  • I think you might have missed my point. The point is, just because you are in an overweight BMI doesn't mean you have more weight to lose, and just because you're normal BMI doesn't mean the weight you are carrying is a healthy fat to lean mass ratio. BMI is basically the worst way to measure any one person's health. It…
  • We both did it twice and it was accurate.
  • Do a Bod Pod or hydrostatic body fat testing or another reliable way to figure out your body fat %. Otherwise you and everyone else here are just guessing at what your ideal weight is. For example, at an overweight BMI I had 28% body fat. That's healthy and normal for a woman even though BMI said I was too heavy. I would…
  • Who is Priti Patel and how is she relevant? I don't get the joke.
  • I only lose weight once a month, and the rest of the month I have wild fluctuations. I started at 175ish and my lowest recorded weight in the past month was 169, but this morning I was 173. That doesn't mean I only lost two lbs. I don't actually know how much I lost, and that's fine. All I know is the line is trending…
  • My first week was a little weird. I tried not to lose weight the entire first month I was back on MFP. I just wanted to get in the habit of tracking what I ate/my activity because it's a weird thing to get used to. I have lost weight too fast in the past and ended up gaining a lot back as a result. I wanted to do it right…
  • Nutrition matters when wanting to get healthier. Get healthier doesn't necessarily mean lose weight. Lose weight doesn't necessarily mean get healthier. Simply touting CICO is overly simplistic. It can be detrimental for many of us who don't understand the ins and outs of nutrition. Your body needs protein, fats, vitamins,…
  • Welcome, I was at my wits end with my joints and pain as well when I started the journey. I have kept 50 lbs off for several years but I am still overweight and would like to now shed the last 20 lbs. Just keep in mind that every little loss counts as a win 💐
  • Welcome and I'll add you as a friend! My diary is open. We have similar heights and goal weights too though I have a little further to go than you 😄
  • I have deactivated Facebook and I find that I put more effort into keeping in contact with the people who matter in my life. The people who care about me still call, text, send emails and letters and packages for special occasions. In my opinion I have better, more thoughtful, fuller relationships now. Facebook created a…
  • I lost 53 lbs without doing any exercise, pre-covid. During covid I've been exercising more than I have since my 20s and I'm finally in the right headspace to lose the last 20 lbs (thanks to coronavirus actually) I've never been to a gym and have been thin and fit most of my life so gyms being closed have no relation to…
  • You need a recomposition of your body composition (muscle vs fat). You need to lift heavy weights and eat at maintenance, you do not need to lose pounds. That is the only way you will get the waist-hip ratio you desire and maintain your own health in the process.
  • I don't think I ever gave up per say, it was more that other things in life started to take precedence over paying attention to what I was eating in combination with an overuse injury that made it very difficult to burn calories with exercise, so over the course of 12-15 weeks, 20 lbs came back on pretty swiftly and I was…
  • I eat a lot of frozen fruit, and I weigh it frozen. I make sure to remove any large chunks of ice though.
  • I'm sorry you've had to suffer this type of discrimination! While it's true that injuries will occur more often if you're overweight, your doctor should have treated your injury like any other patient *and then* maybe said, now lose some weight so it doesn't get worse. Sounds like you have an awful doctor. Get a doctor who…
  • Yeah, I never considered a CSA box to be adventurous but I guess it might be weird for people who are used to all of their food in packages. There will be cakes of dirt on it that you have to wash off, and there will be bugs. I mean, at least I know my farm picks it right out of the ground and throws it into the box. No…
  • If you can get a CSA box in your area, that's what I'd recommend. I'm not a big veggie person either. The first time I got CSA every week I couldn't finish all the veggies before the next box was coming, but after a couple of months I learned a ton of new recipes and eat way better as a result. Just Google CSA and your…
  • Great question. As someone who has gone from obese to normal weight to obese again, I am a cautionary tale, and I'm approaching my weight loss TOTALLY different this time. When I lost the weight, and got extremely close to a normal weight for my height, I lost it at a rate of 1.5 lbs per week. This was way. Too. Fast. My…
  • Congratulations! I like the idea of thinking about being in remission. I think I will make sure to think of it in that way from now on :)
  • When I was 200+ lbs and borderline diabetic it was the only diet that balanced my hormones enough to allow me to lose weight. I was actually put on it by a Doctor who said this isn't for life, but just to heal my body to the point that I could get to a healthy weight *eventually* and introduce back other foods. It wasn't…
  • I'd say maybe your calories are slightly low actually. I'm 37 yrs, 5'4" 170 lbs and I just walk ~2-3 miles a day for exercise and have a very sedentary desk job. I literally don't move a muscle (okay, maybe not *literally* 😂) for 8-10 hours a day. I've been losing weight at 1800 calories a day.
  • I need to come back to this thread every time I get discouraged!
  • For sure. Stress can make you literally physically ill or kill you! So it can absolutely make you fat. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2727271/
  • Me! 125-140 lbs 1998 - 2015ish 200 lbs August 2017 148 lbs April 2018 174 lbs May 2020 I lost 52 lbs in 8 months. For me, losing more than 1.5 lb a week over that period of time was too fast for my body. I haven't changed my diet but slowed my exercise because I sustained an overuse injury, and the lbs crept back. My…
