  • Good luck with ytour dog search. Just a few thoughts here. Most rescue groups just do one home visit, not 3. They are looking out for the animal's best interests. They want to be sure the potential owner is responsible, not someone with mental health problems, like hoarding. They also want to be sure the property is what…
  • I don't want to derail the thread. It doesn't bother me if the manufacturer rounds some tiny number down to zero. I don't know what they do and it is not worth the research. Like the OP, I wanted a low sugar or no sugar breakfast food (my reason is medical). Oatmeal beats almost everything else on the shelves for my needs.
  • I eat plain oatmeal. You can get all kinds, from steel cut oats to the kind that cooks in a few minutes to instant. They sell it with sugar and flavors or plain. The label on my instant oatmeal says it has 0 sugar (I eat instant, don't hate me oatmeal fans). I never was a big fan of oatmeal, but I've become one -- I add…
  • 1. What do you do to avoid hunger while still eating fewer calories than your body is used to? What do you do if you get hungry after you've hit your daily calorie limit? If I've eaten my calories for the day and I'm still hungry, I drink some water, tea or black coffee. I ignore the hunger pangs. OR I might go for a walk…
  • Same here! I take long nature walks for exercise and peace of mind.
  • A lot of office environments are really unhealthy. I used to work in an office where I was surrounded by candy, cakes, treats people would bring in especially around the holidays, etc. I liked working there, but I also constanly wished I could quit to get away from the food culture. Every office/job has some problem. I…
  • The main thing here is not your food vs his food. It's the insanity of offices, being locked up all day with people who can completely get on your nerves. The contest sounds like it was supposed to be in good fun. I would draw some boundaries with the guy or the group - directly, with or without humor. You don't need to…
  • He sounds awful, forcefully insisting you have to follow his ideas when you have had success already -- plus the under 20 carbs a day is just wrong. He sounds like an uneducated control freak. Run!
  • Good luck to you. Millions of people have quit and you can too. I tried stopping on my own several times but always started again. I finally realized I needed outside help and signed up for a 6 week program. That was over 20 years ago. In the United States many hospitals have free stop-smoking programs. They give you…
  • Some people find they can moderate added sugar. They eat a little on a regular basis. The idea behind moderation is to prevent deprivation which can bring on binging. I'm an older person, have tried sugar moderation many times in my life, and it never worked for me. Last year I stopped eating as much added sugar as…
  • No weight loss foods. Anything that fits in my calories is okay. However, I'm eating these to help my cholesterol numbers: Oatmeal Almonds Walnuts Avocado Black olives Lentils and split peas Leafty greens (collards and kale) Takeout salads (red cabbage, celery, spinach, olives, cherry tomatoes, a dozen other things -- I…
  • People lose weight by calories. You can actually lose weight with no exercise at all -- eat fewer calories than you burn with your normal activities. Of course exercise helps but it is not essential to lose weight. Look at the food you eat and try to get the best value for the calories you have to work with. Good luck.
  • There is no magic answer. You have to decide your health is a priority and make the time. I read some of my textbooks while I walk on the treadmill at the gym (I wear foam earplugs). It's not the greatest exercise, but I can burn about 250 calories in an hour. Exercise early because you are more likely to be tired later in…
  • Make sure you are logging accurately. Change something. Eat more food for a few days. Do intermittent fasting (IF) for a week or two, either the 5:2 or eat within an 8 hour window. Try different exercise. Take a break for two weeks and eat slightly more, then go back to it.
  • I love all these suggestions, especially putting the baby in the stroller to go for a walk. I would find some way to leave the house since that's where you go back to bed. If it is too cold to walk outside, go to a mall and walk around (just don't buy snacks). Oaky, here's mine. If you plan to go back home, write yourself…
  • 1. What was your starting weight and height? 5'4" and 177 pounds 2. What is your current weight/goal weight? 139 pounds. I lost 38 pounds. I am in the "normal" range for a woman my height. I don't really have a goal weight. 3. How long did it take you to reach your goal? About 4.5 to 5 months. I mostly did it by changing…
  • I'm a vegetarian and always way over in iron. I take a multivitamin for the B and D vitamins, but it also has iron. I also eat this food with iron: Fortified oatmeal (calories, maybe 100-200 for a serving of plain oatmeal) Lentils and other beans (depends on the serving size, 200+ calories, but they also have protein and…
  • You're wonderful. I love your post. Have an awesome day!
  • This is your answer. Run!
  • Oatmeal is a whole grain. It's one of the most nutritious foods around. I started eating it for breakfast about 8 months ago as part of a plan to reduce my horrendous cholesterol level, which is normal now for several reasons. Enjoy your oatmeal in peace and get your nutritional info somewhere else.
  • People lose weight by calories only. The protein etc. distribution is to have better nutrition and become healthier, a different issue. BUT you will be less hungry if you increase your protein.
  • Sometimes I drink a cup of Silk protein nutmilk with my oatmeal or as a snack. I also drink it for the vitamin D. One cup has 10 G protein and 4 carbs, 2 of which are fiber. It does have 130 calories. Tofu also has protein and low carbs. Carbs are essential for our bodies to function. People with diabetes and some other…
  • About the digestive problems: your body is probably not used to the increased fiber if you are eating more beans, legumes, and vegetables. You might have an intolerance for some foods, too. I like Silk's protein nutmilk and cashew milk, but I can't drink soy milk (it upsets my stomach). I can eat tofu, though, another form…
  • Agree with this. My quick favorites are oatmeal with almonds and walnuts and 8 oz of protein nutmilk.
  • http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/08/01/health-risks-packaged-greens/2610153/ To the OP: This article is several years old, but still partly answers your question. It points out how bacterial contamination is higher in packaged greens. Overall, it's a small risk and the industry has taken safety steps over the…
  • Exercise makes tiny tears in your muscles. Your body will retain fluid to heal the tears. That's part of the process of developing muscle. I would give it a few weeks. Best of luck.
  • Since you're in the medical field, you can talk to people directly. You're not at a social event where you need to mind your own business or be polite. Health is your job. You might save somebody's life. Hearing the facts in the doctor's office is often what people need to wake up. That's what helped me. My doctor told me…
  • I've started taking a multivitamin for the vitamin D. Low vitamin D is linked to colon cancer. I had a medical exam that caught a problem before it turned into cancer, so I'm very lucky. I have a lifelong habit of not eating dairy. I still don't want dairy, but I can get the same vitamins in fortified plant milk (I like…
  • Someone flagged me, I'm not sure why, so I will edit my post out.
  • Here's what I do. I'm a widow, live alone, and had to curb the restaurant eating so I could control my food and improve my health. I don't care for cooking and don't make recipes. My meals have to be simple or I won't make them at home. (1) Buy some Tupperware or similar plastic containers. You can get them in most grocery…
