk…

I don't think this is about them not "getting" it. They are on a power trip and enjoy pulling your strings and pushing you around. Explanations don't work with people like that. I wish I had some good advice, but I really don't have any -- except maybe try to eat away from home as much as possible and try to move out when…

I also have borderline low Vitamin D (not low enough to take special supplements, but within 2 points of needing them). My doctor told me that supplements will raise your Vitamin D levels, but when you stop taking them your levels will fall back again. I'm concerned because I had a serious health condition (under control…

Okay, here's one suggestion. You obviously don't like to cook. I don't like it either. I live by myself and have no interest in cooking. Find some quick meals you do like and branch out from there. Examples from my day (I'm a vegetarian, but you could adapt to your lifestyle): Breakfast: instant oatmeal (yes, evil instant…

I agree with this. I would tell them your weight is a personal matter between you and your doctor, it is not their decision to make, and the topic is off limits, period. If you still live with them, I hope you can find your own place.

Thanks! I just bookmarked this and will try it this week. I used to hate tofu too (except when prepared by a local Chinese restaurant -- the people there know how to cook tofu so it's delicious). Now I'm learning how to cook it for the protein and have managed some tasty dishes.

I'm a vegetarian and eat a vegan diet 99 percent of the time. I chose this diet because of ethics issues and also to lower my high cholesterol, which is normal now. My advice would be to start with vegan sources of protein. Find one or two meals with that protein that you like to eat and expand from there. Example of my…

I am over 50, lost 37 pounds in 4.5 months, and the only exercise I did was walk. I stuck to 1200 calories and didn't starve myself. I walked about an hour a day, once in a while 2 hours. I also walked at an ordinary pace and even read a book on the treadmill. Walking is a wonderful exercise with low risk of injury and is…

So many great replies. I agree with people who said the best one is the one you will do. Outside: You get the benefit of nature or other interesting scenery. You get the benefit of great variety -- big hills, trails, etc. The ground is harder. Sometimes the weather is not so great or even risky (rain/snow/ice) Treadmill:…

I'm vegetarian, don't eat eggs, and rarely eat dairy. I have no problem getting enough protein. My protein mostly comes from: Lentils and beans, especially black beans and chickpeas. Most varieties of beans are a great protein source. Tofu, which I press the water out of, cut in small pieces, and stir fry with olive oil,…

You're in luck. The exercise database has two entries for mowing the lawn: "mowing lawn, general" and "mowing lawn, rider mower." The calorie count might not be accurate but it's a place to start.

Even if your scale at home is off, it shouldn't matter. That would mean you started 10+ pounds higher than you thought, so you've still lost the weight. I was weighing with 3 scales: at home, a few times at a local drug store, and at my doctor's office. They all gave me different numbers, but I still lost the same amount…

I mostly eat simple whole foods for health reasons. I also like this type of food. I'm a vegetarian/almost vegan but am happy to be friends with anybody with any lifestyle. I've lost almost 40 pounds and have been in maintenance since November 2016.

Bernese Mountain dogs are very nice dogs. About the adult dogs and other pets... I'm not good at training puppies and putting up with their energy. I love collies and always adopt from a collie rescue. I was concerned about the very issue you mention, so I gave the rescue a list of what I wanted (a gentle dog with good…

I agree with the person who posted it probably depends on where you live. I live in the United States, where we are supposed to have safe drinking water. However, my tap water smells bad, so I drink it filtered or buy water. I believe the spring water I buy doesn't have fluoride, which prevents tooth decay, so that's…

See if you can get people to put the snacks in a break room instead of all over the place. Gross yourself out -- imagine unwashed hands touching the food, or people with flu sneezing on it, a piece of hair in the cookies, etc. Put a little inspiring fitness photo on your desk to remind yourself of why you want to control…

I'm a beginning runner too. I live in Pennsylvania where we also have very snowy winters. One thing that I discovered by accident that helps my endurance is jogging in place (or jogging at over a short distance, like around my living room). I started to do this in my house because it was too icy to drive to the gym or…

This is not a troll comment. Maybe you should see a doctor, seriously.

Okay, here's my opinion. (1) I'm an adult who went back to college. I had to take a physical fitness class this year. The person who taught the class also teaches high school gym/physical fitness/soccer and other sports (as well as college in the evening). Fitness includes nutrition and basic knowledge about our bodies,…

Triceps dips are supposed to help. You can do them in a chair or on the floor. Google for more info plus there are videos on youtube. Here's one article: https://www.popsugar.com/fitness/How-Do-Triceps-Dips-1055754

Good luck with ytour dog search. Just a few thoughts here. Most rescue groups just do one home visit, not 3. They are looking out for the animal's best interests. They want to be sure the potential owner is responsible, not someone with mental health problems, like hoarding. They also want to be sure the property is what…

I don't want to derail the thread. It doesn't bother me if the manufacturer rounds some tiny number down to zero. I don't know what they do and it is not worth the research. Like the OP, I wanted a low sugar or no sugar breakfast food (my reason is medical). Oatmeal beats almost everything else on the shelves for my needs.

I eat plain oatmeal. You can get all kinds, from steel cut oats to the kind that cooks in a few minutes to instant. They sell it with sugar and flavors or plain. The label on my instant oatmeal says it has 0 sugar (I eat instant, don't hate me oatmeal fans). I never was a big fan of oatmeal, but I've become one -- I add…
