If you're an 18 year old guy and 5'11", 1700-1900 is definitely undereating. If you're bingeing, your body needs more food.

about 45 lbs I think, but I had to eat a lot for well over the amount of time it took to gain that weight to start to feel better at all. I started feeling a bit normal and happier again after a year of being weight restored and being super strict on eating every meal. I stopped gaining weight when I got to where my body…

if it's working for you then stick with it! I am 26 and 5'9", not overweight (but don't know my weight) and I eat 2200-2600 usually. But more if I am hungry.

carb threshold bollocks, I don't think that is helpful for someone in recovery. I hope you will not pay attention to the above post, OP.
-
This is very common in recovery & the best thing you can do is to make absolutely sure you never ever restrict and eat all your normal meals and don't be too hard on yourself. For me, it passed as soon as I stopped trying to restrict (even a little bit) and decided I would accept whatever weight I ended up at. I haven't…

Find other things to think about and don't let yourself care what you weigh or how you look.
-
I'm 5'9" and don't work out in the gym but do usually 6+ hours of dance per week and I eat around 2200-2600 per day without gaining weight. 1300 is way too low!

Ballet. Seriously.

Sure. Educate yourself and get professional help. You can be healthy whatever your weight is. First having and then having to recover from an eating disorder were the most horrendous, traumatic experiences of my life. Is the OP (or her friend) likely to take my advice? Doubt it.
-
Yes, it's generally good advice. But you have to not overthink and make the decision for yourself ultimately.
-
Don't worry, I have.
-
I have to say, as someone who suffered from an eating disorder for around 10 years, I find this thread offensive and upsetting. An eating disorder is not a diet. The whole thread should be removed.

it might seem quick to start with, whilst a lot of it is water, but it will probably end up going slower than you think. Higher calories = more & quicker repair to your body, including speeding up your metabolism.
-
If your intake has been at this level for a couple of weeks already then there is no need to worry about refeeding syndrome. It is completely normal to need 5000 or more calories a day in recovery (this is due to hypermetabolism) and yes, in the first few weeks you will retain a LOT of water as your body stores it to start…

have you spoken to your dr/dietician? It might be that your body fat % and/or weight are too low and you are doing too much exercise. You might not be eating enough fats. But best to talk to an ED dietician about it!
-
no, not necessarily. "Why are thin people not fat": http://inhumanexperiment.blogspot.co.uk/2010/07/why-are-thin-people-not-fat.html "Does dieting make you fat?" (Twin study): http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v36/n3/full/ijo2011160a.html There is also a very interesting study giving evidence for the pretty much complete…

I'm sorry you're struggling, but I would imagine that 140lbs is significantly under your set point and so by making yourself maintain there you will continue to have ed thoughts and to binge, because your body thinks it is still starving. The most important part of recovery to me is giving up controlling your weight and…
-
I'm not knocking filling food at all, but if you eat everything on your meal plan and are still hungry, all that means is that you need more food!
-
ffs WHY are you people all recommending things for being low-calorie and high volume? That is NOT what a recovering anorexic needs! Someone recovering from anorexia in inpatient treatment would very often have to eat 3000-4000 calories per day, Jess is severely underweight and needs as many calories as she can get.

Adding more fat should really help to keep you full? Cook your salmon or vegetables in oil. Actually, salmon sauteed in coconut oil is possibly the most delicious thing EVER ;)

Uno - second one in is so cute :)

your current profile pic - pretty and arty!

if I want a sweet apple then braeburn or pink lady. But sometimes I like to eat cooking apples, is that weird? Mmm a nice sour bramley is lovely!
-
how about coconut milk yogurt also, since you can't have lactose or soy?
-
if you want sweet things then how about having honey/peanut butter & banana on your pita breads? I bet that would be amazing & easy to get to your calorie goal with? pita bread + banana + tbsp pb + tbsp honey sounds like an amazing snack to me!
-
Also, it's my understanding that going on the pill to get your period back will not protect bone mass, or not to anywhere near the extent of having a natural period.
-
anyone who stops having periods should go to the doctor and get checked out. It's a pain having them, but you don't want to lose bone mass and have a higher chance of developing osteopenia or osteoporosis.
-
don't know if you can be... I've had an ed for a long time and though I'm not underweight at the moment I am a way below *my* healthy weight (and don't get my period) and I am really struggling because I am ALWAYS hungry.

I read that site all the time, and I think she's probably 100% right. I just wish I had the courage to follow the recovery guidlines. I just don't dare. But I think she's absolutely genuine and the explanations of eds and recovery make much more sense to me than any others I've come across.
