I deadflift using Sabos because of the flat sole, good grip and stability for your ankles. If you aren't going to compete, I would just lift without shoes

Thank you! I had a great meet!!

Please feel free to add me. I lift 5x/week, 60 years old, powerlifting competitor and just competed in my 10th meet last Saturday. I started seeing changes within a couple months of lifting. My weight got down to 113 lbs. but I wasn't getting very strong, bulked for over 18 months and now I'm on a maintenance diet. I plan…

I just noticed my name was mentioned here about a week ago lol. I just finished deloading today and I'm getting ready for my 10th powerlifting meet Saturday! I'm coming off a shoulder injury and got a 5 lb. PB in squats (255 lbs), a 10lb. gym PR in deadlifting (310) and my bench form is much better this 16 week training…

I'm only 5' and just turned 60 a couple days ago. I have a large frame and very broad shoulders and lift heavy weights. Even when I was lighter (profile pic), my shoulders looked broad. I compete in powerlifting so at least they are good for something lol

Heavy sets of squats and leg accessories

I didn't gain any weight. I rarely do now around the holidays. What works for me is to eat lots of protein, low carb/fat throughout the day, then I can indulge and rarely gain any weight, sometimes lose a little. The next day I drink a gallon of water. I had lots of cookies on Christmas Eve and chocolates last night, got…

My fav is quesadillas! I place a flour tortilla on a grill pan, top with some cheese, add chicken and veggies, top with another tortilla and turn and grill on the other side. I also make soup and chicken salad.

I only do a little cardio (15 min) for heart health after lifting. I lift 5x/week, follow strict programming and compete a few times a year so I never do too much cardio

The only diet advice I would ever get is from a Registered Dietitian. People who "claim" to be Nutritionists or have "diet expertise" should never be allowed to sell people diets. I can't tell you how many bios I've seen on IG with people claiming to be so knowledgeable about dieting clients just because it worked for them

You have to always put the scale on a tile or wood floor, etc. never carpet. When I was first dieting I thought I weighed 160 lbs., but found out some months later, I actually started out 166 lbs  because my new scale and another scale said my old scale was off by 6 lbs.
-
Exactly 1 lb but my weight fluctuates daily. I had turkey breast, gravy, stuffing and carrots (skipped the mashed potatoes and cranberry). No dessert but I did treat myself to some gummy worms

Never compare yourself to others! Just take it slow and don't rush anything. I went from being completely sedentary, gaining 75 lbs. in 12 years to almost all cardio 7 days/week, going to the gym 2x/day, then becoming a competitive powerlifter. I really wish I would have slowed down and gone at a much slower pace because…

What kind of scale do you own? If it's a digital one and you move it around each time you weigh yourself, it needs to be calibrated. Some will calibrate themselves, others you have to step on it, then immediately step off and wait for the scale to read 0
-
This is the scale I have and it seems to be very accurate. It has an "athlete" and regular mode. It will also calibrates whenever you move the scale. Never put a scale on carpet - it needs to be on a flat surface. The only downside to that scale is you have to download the app otherwise you will only get your weight and…

I have a C2 rower. Unfortunately, it's just sitting in my living room collecting dust  I used a rower in the gym when I first started my weight loss journey, bought one so I didn't have to drive to the gym just to use it, then I became interested in competitive powerlifting and rarely use the rower now
-
Yes, definitely! When I started my weight loss journey and joined a gym, nobody talked to me or even looked at me. As I started to lose weight and it was noticeable, other members started talking to me. I get a lot of men who come up to me and compliment me about my muscular legs lol

Never in a million years did I think I would be lifting weights AND competing in powerlifting comps at my age and I'll be 60 next year! I started out working with a trainer using machines and dumbbells when I was 56. I'm probably one of the most uncoordinated people ever too lol. I progressed to deadlifts, then squats and…

I came back from a rotator cuff injury back in 2016 then injured it again last week. I mostly lift so I had to completely stop benching for 3 months. I would have come back much earlier had I been on a proper diet of more than 1200 calories. I had a terrible diet coach back then who gave me awful advice. Anyway, perhaps…

I never do cheat meals. If I plan on going out to dinner, I'll eat high protein/low carb/low fat meals during the day so I can use the remaining macros to have dinner out

Never and life insurance is a waste of money. Who knows what they will do with your info

5' I went from 185-113. When I hit my lowest weight, I was 57 years old.

It's not always as simple as CICO, if you suffer from insomnia and/or lots of stress (both for me :-1: ) then it makes losing weight a little more challenging. I'm almost 60 and it was easy for me to lose 50+ lbs when I was in my mid-50's because my life was more stress-free and I didn't have to deal with insomnia back…

Yep I was in the same situation and found out I was literally starving myself @1200 calories and I'm only 5'. I did weight training 3-4x/week and very little cardio. It did some damage to my metabolism and took over a year for me to recover. I eventually bulked for over a year and my calories were 2200. I will never, ever…
