• I am shooting for the upper limit of a normal BMI and going from there. I think it is a good idea to get some type of body scan or measurement done so you can see what your body fat percentage is. If I can get to 25% or lower I’d imagine I would get the look and feel I’m after, regardless of the exact scale weight.
• I did fine, but I wouldn't exactly attribute it to my own willpower ;) I had to work all days except Dec 25 and Jan 1, so my routine was not too far off from usual. It is pretty hard to overeat at my work because I am just so busy. It is those idle hands and free time during the holidays that usually get me! I totally…
• I weight almost every day, and it automatically uploads from my scale into FitBit and MFP. I have a Fitbit Aria 2 scale. Once in a while I'll skip the weigh-in in the morning if I really overindulged or ate Pizza or Chinese food the previous day! I've definitely gotten better at disconnecting my emotions from the number on…
• It is so hard to estimate calories because the amount of rice is variable and all the little sauces and fillings can be deceiving. Whenever I try to estimate it is always a ton of calories, so I just try to make sushi a treat to have less than once a month! It helps to start with some sashimi and a seaweed salad, so that I…
• I am still working on it. I lost about 10 lbs, but have been on a plateau for the past 2-3 weeks. Appreciating all of these responses, especially the one who said that the weekend is a break from your job, but not from your calorie goals!
• It sounds like you should be losing on 2100, given your stats. Not to harp the usual mantra here on MFP, but make sure you’re using a good scale and logging accurately. I don’t see why you’d need to cut your calories more with those stats!
• I just quick-added 4,000 calories, and enjoyed my day. I ate a lot and think I'll stay off the scale for a few days just for my mental health ;)
• I have been pretty lax on logging my "bad" days. I'll either just bulk add calories which I think are in the ballpark, or painfully add things close from the database. Some days, I won't add anything. My weight loss had stalled and I know this is why! I am trying to be kind to myself and be proud that I am not gaining, and…
• All-you-can eat sushi! I don't even feel tempted by the fried rolls or ones stuffed with cream cheese, and still I can put away many thousands of calories without batting an eye ;) The dessert (tempura banana with ice cream) doesn't help either!!
• Put a mini fridge in your bedroom where you can keep all your prepped meals!
• My only rule is to not let one “bad day” snowball into a bad week or bad month.
• I know it is hard to log binges, as I have one every so often and cringe with every slice of pizza and pint of beer I have to add. What I have found helps me log those is to mentally tally the calories, try to get close, and then just log it as one big calorie chunk in my "snacks." Then I close the app and run away from my…
• I’m 5’7 but... I honestly can’t really know for sure where I *would* feel best as I haven’t been under ~160 since college. I was lighter in high school but I am an adult woman now so I’d imagine the same weight would look different on me now. I’m pretty strong and athletic (though not graceful) so I would think the upper…
• Everyone has already woo’ed enough and set you straight about the wording of your post, but assuming you just want low-cal beer options.... Sam Adams light isn’t bad, though I can’t find it anywhere lately. Kahana Blonde Ale is tasty at 99 calories, and you get to hold a cool bottle that doesn’t say “light” on it. I also…
• I also try not to think about a goal date too much, or even a goal weight. I just shoot for meeting my calorie goal for 1lb/week loss and aim to hit the gym 4-6 days per week. I know it will happen eventually. Of course I monitor my progress to make sure I am moving in the right direction!
• Me too, though it is kinda overpriced it is super filling and doesn’t feel like I’m being deprived!
• It is normal for your prescription to shift throughout your teens and early 20s. Most people taper off around there, and then from age 40-55 they will slowly become less about to see up close without reading glasses (or, for nearsighted folks, taking off their distance glasses). Once you get into your 60s you’ll develop…
• I have heard of people using resistance bands to do exercises in the office. I just try to go for walks on my lunch break. I make my “lunch” out of small items, pre-prepped and ready so that I can munch at my desk just before/after my break. That way, my full 30 minute lunch break can be spent walking.
• I am so tired of trying to fight back against my habits! My brain has been conditioned to think that a week of “being good” earns me a weekend of “being bad.” My brain interprets moderation as some type of punishment, even when I know logically that it is much better for me! I am trying to rewire my thinking to where there…
• I have a Fitbit Alta HR which I love. It is not so much about getting an estimate on my calories, as it is just a little motivator to move more during the day.
• Always nice to see some active friends for motivation!! 💪🏻😎
•
It can however cause high cortisol, particularly when coupled with high activity. The fluid retention from that can easily mask fat loss.
This. You end up feeling like crap, bloated, low energy, etc even if you may technically be losing body fat. Be kind to yourself, go easy, stay within your calorie goals…
• 5:30am - Wake up, report straight to coffee maker (black coffee FTW!) 5:45am - shower/get ready for work 6:30am - pack and pre-log lunch and snacks 7:00am-3:30pm - work; lunch 11am, light snacks as needed; try to walk for 30 min at lunch 3:30-4:30 - errands/commute home, light snack before gym if needed 4:30-6:30pm - gym…
• It sounds tongue-in-cheek, but exercise is my best distraction! If I go home right after work, I have some downtime before I have to cook dinner and do other chores. Working out fills that idle time where I’d be most tempted to snack!
• Clearly I don’t understand the lingo. I thought she was buying a 5th of booze to bring to a house party or something. I would never condone bringing your own hooch into a place that sells drinks.
• If these are really the friends you want to hang with, maybe bring a pre-mixed container of booze w/no cal mixer. You control the ratio, so you make it as light as you want.
• I used to have fizzy drinks, like Diet Coke or ICE drinks. That, and gum chewing, seemed to help me avoid snacking.
• I bank a little bit so I can have a couple beers on Friday and/or Saturday. I used to unwind with a beer after a stressful workday. Problem is, work is always stressful and it is hard to lose weight drinking 1-2 craft brews every day. I am trying to use exercise as my stress relief after work instead!
• I say enjoy yourself, but don’t go crazy! I went on vacation in April and went completely nuts. eating and drinking everything I could! I think that by giving myself a free pass, I ended up with this “now or never” mentality. “Drink that beer now, because you won’t get any when you’re home!” I ended up having a very hard…
• I used to weigh myself a few times a week, but after about 6 months of quitting logging and just hoping for the best, it was soooooo difficult for me to get back on the scale! I finally did, and I had regained most of what I had lost before. That said, it is a relief now to know where I stand and not have the unknown…
