Workout B today -- Squats - 5x5 @ 60 lbs - These feel good. I'm trying to make sure I'm getting low low low -- which means I'm probably only just getting to parallel, even though it feels different in my head. Also concentrating on engaging my glutes and hamstrings instead of my quads -- seems to be working. - Did one…

Hi Ladies -- So many new names -- that's exciting! After a (far too long) hiatus, I've just finished week one of Operation: Back to the Gym. It is oh-so-HUMBLING to go back to the empty bar. :) Anyone else having issues with the 5x5 iPhone app? Navigating and changing things is super annoying now -- I miss the old version.…

UPDATE: Weight loss: -2.3 (loss since 05/30) - This was a bit of a surprise, given my lack of time at the gym and/or hiking, paired with my last couple of weeks of eating over my calorie range. But I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. I'll take it! Sub-Goals: - Just about everything has gone out the window now…

You can also look into liquid chalk. It's not as messy, so gyms rarely mind if you use that kind. Also more discreet.

Sorry to hear about your back. But better to know what's going on than continue and really injure yourself. As for the neuro -- your doctor must feel like there are options, otherwise he/she wouldn't have recommended it, right? You have very little to lose. Why not just go and see what they have to say?

Thank you for the great and helpful suggestions, @Krok and @Indiana

Here's my latest and greatest update. :) Lots of changes coming for me in the next few months. Now that school is over, I'm in a weird transition / holding pattern. I will apply for PhD programs late this year -- most applications are due in December -- but I won't find out where I'm going (knock on wood) until February or…

@b218w -- Are you using chalk? Are you doing double overhand, or mixed grip?
-
I'm imagining the he-man and the chicken syncing their noises / head nods perfectly. I want this to happen.
-
@Andyllll -- Chill the F**ck Out! :D It can takes weeks for that water retention brought on by lifting again to go away. If your measurements aren't changing, who cares what the scale says?
-
Having a particularly difficult time motivating to lift lately. I'm only getting to the gym 2x / week the last few weeks, and while I'm disappointed in myself, I'm also trying not to beat myself up too badly. I have been doing lots of hikes and walks with Huck (90-120 minutes each), so it's not like I'm doing nothing. But…

UPDATE: Weight loss: -0.3 (weighed on 06/05, loss since 05/30) - Hoping this was less than it should have been due to some water retention. We'll see what happens this Friday. Sub-Goals: - Mediation -- Nope. Was doing well there for a while, but have fallen off. - Morning Pages -- Same as above. - Lift 3x / week -- I'm…

Today was 5x5 / Workout A Warm up supersets: - Good Mornings - 3x10 @ 45 - Squats - 2x5 @ 45 Squats -- 5x5 @ 90 lbs. - Felt heavier than I would have liked, but not terrible. Bench -- 5x5 @ 67.5 lbs. - Again, heavier than I expected. Glad I didn't go up to 70 lbs. today. Rows - 5x5 @ 67.5 lbs. - Easy peasy. Accessories:…

Personally, I don't think ONE imperfect rep is a failure. We all have off reps sometimes. For me, if a handful of reps or a full set feels off, then I consider doing that weight again the following workout. I do not deload unless I've actually failed a lift three times (i.e., couldn't complete the full set).

Operation stop effing around is underway! I do love the motivation a new month brings. :) 5x5 / Workout B Squats -- 5x5 @ 85 lbs. - Felt good, but my arms still bother me some. I've definitely noticed my ROM is more limited again. It'll just take time, I know... Good mornings -- 2x5 @ 45 lbs, 2x10 @ 45 - Did the 2x5 sets…

Guisa, I know that personally, I need a more specific goal than this when I've hit a rut in my losses. "Lose weight" is just too broad. I mean, you could cut off your arm and technically reach this goal, but I don't think that's what you want. :) Maybe think about the things that you're struggling with right now. Are you…

Sometimes when I'm nervous about starting something, I tell myself I can quit at any time. Tell yourself you'll at least try out squats, and if you're not feeling it, you can go home. Or Bench Press, or whatever exercise you want. More often than not, once I'm there and started, it all falls into place and I do the full…

I'm more of an extrovert than an introvert, and I still have a hard time meeting people. Most of my very close friends are from high school and college. The rest were through industry networking or classmates from this latest round of school. I'd suggest you find an activity you like and see if there are clubs or meet-ups…

I'm carrying my goals over from May: OVERALL GOAL: Lose at least 6 lbs. SUB-GOALS / ROAD MAP: - Do a Headspace meditation daily. - Write Morning Pages. - Lift 3x / week. - Hike / walk with Huck at least 3x / week. - Prepare meals / eat at home. - Concentrate on getting 8+ glasses of water daily. - Avoid soda.
-
WEEK 4 CHECK-IN Weight loss: -1.6 since May 2. I'm disappointed about this. Need to get my act together. :( - Soda -- Having a Coke today (hangover cure) but otherwise, haven't had any soda this week. - Water -- Still better than before, but haven't gotten to eight per day yet. Need to refocus here. - Lifting / Walks /…

*I* think it's impressive. Rows are hard! Also see no issue with the grip if you're not struggling with the weight. xo
-
@Canadian -- Oh geez. WHY would she override the veto? Does she agree with his plan or is it just to appease him? And if I were the PM, I'd be PI$$ED! I posted this on a status a little bit ago, but figured I'd share here too: I think I've found a trainer! It's a woman that I worked with a few times at my old gym when my…

Wow! Look at those numbers! Y'all are kicking some serious *kitten*. I'm impressed -- and yes, a little envious! And HIIIII @Psych and @Colts -- glad to see you! So, today was my first day back (again) after lifting a grand total of five times since February (wince!). Yes, one of those times was last week, but…

I've been remiss in my buddy duties. I'll get back on track with this, I promise. xo

I'm doing a significant deload at the moment because life got in the way, but before I was buried under, I got to the point where I wasn't comfortable adding weight to the bar every time I did squats, even if I completed the 5x5 successfully. I would stay at a weight for a week, then add 5 lbs. on Mondays, do that for the…

@Sumi -- This was just the consultation, so I haven't paid for anything yet thankfully. But it also means I don't think he's the right person for me, so I have to keep looking. There aren't many lifting focused gyms in my area, so I had high hopes this would be a good fit. SIGH.

Ouch! :( I'd start wearing knee socks or long pants on deadlift days.
