  • Ha! - I typed in "geocache" on a whim to see if there was a geocachers group here on MFP. To my surprise, it came back with this group. I've been on MFP for about a year and geocaching for about a year and a half. My geocache name is "iowameadows" and we have found just 38 caches but LOVE it! Thanks for starting this…
  • Great Job - way to go!
  • I'd like to echo what thriftycpl said. I have had my fitbit for about 3 weeks and I love it. I do NOT eat back all the calories burned, but I DO make sure I eat at least 1200 calories every day. I bought the fitbit to see how active (or inactive) I really was and as an incentive to increase my exercise. To that end, it has…
  • Amazing - and VERY inspirational! Thanks for posting.
  • Congratulations! I think it's a major accomplishment. I am about 8 pounds away from that milestone myself, and I am sooooo looking forward to it!
  • Everybody makes mistakes. As someone else said, "tomorrow is another day", so get back on and resolve to do better then. It takes 3500 calories to equal one pound, so you probably didn't eat THAT many cookies and ice cream. One thing that I do that works for me (everybody is different) is to count the cost FIRST. I try to…
  • I have been doing this since October 1st and it's working for me. I am a Christian father of 5, grandfather of 10, great grandfather of 1 and husband (also of 1 for 42 years). There are several Christian groups of this site. I have joined two myself. -Howard
  • I have heard that changing the "img" to uppercase "IMG" works. I'll try it here and we'll see...
  • WOW! What an incredible difference! This is definitely an inspiration to me. My initial goal was 1.5 lbs per week for a year (78 lbs total). So far so good. I'm at 104 days and have lost 32 pounds. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm going to think of you while I'm "on the way" to my goal.
  • Great job - congratulations! That reminds me of my annual physical exam back in early October. My doctor asked what he could do to get me to lose weight, and my response was, "I have an app for that". ;-) He laughed loudly, and then I shared MFP with him (which I had just discovered from a friend). He was skeptical saying,…
  • Great job Keith! I need to borrow some of that exercise drive from you. :-)
  • Good to see you here Keith! I started 10 weeks ago on MFP and it has helped me a lot. For me, the key is consistency. Come here every day and log everything. -Howard I'll also echo the person who quoted Philippians 4:13 :-)
  • Thanks for posting. You are a great inspiration!
  • I like the low sugar version of Quaker's Maple & Brown Sugar oatmeal and have that more than half the time. When I have dry cereal, I like any of the Chex brands or spoon size shredded wheat or cheerios.
  • First entry for December today (12/5/2011) 2.8 miles <-- not sure how many "k" this is. :-)
  • OK, I need an exercise push for December. Sign me up. -Howard
  • I am 65 and have been doing MFP for about 8 weeks. I have lost 23 pounds so far. MFP helps me keep track of the numbers and I am encouraged by the math. If you burn more calories than you consume, you WILL lose weight. Use the tools found on MFP and keep track every day. Your goal looks like about 2 pounds per week. That…
  • Jaime, The really great news (to me) is that by joining MFP, you are no longer on a "diet". MFP is a great way to take hold of your eating habits and turn them into healthy ones. It is pure math. Follow the program, and you WILL lose weight. Best wishes... -Howard
  • One other idea that has worked for my wife (and occasionally for me) is to tell yourself you CAN have what you're craving, but have it later. For instance, you can have it, but AFTER you do a certain activity, or after 30 minutes, or something else that you like to do that delays the act. Often what happens is you become…
  • Great job! I also started October 1, 2011. I had (much) more to lose than you but I agree that seeing the progress is encouraging. The way I see it, it's pure math. Keep yourself under your goal calories and exercise, and it WILL happen.
  • My philosophy is if you want to have something, you CAN. You just have to count the cost and decide if it's worth it. For instance, is it worth it to consume the 430 calories ONE slice of Pizza Hut stuffed crust pepperoni lovers? Is it worth the 705 calories to eat one slice of french silk pie from Perkins Restaurant? I…
  • I am relatively new and only have 6 friends. Two of them are my daughters. All seem to log in fairly regularly if not daily. I have logged in for 35 consecutive days since joining. I thought that was good, but then saw one of my friends had done 440 consecutive days!
  • Hi Sarah! I have been on MFP for about 3 weeks now and I love it. You say you don't want to think of it as being on a "diet" and I think that too. That is one thing I like about MFP - it's not a diet because I can have anything I want. The thing is that it helps me count the cost of what I do have. If I want that turtle…

  • I don't know what zumba is, but I've done the dog walking thing. Most of my exercise is on the treadmill. I try to do 45 minutes 4 times a week at 3.5 miles per hour. Also, note to MrsWagz: I like your signature line(s). :-)
  • I agree with the "not a diet" concept! The very definition of a diet is restrictive. I like the idea that this is not restrictive. I can truly have anything I want as long as I am willing to pay the price and MFP lets me know the price before I make the choice. It's like going to a store and seeing something you really…
  • I try to always look up calories of a food BEFORE I eat it. That way, I know the "cost" of eating it going in. One of the great things about MFP is that I feel I can have anything at any time, but I have to weigh the cost and evaluate if that is worth it. For example, the other night I had a piece of chocolate cake. It was…
  • Let me encourage you. I have only been doing MFP for 6 days and need to lose about the same as you over a period of one year. I've found it amounts to making good choices (like many other things in life). MFP is a great help in making those choices. Maybe we can help encourage each other for the next 51 weeks. :-)
