Yes. My daughter picked him from the pound and he purred for 2 weeks. He is the loudest purrer. Hes the only one so far to warm up to the kitten, he also thinks hes a dog. He leads the car in as you come in the drive. He bonded with a dog we had and would even follow the kids to school. If you do yard work, hes with you every step, like a dog. Hes a picky eater too. Thanks again all for the hugs and concern about my back. Yesterday morning was horrible again. I slept pretty well but when trying to get up my back seized really badly. I managed to go to the doctor's office in the afternoon and told the nurse practitioner that I was terrified to lie down ever again because of how much it hurt to get up. I got a prescription for a course of steroids and for PT. I think the steroids are doing their thing because I was much improved this morning and was able to get out of bed without screaming. I'm planning to go to work for a while today and hopefully I can get some PT appointments set up. I know the PT's have the good stuff with heat and electrical stimulation and all that.
I'm really sad about having to miss this Sunday's half marathon. As much as I dreaded running this one because of the weather and not feeling in the best condition, now that I won't be able to I'm disappointed. It also means I already won't meet my goal of doing a race every month of the year. Kind of silly to be hung up on that but hey, the steroids are making me emotional.
@girlinahat I'm sorry you are not feeling well. I can really relate to both the feeling ill without a diagnosis and the depression. So many people are going through things we don't ever know about behind their "not depressed enough" faces - it's dismissive to say something like that. Hugs to you.13 -
Hi guys!! I’ve been MIA for a bit... but I have bling photos to share

@samthepanda - ouch - sorry about the fall. Hope the scrapes heal quickly!
@PastorVincent - Fred and George have inspired me that I need to get some of their siblings in my office!
5 slow miles, working on keeping HR down. Not succeeding very well with that, need to s l o w d o w n.
But I enjoyed it anyway. At least there was no burning on bottom of feet.
I realized that I have gotten a little lackadaisical regarding my safety on my early morning runs so now I have a new pepper spray, alarm and music not so loud. (I use the bonz type of headphones). This all came about because of that runner getting attacked by the mountain lion in CO and various other stories I keep reading. (Yesterday read this one, which is a very old story and basically an ad for runAngel -- https://runangel.com/blogs/news/real-lives-real-stories-dave-garbot). I've been running in my neighborhood for 5 years at the same time and I know every car that leaves and arrives in my neighborhood between 4:30-5:30am.
Of all the odd things, today -- my first day of renewed heightened awareness -- there was a strange old truck sitting in front of a house, motor running. (Don't worry, nothing happened!) So I ran onto the sidewalk (away from truck) and shined my light into the truck -- I usually do this to both alert the driver I am there and to add some type of authority - don't F with me! Then a person comes running out of the house and hops in the truck. This is a house that has two adult children, probably in their early 30s, that have moved in and out many times over the last 10 years, been in trouble with the police and not someone you would hire to watch your pets. So I assume one of them must have moved back home and is getting a ride to work. Add that to my list of people coming and going during my run.

It's been a tough couple of weeks.
I'm getting slammed at work, often working very late and on weekends to meet project deadlines. I don't think there will be any reprieve until late March. It's just crazy and it's affecting my running!
In way that's been good though because a bit of pain has popped up with my foot. Training was going great and I felt like it was all coming back to me quickly. Two weekends ago I had a 3 hour trail run in fresh snow over uneven packed snow, which was a heck of a workout for the tendons in my foot and the return pain to my tendon repair area was the result. This was not enough pain to be super concerned about, but enough that I felt my recovery progress took a step backwards.
I took 5 days off from running, then went on a 15 mile road run last Saturday. That went great for the first 12 miles, then I could feel some pain again for the last 3. I skipped my Sunday long run and by the end of the day the pain was pretty much gone. I felt like I could run Monday but I took a page out of @MobyCarp 's playbook and took another rest day to be cautious.
I finally got out to run last night. You'd think I'd be chompin' at the bit to get out but it was a mental struggle. I think the pressure and stress of work has my more tired than usual and when I get home I don't want to do anything. I sat down and decided to take a 15 minute nap before running but Kody wasn't having it. He rested his head on my lap and I could hear his tail wagging back and forth on the carpet. I open one eye to see him looking at me with hopeful eyes. Fine, let's go. I think it took me 90 minutes to finally get my butt out the door, but I did get it out there.
I want to get one more run in before my race this weekend so that will have to be tonight. We have 6 to 9 inches of snow coming down now so it should be a beautiful run.
Tomorrow will be spent packing, hoping to get an early start on my drive Friday. The forecast has changed for the race. It will be warmer..mid to upper 40's F, but wetter. Light rain over night before the race getting the course good and soupy, then it eases off for the first 2 or 3 hours of the race, then coming down heavy after that with thunderstorms possible. One forecast calls for an inch of rain, the other just a half inch. It should be a fun day!

At this point in my life it's most helpful to me to think of it as a basic medical issue, like diabetes or a blood disorder - it's a part of me but it doesn't define me, it's manageable with treatment, and the fact that I sometimes need to compensate for it has nothing to do with my work ethic or moral fabric or anything like that.10 -

I teach high school -- 20 years ago there would be 0-1 students that would be in one of my classes with depression/anxiety. The number has been increasing every year. It breaks my heart when I learn of another student with depression. Sometimes I learn through the guidance counselors telling me, sometimes the parents will request a meeting and other times it is because a student is hospitalized. Sometimes I never find out because the meds work and there is no need to tell the teacher I guess. It is even more common in college.
Hugs to all of you!4 -

Yes. My daughter picked him from the pound and he purred for 2 weeks. He is the loudest purrer. Hes the only one so far to warm up to the kitten, he also thinks hes a dog. I also have an orange cat with a crazy loud purr. Mine also has some doggy traits, like playing fetch. Both of our cats have the same picky food tastes too. So weird!6 -

@PastorVincent - Fred and George have inspired me that I need to get some of their siblings in my office!
Fred is a Peace Lily: https://amzn.to/2DWFw5p
George is a Snake Plant: https://amzn.to/2XcRhgO
Both come from a Garden shop in California that sales their plants on Amazon. Both are supposed to be great at cleaning air, surviving in a cube environment and hard to kill. We will see!6 -
my pet theory is were people depressed a generation ago but it wasn't ok to talk about. i know plenty of older people who still refuse to get help because of stigma.
dyed my hair last night and got a few miles in during the process. i was trying not to sweat so i didn't have added color to my skin. it felt really good.
i'm also loving the weather ahead. it's warming up and some of the ice might dissipate making running outside much more feasible5.5 miles complete. easy.
the dogs have mixed reviews on this year's snow fallspeed demon. not a huge fan

Badger (my orange cat) can be doggish and has been known to play fetch from time to time, but he's not a picky eater at all! I had to restrict his food several years ago after he topped 16 pounds and he's still grouchy about it even if his weight has been stable at 12.5-ish for ages now.3 -

yes, i think of it as a physical issue. like a faulty thyroid. my brain doesn't make the right amount of chemicals to help me function at "normal" levels.

6-30 Strides for Starfish 5k7 -
@PastorVincent I love Fred and George! I have both those plants but the sizes are reversed Small peace lily, large snake plant.
I'm really not feeling working out this week but after missing Monday due to tiredness (poor sleep the night before) I wouldn't let myself skip Tuesday. But I did something different and short. 30 min total on the treadmill including warm up and cool down and I did three 5 min run intervals with three 2 min uphill walk "breaks" and then a 2 min faster run at the end.7 -
Huge hugs going out to all of you brave and courageous people fighting depression/anxiety/mental health issues. My daughter has major anxiety issues and almost cost her college career. But she fought through it, and with some trial and error, got on some good meds. After a couple years, she met someone and is slowly took herself off of the meds. She is doing great now, but I always am fearful for what could potentially happen.
In other news... my email inbox this morning contained an amazon suggestion for a new book called "Rise of the Goblin King" by some guy named Vincent Trigili. Might just have to check that out17 -
@martaindale @Elise4270 here’s my orange cat(and his sister). What is with the orange cats and the purring like a motorboat? And also, sometimes I swear he’s a dog, not a cat. He literally loves water and baths. I’ll turn the faucet on and he’ll hop up there and stick his head directly under it like he’s taking a shower. They’re both indoor cats but they’re obsessed with going outside and playing fetch.

I am just really impressed they were flipped MAILED to me from 3,000 miles away and they arrived apparently healthy and strong. Almost no dirt spillage even. I just unwrapped them, gave them some water and took the picture.

It's a snow day!!!
Everything is closed -- including my store -- so I got to sleep in and do a snowy run after some breakfast + coffee. Our company decided to do a hashtag challenge to get us out and about in the snow, and whoever has the best story/post on Instagram gets a gift card at our staff party on Sunday. So I ran down to the Marine Corps war memorial in my Marine Corps Marathon jacket and got some good self-timer pics down there to put my name in the hat. (You can check out all our contributions with the #pacerssnowday hashtag on instagram if you are so inclined!) Fingers crossed this snow day winds up being extra lucrative come Sunday!

Hey all. Re depressiin/anxiety/MI. I suffered anxiety for YEARS and never knew it. It was this underlying feeling that the world was about to implode at any moment. Anytime my boss wanted to talk to me, my heart would race, my stomach would drop and I would panic (most of the time it was just a how are you doing chat, very rarely something was actually wrong). I thought this was normal.
It all came to head a couple of years ago after the birth of my second child. My anxiety got worse to where any disagreement with hubby I would be paranoid he was going to leave us. I finally got some counselling and had some major breakthroughs. This is also the same time I got healthy, lost weight and started running.
I'm lucky my anxiety wasn't bad enough to need meds, and I remember clearly those feelings. I'm much happier and more confident now and for me counselling was enough. I still get moments but I know how to handle them and where to go to get help. I'm also pretty open about it because I want to help break the stigma. Most people are stunned that I suffered.my outward appearance was masking the anxiety so well.
On a different note, I ran 6k today!!! It felt awesome. My goal is 1000k... I've done 71 so that's 29k in 7 days... I can do that. Though to be completely honest that's including some walks, as they were walks for exercise im definitely counting them.13 -

This was her reply
'I needed a lot of structure - a race, a training plan, a group like this. Sadly, the book might make it look a bit too easy because I think I was hypomanic a bit of the time. Now, especially with the busyness of book preorder promotion, I've had to pull way back. No races scheduled. I still go to my group, but wow some days it's nearly impossible to get going. I have to let myself start over, let myself be slow as molasses, let myself be "bad" and "a loser" and all those other names I call myself. I have to be a beginner and that's okay. Once I get started, I remember my competence. I remember my fitness (that isn't nearly as lost as my mind tells me it is). I remember how good running feels. My mind really is trying to kill me - still.'8 -

When I got back from the gym and finished shoveling (nice cool down, right?) I had an email from my law firm saying they are closing the office early today. I suppose since I work from home it doesn't apply to me, but I sure like the idea of a nap! We've gotten just over 8 inches today and they're predicting another major system this weekend. Sigh.3 -
So my youngest turned 3 today, but the poor thing has a rotten cold which meant he had to have steroids last night as he developed croup! So I was up until 1.30am and back up again at 6.... So I ran after my husband got home from work instead of my usual 6am run!!
But I went and I did another 6km! In quite a decent time too! I actually made noise when I passed the 5km mark at 39 min 59 seconds!
I'm using "first day to 5k" program on www.podrunner.com
2nd - 10.44km (w4, w3, w2)
3rd - 10.31km (w4, w3, w2)
4th - 1.84 km (short due to leggings being too big!)
5th - 3.84km (w4)
6th - 4.08km (w4)
7th - 4.11km (w4)
8th - 4.18km (w4)
9th - 11.12km (w4, w3, w2)
10th - 11.18km (w5-1, w4, we)
11th - 4.08km (w5 d1)
12th - took the morning off... After 10 days straight my body needed a rest!
13th - 4.15km (w5 d1)
14th - 4.00km (w5 d1)
15th- 4.18km (w5 d1)
16th - rest (taking my son to fortnite competition!)
17th - 13.35km (w5d2, w5d1, w4 & a bit of w3!)
18th - 4.11km (w5d1)
19th - 4.35km (w5d2)
20th - 5.97km (w5d2, part of w5d1)
Total so far - 105.3 km/ 161.93km
https://www.facebook.com/donate/2069247306698727/?fundraiser_source=external_url
Planning on a 10km on 11th may, trying to aim for <75 mins. (Best so far was 1 18 so 3 mins off is doable right?)
