  • @lporter Thanks! The worst part is that it is finally nice weather... warm but not humid yet, and I just want to enjoy it! Hope you get a good bit of running in soon!
  • Well this week is a disaster :D I ran ok on Wednesday, then went to run after work yesterday (after my knee felt fine at work all day). I left my KT tape on and got about 2/3 of a mile down the road when my left calf gave me a little scare. A tiny, tiny pop -- which was like 10% of what it felt like when I tore my right…
  • The weather is finally beautiful and feeling like spring...... and now my knee is dumb! Ugh. Did 5.7 miles out of a goal 5-7, so it counts, but wish it'd felt better. I did it without KT tape, and it felt about 80% ok. I iced it again when I got home and then taped it up and again, immediate relief with the KT tape. So I…
  • So... my Sunday run went great, and then I sat on the couch cross-legged watching Legally Blonde that night and tweaked my knee. Just a little bit. A weird discomfort, felt like it needed to pop. It was still there when I got up on Monday morning, but it felt better by the time I got off work and met a friend to run. But…
  • 18 mile workout is DONE! I meant to do it as a progression, but scrapped it in favor of alternating marathon and half-marathon paces because after 3 peak weeks, my legs were just like, "We are NOT running a 7 minute mile, you dummy." So I did 3 miles to warm up, 4 at MP, 1 easy, 3 at HMP, 1 easy, 2 at MP, 1 easy, 1 at HMP,…
  • 4 easy miles on the treadmill after work today. I was supposed to run 9 today, but I just did not want to get out of bed when my alarm went off at 6 am. I figure that 9 hours on my feet working and then 4 miles on the treadmill ~14 hours before my long run is equal to 9 morning miles........ maybe? I've got 18 tomorrow,…
  • 10 easy ones today. There were some long and/or steep hills to bookend the run, but then a solid 3.5 miles of totally flat canal path in the middle. HR averaged in the low-mid 140s and I was just cruising. Beat the snow flurries by about 5 minutes, woo hoo! I've got some weird niggles I'm keeping an eye on (and which I…
  • @Sparx_81 I think that how I eat/train is technically intermittent fasting. I usually don't eat breakfast (I do drink 2 cups of coffee each morning though) and instead eat brunch/lunch at 11 am or so, then I eat off and on until 8 or 9 at night. I prefer to eat two larger meals and two snacks/desserts, so this works well…
  • @7lenny7 I am not a fan of the pods on pavement either. Though apparently they have hard pods and soft/responsive pods, and I'd like to try the latter as we only stock the former type in stores unfortunately. As for the changes to the trail shoes, I think since they're still a relatively new company, they're making…
  • So close to 50 for the month!! Had I known, I'd have tacked on an extra quarter mile at the track or something. Darn it! Workout In The Wind Wednesday! It's pretty darn chilly here today (for Virginia). I headed out for my workout at 10:30 am and it was ~28F with a "real feel" of 17F thanks to 15-24 mph winds. Lucky me, I…
  • Went out for round two this evening! A coworker and I braved the group run that meets at our store because 1) it was a whisky + girl scout cookies pairing/tasting night and 2) our On rep was there and we wanted to demo the new shoes we just got in. I liked the whiskey and I liked the cookies (duh) but less a fan of the…
  • True(ish) to my word, I went easy today instead of doing a workout... workout to come tomorrow! I got a two-a-day, once-a-week dog walking gig for the month that I started today so I walked the dog, did a route from that neighborhood, ran errands, took a shower, walked the dog again, and then did run laundry...... before I…
  • 5 easy miles with a coworker after work today. Pace was easy, but HR was surprisingly high (147 whereas last week it was only 135). Yesterday's workout really amped up the fatigue for today's recovery run! I've got 10 miles and a workout on the schedule for tomorrow, but may opt for easy miles tomorrow and a workout either…
  • @7lenny7 I saved your race report for my Monday morning coffee read, and wow! What a race!! That snow/mud combo would totally do me in; I'm a total baby when my legs are slipping and sliding all over the place. Way to tough it out! Plus Kody sounds like the ultimate trail dog. He's gonna have his own trail community fan…
  • I was supposed to do 8 miles yesterday, but I prioritized sleep > running yesterday morning and then social time with coworkers after work yesterday evening. Which I justified because to close out Feb/start March I ran 8 days in a row, covering 75 miles, so a rest day seemed 100% acceptable. This morning I procrastinated…
  • @amymoreorless I used the Trail Run Project to find the trail I did on Wednesday. It was marked as "84% runnable" and a blue square I think. I ended up hiking 90% of it. Definitely scout out photos of the trail if possible to see what the terrain actually looks like :D But I love that the TRP has an app, so you can make…
  • Looks like we're off to a good start for March. Four pages in already! I was supposed to do a 10 mile tempo workout today, but I forgot and plotted a fun hilly route instead. So I threw in two fast miles at the end of the run... I figure it counts because my legs were fatigued from the massive hills I tackled, right? Super…
  • Mileage goal... 200 again I guess? I've got a race in late March (finally, racing!!!!!) but a few more peak weeks before that. We'll see how far I get, I suppose!
  • Easy little run after work today to round off February. All the little .01s added up on Garmin and Strava to 201 after today's jaunt. Kept it nice and easy, HR averaged 136. Just hoping now for the just-above-freezing-temp rain holds off tonight/tomorrow so I can get my planned 10 miles in tomorrow and get March started on…
  • 10 miles easy on the schedule today! Just need 4 more miles tomorrow to get a round 200 for February, woo hoo! Run today was breezy, chilly, cloudy. I picked up the pace the last mile and a half just to warm up a bit running into a headwind. Quads were a bit sore from the 1500 ft of gain I racked up yesterday, but that…
  • I was itching to drive somewhere fun for a longer run today, and I wound up going to Harper's Ferry, WV (about 60-70 mins from where I am in Virginia) to run a super steep hilly trail there. I'd wanted to go to Shenandoah but a bunch of it is closed due to the ice/wind storms we've had recently. I had gone to run hills,…
  • 5 easy recovery miles tonight! I ran after work with a coworker and we took it nice and easy (avg HR 135) and chatted the whole way. It was really nice to run with company, and her regular pace was spot on with my recovery pace, so it was a really great match. My legs were fatigued but not unbearably so from the long miles…
  • The Sunday long run is in the books! 20 miles was a heckuva lot of miles to run after Friday and Saturday's mileage. But that was the point! The fatigue was real during this one, but I still managed to run my fastest 20 mile long run ever; the next closest time was from 2016 when I was the fittest I've been. I ran on the…
  • 8 easy miles today. I wanted to do 10, but there was no way I was doing 100 minutes before work so I cut back to 80. Felt ok, legs had about 50% energy as they had yesterday, but that's what recovery runs are for, right? February miles: 2/1: 10.5 miles 2/2: 8 miles 2/3: 16.2 miles 2/4: 3.3 miles 2/5: 10 miles 2/6: 7 miles…
  • 12 miles of hills today. I went back to this soul crusher of a hill that I ran for the first time a month ago. It's 1.05 miles long, 220 ft of elevation gain, average grade of 4% but is 15.5% grade at its steepest. A month ago I trudged up it in 9:58 (a 9:28 pace) and today I went back and vowed to best myself. And then I…
  • Rest day! Thanks to everyone who gave a vote of confidence re: the photo challenge! I'll let you know Monday if I win! :) February miles: 2/1: 10.5 miles 2/2: 8 miles 2/3: 16.2 miles 2/4: 3.3 miles 2/5: 10 miles 2/6: 7 miles 2/7: Rest day 2/8: 18.2 miles 2/9: 10.2 miles 2/10: 2.3 miles 2/11: 5 miles 2/12: Rest 2/13: Rest…
  • It's a snow day!!! Everything is closed -- including my store -- so I got to sleep in and do a snowy run after some breakfast + coffee. Our company decided to do a hashtag challenge to get us out and about in the snow, and whoever has the best story/post on Instagram gets a gift card at our staff party on Sunday. So I ran…
  • Last I posted, I said I was going to run 6-12 miles on Sunday. Wound up running zero miles because I was so flipping tired. So my cutback ended up being a super, duper cutback week. Whoops. Yesterday I worked a long holiday shift at work and then ran after that: 5 easy, kept HR nice and low and effort conservative. Today…
  • @ariceroni That's so exciting! The winters are so much better here B) Hit me up and I can definitely get you hooked up with some good VA/MD/DC running!
