Welcome back! I got back on track recently too.
-
My MS specialist recommended all his patients take 3000-5000IU/day. They also check my D levels once or twice a year. They've never mentioned adding the K2 though; I just heard about that recently but am not sure where to start (good brands, how much, etc.).

Great question. I've adjusted my goal before. I'm 5'7" and I used to tend to yoyo between 139 and 159. At one point a few years ago I decided to try to aim for 130 (a weight I hadn't seen since college; though not quite as ambitious for my height as for yours!). I got there and liked it and set a new maintenance weight…

I agree with taking your doctor's advice into account when figuring out your goal weight, but I'm aware they often just go by BMI charts and don't all always take body type into consideration. The "normal" weight range for 5'8" per the BMI chart goes up to 163 so 150 may not be necessary. My husband and I are only 2 cm…

I started taking it to help with foot cramps I was getting pretty frequently. They do seem to help!

Yes, I can relate! It can be a fine line and I don't always know. I think usually if I force myself to exercise, after 10 minutes or so I can tell if it's going to make me feel better or worse, and if the latter I cut it short.

I know it's been a while since anyone's posted here. Just checking in. If either of you are still around I'd love to hear how you've been doing lately!
-
I read the book and try to follow some of the principles, probably closer to Wahls Diet than the stricter levels. I eat more keto/LCHF and seem to do pretty well on that.
-
@dcavaleri good to hear from you! I had my first attack in 2001 and am similar in that I can still run but have to avoid running in high temps.

Looking for threads on spironolactone since my dermatologist put me on it about 5-6 weeks ago. My skin was relatively clear as a teenager but I've had acne since about age 40 (I'm 43 now). Also I've had the chin/neck hair growth since my late teens. So far it seems to be helping my acne (I think? Not a dramatic difference…

Me! I'm already in month two of a 6-month Transformer DietBet and struggling this time around, so I could use extra support/accountability/motivation.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'd seen your posts earlier but didn't know all you'd been through before. So glad you survived!

Yep. I've regained a few times. Right now I'm back up to 17 lbs above my recent goal weight. (12 lbs below my peak non-pregnant weight.) I am tired of yoyoing so I may need to just log forever. Usually weight creep starts when life circumstances change, e.g. I went from SAHM to WOHM, had a harder time fitting in workouts…

PT for me.

Interesting. I got a "website is experiencing technical difficulties" message so I'm not able to read the article. For me sugar is a lot more likely to lead to binge-eating and strong cravings but I wonder if that's related to being insulin-resistant.

Interesting discussion! My parents are/were both diabetic and my sister is now Type 1. I found out I had prediabetes a while back and that's when I first started eating low carb. I was able to reverse it and my numbers have looked good since then.

I'm doing this as well. I haven't settled for sure yet on what guidelines I want to follow, but I am trying to include 6-9 cups/day of fresh vegetables and fruits per the Wahls Protocol for MS (1/3 green leafy veg, 1/3 brightly colored and 1/3 sulfur-rich). Still avoiding grains in general and reducing processed foods. I'm…

That's great!

That looks really good; thanks!! (I am also a lazy cook.)

I don't like the taste of milk but I'll put it in my coffee if I'm out of cream.

I agree that numbers for weight loss are individual; experiment to see what works for you but 14 lbs in 2 weeks is plenty fast!! When I did keto for weight loss, I had about 20 lbs to lose and I went with 30-40 gm net carbs per day and lost 24 lbs in about 4 months. I was very happy with that.

Yep, it's 9 cups. She developed this for people with autoimmune issues, especially MS, so that's where some of the specific recommendations come from. https://terrywahls.com/about-the-wahls-protocol/
-
I didn't realize others on here were interested in Wahls, too; cool. Thanks for starting a thread. :) And yes, she does recommend working up to the 9 cups if needed. (I've read the book.) And she has three different levels: Wahls Diet, Wahls Paleo, Wahls Paleo Plus. For me right now I'm leaning toward Wahls Diet range (the…

Whew, I can see why! That's tough.
-
That happens to my husband, too! (He has CAD as well as high-ish blood pressure.) He's tried a bunch of BP meds and had troublesome side effects with all of them.
-
That's great! I'm happy for you. Thanks for sharing.

I'm experimenting with bumping up my carb allowance to allow for 6-9 cups/day of vegetables and some fruits from 3 categories (leafy greens; brightly colored; sulfur-rich/cruciferous) per the Wahls Diet for MS. I have been keto before but now looking for more like 60-90 gm carbs/day to allow for enough of the fruits and…

Way to go! That's fantastic!
-
I eat all veggies.

Part of my influence is Terry Wahls' research on MS. I want to get back to following her advice of 6 cups of fruits and vegetables a day (2 each of different categories) and some of her other guidelines, too. Her full protocol is a bit much for me at this point but I want to move more in that direction.
