I can share from experience. The keto diet is not for everyone. It's definitely not for me. I had to abandon ship over at the reddit keto sub because of how militant the people there are about keto, and the lack of acknowledging that it's one of a few diets that may or may not work for people. Keto was horrible for my…

hi haley, what kind of motivational friend are you looking for?

I don't think exercise affects one's BMR as much as people like to think. It's good to build muscle mass, but unless you're putting on many pounds of muscle your BMR will not change much.

IME, a lot of doctor's don't know how to treat PCOS. Their attitudes are rather lackadaisical. Also, a lot of doctors are skeptical of the efficacy of most people's weight loss results. There is a lot of ambivalence in the medical field, IMO.

This will sound dumb, but I recently realized I don't care about losing weight as much as I care about how I *look*. I recently had a physical at the doctor and my results weren't great. Honestly with everything already on my plate, the idea of losing weight is more stressful. I would rather work toward getting a raise at…

That's why I said there might need to be a change in milieu. Unfortunately, if you want to spend time with the people you love, like the spouse or the family, they don't always share the enthusiasm.
-
My husband and family got irritated with me when I was thinner and more active. I hate to break it to you, but healthier and active people seem annoying to everyone else when they want to sit back, relax, and eat most of the time. You may find you have to change your milieu. Weight loss changes things, which is why a lot…

I'm sorry to hear about your unemployment, Cheery. It's nice the employment office is able to get you lined up with short term work fast. On my end, I'm starting my spring semester and recently, a new job. I decided to give myself a couple of weeks before losing weight again. I needed a break from the stress of job…

Does no longer wanting to have a double chin count?

Your husband might think you're losing weight because you want to divorce him. There's research out there that shows a lot of women have done that just before a divorce. My husband used to think the same way years ago when I attempted to lose weight. Yeah, it's kind of sabotaging isn't it? At one hand you want to do it for…

I've never, ever thought that losing a lot of weight in a couple of months is realistic. Nor have I said that, ever. I'm the type of person chastising people who call and complain to me that they didn't lose the 20 pounds they expected after 2 weeks. I recently had a blood test and noticed my triglycerides (can't remember…

I think the doctor doesn't think I can do is successfully and keep it off. She's probably gotten used to seeing me heavy, as I've been seeing her since my late 20's and have been within the same 10 pound range.
-
That's a really good of putting it! I know there can be weeks of no weight loss, and then BAM people lose 5 pounds.
-
I asked my doctor about lowering carbs, and she said it wasn't sustainable and it was "dieting."
-
No, I wasn't "acting extreme." I asked her if losing weight would help my PCOS symptoms, because I did research on body fat and its influence on hormones. She asked me how much weight I thought I needed to lose, and I mentioned the weight I was at before PCOS (and healthier). That's when she told me to be realistic. My…

I wasn't expecting the amount of responses, but it's been helpful. To answer your question-- I was at the doctor's for a visit about PCOS when the nurse told me to be realistic. I had to go to a specialist, because as much as I do like my general practitioner, she seems to have no clue about PCOS and has never addressed it…

My goal isn't so much weight-- I want to get rid of the jiggle on my belly. All of it. My goals are up in the air right now, and I'm probably not the best person to ask. I spent a lot of time looking for jobs and applying. Losing weight isn't a huge priority (pardon the pun). I would suggest focusing on body composition.…

Life seems to be getting in the way of losing weight for me. I said before that I'd rather good high grades-- right now I am on track to get a 4.0 this term (although it's still early). I could graduate with a 3.9. Yeah, I am kind of a perfectionist but it seems like I can only be a perfectionist with one thing at a time.…

Your comment about the imaginary muscles made me giggle. LOL

The best thing to do is estimate portion sizes. If you're abroad and the food served isn't what you want, look at the serving spoon and compare it to the palm of your hand. Be honest with your eyeballing and only take what's the size of your palm. Load up on the available vegetables and fruit. thechiopodist's suggestion to…

One thing that kind of irks me is a lot of people talk about how they lose weight and end up with washboard abs and tight figures without ever exercising. If I did that, I'd be smaller...and flabby. Without exercise as a supplement, I look chunky AF. It's sort of unfair.

What kind of buddies are you looking for? I ask because some people are okay with someone liking their posts or food diary. Other people want to check in once a week and chat. I'd be game but I'm more of the personable type, if that's okay with you :)

I'm not new to weight loss. It's harder than before because it feels like there's more to juggle. Right now, I'm tossing around the idea of whether I can graduate with a 3.7, or lose 37 lbs lol. I feel like no matter how much prep I do to lose weight, how much planning, scheduling, I will always choose getting stellar…
