I don't think it's too widely known in the running crowd. They are one of the sponsors of a local trail race series and I know the RD uses and highly recommends it. He's a beast runner who has won the Arrowhead 135 five times.
I got small sample tube at the race, tried it, and loved it. When looking online to buy a bigger tube I found out it's a local company and I used to work with the two guys who invented the stuff and started the company! 30+ years ago I used to be a pharmacy technician and worked for the a hospital under the Mayo Clinic umbrella. These two guys were pharmacists and developed many topical products for the dermatology department and started this company as a result.

Hydration belt, bought it while training for my first marathon, I had no idea I hated wearing a belt while running. I wore it once and gave it to a friend.
Expensive gear I love: My black Nike running pants, spent $100 on them 10+ years ago, and they are still my go-to running pants.
Cheap gear I love: Kangaroo Pouch, bought it at a packet pickup a couple years ago, it was only $10, folds over on my waistband with a magnet and holds my phone, car key and ID. It's light and just the perfect size!5 -
Question of the month...
Things I love:- Nike rain/wind jacket, bought on sale but still expensive. Had it for years and have been able to rain proof it again so I think it will last forever.
- TigerTail portable roller! Used it all the time when I was traveling so much and now use it home too
- Lucy compression capris and shorts - best pockets ever! Unfortunately they were bought by Northface and they have not kept the styles.
- Skora Running shoes - my absolute favorites but they haven't had stock for over a year now
- Smartwool PhD Run Ultra Light cushion socks. Never had a blister and they have an awesome return policy
- Smith Optics running sunglasses (on sale at REI). I wear them every run, they have never scratched and they fit me perfectly unlike Oakley or Nike that are way too big even in women's.
- Hobbes' Kurgo handsfree leash (less than $20). Been using it pretty much on every run for the last 5 years. Pretty sure it will last another 5 or more.
Not much I can think of here.- All the running shoes I have purchased then discovered after a few runs they were not good for me and not able to return (most bought on sale/clearance but still)
Like others I tend to do my research (apparently not well enough on my shoes but I am always hopeful this 'one' will work for me!) and buy on sale. I also tend to keep the things I buy for a long time and get more than enough use out of them so that offsets the cost if they aren't on sale.
ETA - I have never used Body Glide so have no opinion. Never needed it, never had much if any chafing issues.3 -

I love my knuckle lights! They are easy to turn on and off as needed. This is a great asset when running on the mean suburban streets. .
Plus, I can aim and shine them in the eyes of inattentive drivers acting like *kitten*holes to get their attention. You can’t do that with a head lamp (not easily anyway).

I ran 3.12 miles at lunch today. It felt pretty tough. It was 70F with 17mph winds. I really hate hate wind. I would have liked to run this morning, but the wind was making 44F feel like 35F and I just didn't want to deal with that. Good question! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone says. For me one of the best things I've gotten was a flipbelt. I like it because it does not have any buckles or straps to adjust. It fits snugly around the waist/hips and doesn't really move. (Mine is starting to move some, but I think that is because I'm down ~10 pounds since I got it and I need to go down a size). My phone fits in it nicely even in a case and you can get a bottle that slips in there too (which is another thing I'm glad I got).
I also got a pair of sleeves this year for Christmas and I really like them too. They are perfect for days when I want a jacket, but a jacket would be too much. And they are better for me than a long sleeved shirt because if I get too warm I can just take them off and I find rolling up long sleeved shirts to be annoying, especially if the shirt has snug sleeves.

Sure, at the usual places... Ebay, Walmart and Amazon, among others. After this discussion I went to ebay and found two 13 oz jars for $20 shipped. They expired in January but I'm sure they'll be just fine for my purposes for years to come (and two jars will last years!). You can also find a 2.5 oz tube. I'll be putting what's left of my tube in my drop bag.4 -

Cool will try to remember to search for it. Body Glide was the best I found locally and compared to nipple chaffing... well happy to use most things. But if there is better, I am up to try it.2 -

I've never used it to prevent nipple chafing. For that I just use little bandaids like this

@Elise4270 - Hope the surgery went well. You're right about O2 vs VO2 Max (saturation vs usage), and there are now watches out there that include an O2 sensor. The new Garmin Fenix 5X Plus watch has an oximeter, but it can only take a reading while you stand still. According to their literature, it's useful for helping you determine how your body is acclimating to high altitudes...so, not something I'm going to need any time soon unless I start taking up alpine sports.
This morning was a short run. Temp was in the 50s, so great for running, but a member of the group had an old hamstring issue flare up, so I walked her back to her car while the others went on. At least I'm no longer on call, so I'm free to start running my other routes now that the mileage is kinda getting back up there again.

Thanks ! You are a wealth of information. My phone once had the capability of reading O2 but I thought it was crap since it was always 70-80%. I suppose that could be right if you’ve been moving about. I am no longer on call either. Haha! Hooray! I’m doing fine as long as i don’t move and take meds every 4 hours.9 -
Hello! New here. Excited to see a group of people so supportive of each other! I want to get back into running, not for marthon purposes but for myself and living a healthy lifestyle! I'm looking to start with something I think I can achieve, and that is 25miles. It seems so small, and seeing how most if you are upwards of 100 miles, kudos to you! You are an inspiration!
My first month here was 25 miles. I think I had to count walking miles to make that goal, so keep at it, build slowly, absorb some of the wisdom and experience in this group and you’ll be running hundreds of miles too if that’s your aim! Feel free to ask any and all questions. We try to do monthly questions that are not necessarily running related, but meant to help everyone get aquatinted. So if you have a silly or sincere question, this is the place.6 -

8.2 miles this evening. Was a nice preview to Spring...72F with 16mph wind.
1 week into the month and I am at 27 miles. Looks like I am on track to meet goal this month.8 -

Band aids do not stay on for me. I have considered nip ease but never tried them. Last year I did tape+vasline+cotton balls.

So I ran tonight outside. I was like 20something degrees F - practically summer! LOL
I was able to do the 11 mile route, but I did not attempt the 13 mile one I would have normally done. It would have had several more hills in it. Have to see how I feel in the morning but right now I am still walking around and talking so there is that.12 -

As I predicted, I did take another day off from running today due to a busy schedule and OMG soreness from this week's workouts. I had a PT appointment and she worked on some of it - I wish I could have PT all the time, it's very useful to have someone work on your tight muscles on a regular basis.
I got home to a package containing trail shoes! A little last minute and going against the don't wear anything new on race day, but I plan to wear these for the Spartan race on Saturday. I took them out for a test tromp through the snow with Stella. I also tried out the waterproof socks I had ordered sometime back but hadn't tested yet. Shoe and sock (and Stella) pictures under spoiler - I know @Elise4270 likes the sock photos. Shoes are Salomon Speedcross 4 GTX and socks are Randy Sun Breathable Waterproof skiing/hiking socks. Dog is a staffordshire terrier/mini poodle mix
Verdict is a thumbs up on both the socks and shoes so far! I purposely trudged through deeper snow and walked on icier parts of the trail. Traction seemed great and my feet stayed dry and warm. The socks are a little weird - they are thick because they have some kind of waterproof layer between knitted outer layers. I was worried they would be too thick for my shoes but they were fine and I didn't feel any slipping or rubbing. I'm really excited about the trail shoes, I liked them more than I thought. I plan to put them to use in hiking if nothing else - but maybe I'm about to become a trail runner. Plus, they're purple!
I also did a little Yoga for Tired Legs to end the day. I'm exhausted from this week so I'm calling it done even though it's still Thursday. Tomorrow can just go on without me.11 -

Real Goals: Train well toward Boston. Cut back before St. Patrick’s Day weekend, run the 8K hard, use the half as a training race. Remain uninjured, even if it means cutting back on planned mileage.
Today's notes – Another fairly nice January day. The workout on the training plan for today was warmup, 3 x 3 miles at T with 3 minutes recovery, cool down. That's a case of a workout that is more elite than I am. I never considered trying to run it. I thought about just running a bit over 8 miles easy in the afternoon. Might have done it, if it had stayed sunny; but with overcast skies plus wind, it was psychologically colder than the actual temperature. And there was club practice indoors this evening.
So I got there early. I'm going over various easier workouts in my mind. 2 mile warmup, 2 mile cool down, I want a shade over 8 miles, and I don't feel like working as hard as anything I think of that adds up to 4 miles. So I ran a 3 mile warmup. Coach got there. Told him I wanted something easy. He said, just go run 3 miles at MP, and if that feels good run a 4th mile. It's always good to practice the pace and get it ingrained.
I had never had much success running MP on a track, but I gave it a try. Figuring a target MP of 7:20 per mile, if I target 7:20 for 1600m that works out to 55 seconds per 200m lap. I can work with that. So I set out to run at a specific, controlled pace that wasn't easy but really wasn't very much more effort than easy. The control is tricky.
I got into a groove. Yes, I had to adjust my pace often for reality. But I lapped the watch every 1600m, and brought the 1600s in at 7:19, 7:16, 7:16, and 7:17. Then I ran another 800 in 3:40. Coach said I was like a machine.
Took a break before running a one mile cool down, because if I ran continually into the cool down I'd likely just edge right back up to MP. Things felt good, and I felt very much in control. This is good.
The difference between easy and MP? Warmup, average HR 124, max 130. 7200m MP, average HR 133, max 139. Cool down, average HR 122, max 128. It's really nice having a better chest strap for the HRM so I can see accurate HR for the entire workout. It's even nicer knowing I controlled the run to not run harder than I was supposed to.
In other news, I got an email ad for one of the races I wanted to run anyway. Went online to check what was open, and filled out my race calendar for June. There will be other races to run from July to December, but the first half of 2019 is filled now.

7 - 5 miles. Reasons why my run was awesome tonight:
1. It rained all day, except when I was running. That never happens to me, it's usually the exact opposite!
2. I think I'm completely healed from the cronic Achilles tendonits I had almost all of last year. 🎉
3. The sunset at the top of Powell Butte during my run was beautiful!
