A young friend of mine is on "Alesse". She dropped 15 pounds fairly quickly when she started taking it. The nurse at the youth clinic said that 1/3 of people gain weight on it, 1/3 lose and 1/3 stay the same. I think it is just about how it happens to interact with your body. And yeah, dudes, this is a real thing. Although…

I think the negativity is just a reaction to the reality that often on MFP, posts such as OP's show up and are followed by a sales pitch for some lame weight-loss product. This post had all the warning signs: no pics, new member, extreme weight loss. However, seems it is legit so we can all chill out.

I think one of the benefits of the high rep, relatively low weight OLY lifts is to use it as a conditioning workout, not necessarily pure strength or pure cardio. As others have said, IMO I will continue to be coachable and do the workouts as close to the prescribed way as I possibly can. That is what I pay for. Although I…

Tell me more about this food delivery service?

Hey! I agree with what has been written here. Contrary to popular belief you do not need to add that many calories for pregnancy. I think only about 100-200 extra calories with your hunger as a guide. Many people go nuts on the food in pregnancy thinking they have license to scarf everything in sight. It is all about…

"A wall ball is just a thruster"!!!!!!!!! This may have just changed my life. Thank you.

Thanks. This is helpful.

I second the costco idea. In Canada we have a store called Winners that I think is similar to Ross or TJ MAXX that is sometimes a life saver.

Crossfit604, Vancouver BC. I cannot say enough great things about this box. The nicest, most encouraging people.

Dude. DUDE. You look amazing. It's funny how the family comments are the ones that kill us.

"My advice, if you want it: chuck the plan, chuck the coach, chuck whatever else is connected to that diet, and start all over. Start with MFP by setting up your profile, find out an estimate of the calories to eat to lose weight, and then log, log, log and eat within your calorie goal. I bet you'll feel better. " Love…

Excuse my ignorance but what are DOM's?

I think she must have a mental illness, which manifests itself in a bizarre anti-crossfit way. I wonder who else would join that group? People who like CF are all here, and other people may decide it is not for them but not join a group devoted to it's hatred.

I suspect if you go to a good box in your area and FEEL the difference you will see what a good value it is. I too can't even imagine trying to do this on my own. The personal attention, inclusion and encouragement are priceless.

Marshmallow here. I did onramp by myself, with just the coach. I did my first class last night, and I could not believe how friendly and supportive everyone was. They all introduced themselves and shook my hand before class started. It was so great:) My box has a "no *kitten*" clause right in the contract. It was explained…

This is reassuring. I thought it was just me. The first time I had a major nervous giggling fit and then had to jump holding the trainers hand. It was mortifying.

Congratulations! I love your attitude and your courage. Your post also reinforces the notion that the BMI is BS. You are nowhere near obese anymore.

It was helpful for me to realize that whether a person has ten pounds to lose or 100, they have to do the same thing. Eat well and exercise. Then maintain, by continuing to eat well and exercise. If you think about it that way I find it easier to get a grip on. Also, one day at a time. I forgive myself for bad or…

I go to bed. Sometimes I realize I am more tired than hungry.

If I saw a woman wearing something I liked I would ask her where she bought it. I actually still do this. I had no idea where to buy clothes, and it is still a mystery in many ways. Also keep in mind that it is time consuming and that you will have to try on many items. You may make mistakes and buy stuff that isn't quite…

To the person who asked why we "let ourselves go": Agreed, not sure why this was here. I used to weigh 255. I had a husband, I was raising two little (now bigger) kids, a great job, lots of friends and family who loved and accepted me. I felt great about all of these aspects of my life. People often assume the overweight…

There are a few things I find helpful when I feel fat and unmotivated. Which can happen to anyone. I imagine everyone on here has had moments of doubt and felt unmotivated. First, I try to focus on what I can do TODAY. I don't think about the forty pounds I want to lose, or the workouts in the coming weeks. I try to…

Thanks to all who answered this question. So helpful and informative.

You look great! Was it your plan to lose one pound per week? Thanks for sharing, so motivating.

A friend who is a dietician explained to me that the whole "8 glasses a day" thing is indeed a myth. Some agency was making a "food pyramid" type poster and along the bottom depicted eight glasses, just to signify that lots of fluid is good. This has been interpreted as an eight glass a day "rule". But everyone's body is…

I wondered where you lived that it is too cold to walk in early October, and see that you are in Ontario. I lived there for 20 years, and my sister is there now. Put on a coat. Not to be mean, but it's not that cold.

I have been doing Bikram (hot) yoga for two and a half years now. During that time I lost 80 pounds. Was it the calorie burn that did it? I am sure that was part of it. But the yoga contributed so much more to my weight loss journey. It taught me that it is okay to be uncomfortable emotionally and physically: that…

Absolutely you can be successful this way! It will allow you to go at a pace and in a manner that is comfortable for you! If you cannot stick with it long term then it is not going to work. Exercise allows me to live my life in such a way that I can not be in "diet mode" but in "moderation" mode. If I do Bikram yoga, go…

Some would say that if you have a sugar addiction, having a cheat meal is like telling a recovering alcoholic that it is okay every now and then to go on a bender. There is a woman named Kathleen DesMaisons who has done a lot of research on sugar and it's addictive properties in certain people. Changed my life. Her website…
