Woohoo! Glad to have you with me KatiCoufal and arenae42!

Anyone? Surely there must be others on here who've learned to ride without training wheels!

Ooohhh these look delicious! Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks, Sara!!

I've been eating at maintenance to try and take advantage of newbie gains as best I can. I'm with you, I like to see things changing and the idea of going 5 months with no visual confirmation even though I'm increasing strength doesn't sound very appealing. I get why others do it and realize I may be cheating myself a bit,…

Nope, definitely not scrapping my routine! I totally understand that changes are gradual I just thought the winter bulk, spring cut idea wasn't very helpful since it's spring. My BF% is still too high to show much definition, and although being skinny fat is not what I'm ultimately after it can be achieved faster and would…

It's spring, so I need to make the best of it. I don't want to wait until November to get into a good lifting routine.

Yes, I'm trying a recomp approach. I've been consistently increasing weights each week and my weight has stayed the same so I took that as a sign I'm on track. I didn't expect crazy measurement differences but was shocked, not even 1/2 a stinking inch anywhere?! Has anyone tried alternating mini bulk and cut cycles before?…

I totally agree. And right now I'm in a heavy lifting phase.

I second this. You need more fat in your diet. That doesn't mean french fries and cookies, but you need to include healthy fats like olive oil, peanut butter, etc. Fiber is only one element of a good poop... you need to grease the track as well.

My conclusion after reading the replies is that there are really two different groups of people on here, which is fine. I can see the benefits to sticking with the compound lifts, and why people choose to do so. But it's not for me. Like you, I think there's benefit to incorporating accessory/isolation lifts and making a…

I have been lifting for longer, started SS two weeks ago.

I'm not sure I want to follow the program. My goals are not to continually increase my deadlift weight and become very strong. I recognize that the book is written for people who want that. I bought it because I knew it would be great for teaching form and getting me started. I've done that. Now I'm wondering if there is a…

I apologize, I think I'm using the wrong terminology and that may be confusing people. At this point I agree I don't need assistance lifts. I'm doing fine with the compounds so I won't waste my time/energy on the. However, I do think I might benefit from some isolation exercises in addition to the 5 compounds. In…

Yep. When you get down to a low body fat percentage and you start to worry about making certain muscles "pop" or are finalizing your definition, then worry about assistance lifts. Right now, you should be focusing your energy entirely on the compounds. [/quote] What do you consider a low enough bf%? Personally, I don't…

Yeah I put together what I think is a reasonable split routine like you mentioned. I used the word assistance b/c that's what the author refers to them as in SS. I too think they're important, and am wondering if I'm doing myself a disservice by not incorporating more lifts into my routine besides the 5 compounds he…

I think you're misunderstanding. I don't mean a spotter assisting during a lift, but lifts other than the 5 compounds in SS (e.g. dips, bicep curls, pullups).

http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/quick-and-easy-turkey-burgers-10000000223449/ I use this recipe for a basic burger and add a slice of reduced fat provolone. I also increase the teriyaki sauce to give it more flavor. I love this site... search "turkey burgers" and you will find a ton of good ideas.

I love peanut butter anything so I'll definitely give these a try!

Congratulations on doing so well and making it a lifestyle change! I'm actually in my last week of a biggest loser challenge through my gym and as of last week I was in 3rd. I too have been doing it the right way, though admittedly for this last week I will probably reduce my calories and may even fast the day before my…
