  • Ice for 20 minutes at a time whenever you can and 3-4 ibuprofen. I also tried Arnica gel for a muscle problem and it seemed to help speed the healing. I found it at Walgreen's and WalMart. Also something like Biofreeze that will give the icing effect when you obviously can't ice it will help.
  • "The MFP way is to take a deficit from your normal daily activity, NOT counting exercise - which you are expected to log AND eat back (but nobody ever does because they "don't think it makes sense")." After using MFP for over 3 years and losing up to 110 pounds, gaining some, then back down to 75 pounds off, I think I…
  • I am choosing to eat gluten free. Eating gluten free is relatively new to me and this is what I've found over the past 8 months: Ezekiel 4:9 bread is my friend. I only eat that and only one slice toasted in the morning. I would suggest to eat one whole scrambled egg and 2-3 eggwhites with that. I have been overweight most…
  • Do anything in the water! Water provides great resistance and is very forgiving on injured body parts. I did this last summer when I got shin splints (oh so painful!). Just keep your heart rate up while you are in the water! Good luck and it will heal!
  • My work week is similar to your school week as I am a teacher and spend a lot of time at school and in meetings. I've lost 98 pounds in the last year and here is what I've found works for me. 1. Be prepared. Do your shopping on the weekend. Buy plenty of fruit (I buy apples, oranges, and bananas for the week), vegetables…
  • I am also the new owner of a hrm and I have the same question. In my 60 minute cardio sculpt class my hrm says I burned 730 calories. Now I know I was hot, sweaty and out of breath during class, but could that really be true? My hrm is a watch with a chest strap, of which I wore both. Anyone out there have any helpful…
  • If you love to dance you'll love Zumba! I sure do!

  • Man, not me! Let them shrink they always get in the way!
  • Yes almost always. It's amazing how much some things weigh, like apples? Boy some of those Honeycrisp apples were almost a pound so they counted for 3 normal honeycrisp apples. I do measure out cheese, dressing by cup and tablespoons. I think it's more accurate.
  • Ditto to PB anonymous! I eat a slice of light whole wheat bread toasted every morning with 1 tablespoon of reduced fat peanut butter and later on in the morning a half peanut butter sandwich with same amounts of PB. It keeps my stomach from having that empty feeling and I work it into my calories every day. :drinker: (I'm…
  • Ditto to all of the above! Now I have an interesting one: I'm in my nightgown ready for bed and I'm sitting on what I think is wad of fabric from the nightgown. Upon further investigation, I realize it's the large bone at the lower end of my spine. That strange wad on my butt is bone I'd never felt before! LMAO!
  • Hi Becky! I'm Charlene and I joined in June 2010. I too was around your weight and am now down 83 pounds in 13 months. The big difference with MFP is that you are accountable to you and if you know you have to enter it, you may not eat it. Also make a commitment to exercise. I suggest 4 times a week for 40 minutes to…
  • If the bites are infected u shud probably go see your doctor and get that taken care of. If you are feeling that run down u shud probably take off today, your body is trying to tell you something. I know from experience, just try to eat healthy and drink lots of water, reschedule the personal trainer for another day. Let…
  • I am doing cardio 6 times a week, weights 3 times a week on alternate days. On the days I don't do weights I do 60 minutes ellipitcal for higher calorie burn. On weight days I do 45 minutes of ellipitical before weights and it all seems to be working very well. I had a session with a personal trainer and guidance from my…
  • Welcome! I just joined in June and love MFP!! You can add me as a friend and I'll support you. My support group has meant the world to me and I would be glad to help you out!
  • Mollie, you are so inspirational! I love the quote from Oprah particularly. It really speaks to me right now! Keep up the awesome work you are doing. You must have MFP pulled up all day long for as much as you post and respond!
  • Okay I'm now going public.... August 1, 2010 : 235 :blushing: August 31, 2010 goal 230!
  • I want to do this too! How do I keep in touch with this group after this? This is new to me so someone needs to tell me how to do that!:flowerforyou:
  • Fantastic Mollie! We are all making progress, one pound at a time even when we have imperfect days. Thanks for the great quote! :flowerforyou:

  • Very good point! Thanks for the proof that the angle makes all the difference!
  • I think it's a good idea to have variety in your exercise, especially the type of exercise you do. Mix it up so you don't get bored. Adding an extra session of exercise isn't going to hurt you!

  • I am also 49 and am lucky enough not to have had a stroke so far. I've lost 76 pounds and you can do this program too. What do you mean by inactivity? Are you able to do any type of exercise? I can do some brainstorming with you if you'd like. How much weight do you want to lose? You can add me as a friend if you would…
  • Who cares if you're not in shape or coordinated enough? Do what you can for as long as you can! It's moving and that burns calories! Just Dance is lots of fun and really gets your heart rate up! :flowerforyou:
  • My doctor (a former collegiate runner) told me to replace my shoes every 450 miles. It sounds like you may need new shoes. Congrats on the great progress! I am also wanting to do the C25K program to start running. :flowerforyou:
  • Have you checked the area where you live for any Zumba classes? We have an awesome Zumba instructor here in Newton, Kansas that teaches a class at our local recreation center. She also teaches classes in Wichita. A group of us attend her class every week becaise we love the socializing, her, and the great workout !…
  • Eat salad with protein. No bread, potatoes, corn, carrots, or any other starchy items. Check to see if your restaurant is on the database. If not, do comparisons with similar restaurants. Good luck-you'll feel better soon!
  • I notice that everyday and it's kind of fun to think about! I have only been on for 10 days so we'll see what happens. I'd be happy with my 2 pounds a week. It is motivating to see the possibilities by looking at that tho!
  • I had my blood pressure meds reduced after losing almost 55 lbs. Looking forward to see what else I can reduce or get completely off of! I still have about 70 more lbs I want to lose. Exercise played a big part in losing the weight and getting my numbers in the right place. The possibilities are endless! YOU are worth it!…
  • :flowerforyou: I am ready to take your challenge! I love the accountability and the competitiveness! My name is Charlene and I've lost 60 pounds and needed something different to keep me going when my friend introduced me to MFP yesterday. I want to lose 70 more pounds and be able to run, jump, and shop for cute clothes! I…
