Morning all!
Yesterday was a non running day. Instead hubby and I took our girls to some lakes about an hr drive away. We had a blast swimming, kayaking and playing.
I also had to bake a cake with my new mixer (of course!) so made a banana cake - similar to banana bread but mister and more cake like than bread.
It's Sunday today and I'm taking another rest day. All the stretching and massage seems to have helped and my shin splints appear to have started to resolve. 8m going to have another rest today then next week start slowly building again. I have a 19k in a month I'm going to do, plenty of time to get back up there before then.8 -
@Elise4270 I was also going to suggest Umbrella Academy. It was surprisingly good.
@PastorVincent for president!!
Feeling sluggish, both knees hurting, and 22mph sustained wind, I gave myself permission to ignore pace and stride length today. Ended up finally hitting 13 miles. Hadn't done that in over a month.

W6D3 completed. Dog didn't go out with me on the last run because she wasn't feeling well, so the dog was very excited to go on this run. She was so excited that she took off pretty fast when we first started running and I let her set the pace; however, the dog's pace was faster than I usually run so after about the first 5 minutes of running my calves and shins were hurting. So, I slowed the dog down, made adjustments, and for the last 10 minutes of the run the run was much easier and my legs felt better.
3/1--W6D1
3/4--W6D2
3/8--W6D3
Races:
3/24--Mercer Island 5k
6/8--Fall City Day Run 10k
7/6--Bellingham Road Race

@HonuNui - the Ti Leaf lei is gorgeous!
Epic falls - my most embarrassing was coming through the gate at the parking lot end of the (paved) trail near me. I have no idea what happened, what I tripped on (apparently nothing or my own feet). Next thing I know I was flying ending on the ground with torn capris (my favorite), bloodied knees, hands and elbows and Hobbes licking my face with concern. Oh and I forgot to mention, the parking lot was full of cyclists all staring at me. Notably not a single one came to ask if I was ok. I hobbled to the bathroom to rinse my hands and elbows and then walked the mile home bleeding... no paper towels in the facilities, just air blowers and the toilet paper was useless.@Elise4270 I was also going to suggest Umbrella Academy. It was surprisingly good.
Yup watched them. Russian Doll was also good.0 -

@MobyCarp what great pics and description! That looked freezing but beautiful...
@Avidkeo omg, your cake! Soooo tasty looking!
Gorgeous sunny run today, and I finally dressed appropriately, so that was much improved! I’m looking forward to this weekend and actually racing a 5K for the first time—I have run quite a few, but always with my kids, and have stuck this one. My daughter is also running this one with me but has given me the ok to race it (and let me know she’s happy if I do so she’ll feel freer to walk )
March goal: 60 miles
3/2 6 mi
3/3 cross (easy bike ~10 mi)
3/5 4 mi
3/7 4 mi TM
3/9 6 mi
March total: 20 mi

Upcoming Races
Steel Challange 5k - May 2019
Pittsburgh Marathon - May 2019
Glacier Ridge 50k Trail Race - May 2019
2021 - Disney World Dopey! (if can raise funds)
2019 GOAL: Knock a full hour off my 50k time at Glacier Ridge.4 -
Sorry hopelessly behind again with posts. Missed a couple of days as wasn't feeling well, then life just got in the way. We are away for a couple of days with MIL and weather forecast rubbish so bought a gym pass for a couple of days. Got this morning for a quick session - 3 miles on treadmill in 32 mins! Pleased with that. Total run this month = 9

My son's girlfriend's parents are coming for dinner tonight. What happened to the little kid that was scooping bird seed off the ground and eating it?12

My profession (law) isn’t necessarily that easy to transplant given liscencing requirements, unfortunately, and I’ve lost a lot of my German over the years.4

Yep unfortunately they do tend to grow up, no matter how many bricks you put on them to keep them small! 😁4 -

OK, you guys, after all my worries the Spartan race today was seriously FUN. I can't even believe I did that.
My friend and I nearly bailed out before it started, we were so nervous. Fortunately the rest of our team arrived and we were committed. We got so lucky with the weather - it was sunny and in the 30s, but felt warmer as the sun reflected off the snow. I definitely could have lost a layer and been fine. We started out at the bottom of the ski hill and had to jump over a wall to get to the start line. The snow was soft and deep in a lot of places and it was like running through sand. Well, walking - because there was no way I was running up that whole hill.
Finally we made it to the highest point of the course and then had some trail running heading down, which was kind of treacherous. The running part was a lot slower and a lot more difficult than I anticipated overall. The obstacles were mostly not as bad as I feared, but I won't lie, they were hard. The first wall we came to was the highest and I had to have a bit of a boost to make it over, but all the rest I did myself - including the inverted wall. The first "fail" was the rig where you had to go across on the rings. I made it to ring 2 and immediately slipped off. The gloves were not good and I took them off for anything else requiring grip. I'm not sure I could have made it anyway, but that was a mistake. I also did not manage the rope climb (no surprise there) or the spear throw. I made it a little over half way across for the monkey bars and would have made it all the way but lost momentum at a part where the bars were spaced farther apart. That was the only one that made me mad, because I really thought I could have done it. There were heavy things to carry (a big rock, sandbags, and a bucket full of rocks), a heavy sled to pull, a weight to hoist up on a rope - all of which went fine. Thanks to strength training over the last few months! I really liked the A-frame cargo net climb and another a-frame wooden thing - those were the most fun to do.
We came around a corner and realized we were back close to the start by the ski lodge, but we were not done - which meant we were going back up and down that ski hill. The climb up was rough, then we headed down through the woods and the trail was tough! The snow was either deep and squishy or packed down and super slick. Some of it I slid on my butt and some of it I ran through the soft stuff. It felt very out of control. Finally we came out of the woods and the last part was down hill on an actual ski slope. Most people slid down it - some in full penguin on their bellies head first. I went down on my butt but really picked up some speed! It was pretty fun. Finally we were at the bottom and had to run up a slip wall - you ran halfway and grabbed a rope to pull yourself up the rest. I was pleased to make that on the first try. Then we jogged down to the finish where we had to jump over a line of fire (mostly a symbolic, easy jump - but it messed with your mind a little not wanting to wipe out in the fire). Then we were done!
The team had about 22 people and we ended mostly in two groups. I was in the front group of about 12 of us, and everyone was so supportive. There was quite a bit of time waiting for each other so we'd all catch up and go on to the next thing. I felt like I hung with the pack very well, if not being at the front for most of it (not that this was FAST by any means but I didn't fall back on the hills as much as some others and I powered through the heavy carries pretty well. I think I was the oldest person or close to it so I feel pretty good about that. Loved getting to know some of my team members and having so much fun in the process. It took us about 2 hours 15 minutes to finish with all the stopping and waiting, so the pace was terrible but it was exhausting and challenging the whole time.
After we finished, we waited around for the second group, which included a couple of the trainers who were helping people in the back. Then we changed and had our free beer. It was some local beer I don't remember, all I know is there were two choices of alcohol content and I said gimme all the alcohol so got the higher one. It was not great but it went down fine. If I didn't have to drive home I would have gone for a few more rounds of something (not that beer) but we had to head out as it was already a long day.
My Salomon trail shoes worked perfectly, and my feet were dry despite all that snow! No blisters or anything, but my feet were a bit sore overall. I've got various bruises and a slight sunburn but ended up pretty intact. I survived! I had a blast!

Whoa! That sounds awesome! Congrats!0 -
@katharmonic Well done! Sounds like a lot of work, but fun! Way to go!0

4 easy miles on the treadmill after work today. I was supposed to run 9 today, but I just did not want to get out of bed when my alarm went off at 6 am. I figure that 9 hours on my feet working and then 4 miles on the treadmill ~14 hours before my long run is equal to 9 morning miles........ maybe?
I've got 18 tomorrow, and as a progression workout. It'll be in the 40s and probably raining, so we'll see how it goes!
March miles:
3/1: 10 miles
3/2: Rest day
3/3: 17 miles
3/4: 5 miles
3/5: 6.3 + 3.5 miles
3/6: 8 miles
3/7: Rest day
3/8: 10.5 miles
3/9: 4 miles
March total: 64.3 miles
2019 Races
March 16: Four Courts Four Miler (Goal: Fun!)
March 24: Caesar Rodney Half Marathon (Goal: PR)
April 7: Cherry Blossom 10 Miler (Goal: Sub-75)
April 28: New Jersey Marathon (Goal: BQ)
July 6: Finger Lake Fifties 50k (Goal: Finish)

Race report?
It wasn’t much of a race. It was hot and humid to the max. Highs in the mid 80s and humidity past 90%. The course was so poorly marked that the pacer groups had to backtrack and check the map on their phones.
However, my race entry was half price thanks to the lady I went with. They had mimosas and breakfast tacos at the end. I got new bling and a really thick (aka: hot) long sleeve tech shirt I can wear when it gets cold again... next year.
Not my favorite race but good company and food. Meh....
March Goal Miles 150 / Miles to Date = 54.5 miles
Upcoming Races:
4/6 = Wanderlust Half
5/4 = Wisconsin Marathon (Mittens Challenge Part 1)
5/5 = Kalamazoo Marathon (Mittens Challenge Part 2)
6/15 = Fit Foodie 5k11 -

@katharmonic - that sounds like so much fun!
@amymoreorless - you got it done! Yay! Can't believe it was that hot already! Wow! Where is the obligatory bling/race picture?
It was another beautiful day so I had to get out for another run. It was my 1st back to back running days and my calves were really complaining. Maybe not the best idea but my foot was fine. Interestingly my knee with the torn meniscus started hurting to the point of needing icing when I got home. I did walk even when I needed to in the run intervals a couple of times and DD called towards the end so I walked the last mile home to talk to her.

@PastorVincent you were totally right, it was a blast and the people were awesome. A very good bunch of crazies. Are they usually sliding downhill in the mud or on grass?
Thanks so much to you, @zeesparrow, @shanaber, @Tramboman, @Scott6255, and @HonuNui. I'm thinking today about how much I liked the team aspect of this race and that it wasn't about time - such a big difference from running a half or marathon by myself and being in my own head the whole time, concerned about pace. Might have to rethink some plans and goals for this year! More team events!
@amymoreorless congrats on your half! I can't believe you had such heat and humidity already. I could totally go for some breakfast tacos and mimosas, that sounds so good.
