  • Don't worry how you start the learnign to run program. Me and my wife started last year and we looked like beached whales trying to run. We couldn't go for more than a minute without stopping and walking. fast forward a year later and my wife has lost 60+ pounds, and I am down 30+ pounds. ( I was down more but have gained…
  • Lots of good advice here so far. Without knowing all the particulars in your case the advice I would offer is: 1) be careful of what the bank says you can "affrord". They use a standard percentage for your payment around debt control. Usually a 40% TDSR or a 32% GDSR. This is great, but not in real life. We (I have a wife…
  • Listen to your body...me and my wife staretd this last year and we took it slow and staedy and we are now are both competing in races on a regular basis. I just completed a 8k in 45 minutes...something I am really proud of. You will feel terrible some days and great on others, that is normal, but if you are throwing up…

  • Can I take code name Eurozone and I will wipe out the financial section???
  • I jus competed in my first timed 5K race last Saturday...what a feeling! last christmas I did our local reindeer run (also a 5K) and it took me 36 minutes to complete it, with some running and walking. I have been running anywhere from 5K to 11K three times a week since then, and my 5K time has always been around 28…
  • just finished th firefly series and then watched serenity....both were pretty darn good...too bad they cancelled the series
  • I am racing my first 5K tomorrow morning! My wife and I started running last fall and let me tell you, we looked horrible...we were doing 1 minute of running and like 5 minutes walking...worked on the ratio for a while in the fall and then purchased a treadmill for the winter, come spring we hit the outdoors and I can now…
  • Feel free to add me...I am looking for motivation as well. I am down almost 45 pounds and would like to lose 10-15 more.
  • It may be you need to change your exercise routine. I am in the same boat, I am just moving around my weight point right now. I gain a couple pounds and then lose them, or lose a couple and then gain them back. I also have been doing a lot of travel lately so that hasn't helped. I am doing a lot of cardio, and have decided…
  • A weekend may not be the best time to start anything new, so Monday makes sense to me. I use the phone app a lot, it is great for scanning bar codes. Feel free to add if you are looking fro help along the way. Good luck with your journey.
  • I am at a desk most of the day, along with an hour commute each way. I used to be pretty active in high school and University and then I had a job that kept me on my feet most of the day so I could maintain my weight. Once I switched to a desk the pounds started to go on. I now try and concetrate on things I can control.…
  • Both my wife and I started this last fall. We were horrible at it to begin with and were struggling with it, but we kept at it, we even bought a treadmill so we could keep running through the winter. I was around 230 when I started and my wife was 196. I now weigh in at 195 and my wife is close to 145. She completed a 10K…
  • I have a New Balance one that I have no problems with. But in observing other threads, it seems like Polar is the most popular.
  • I puchased a New Balance watch and heart strap. I think I got it for around $58.00 (Costco). It works great and easy to use. I would not buy one without a heart strap. I am looking at upgrading now to a full GPS/HRM watch system (Probably a Garmin), but they will cost a little more ($200-$300).
  • 41 and I love this site. I had had some success with losing weight through 2011 by biking and doing some P90X in between rides. I went from 238 in January 2011 to around 215 during the Summer, then winter came and Christmas and new Years and I found myslef back up to 226. My lovely wife had just started the 25K couch…
  • Similiar post under SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR....but the advise is the same, don't stress over the sugar amounts if everything else is working.
  • I have noticed the same about Sugar...usuaully have eaten my daily amount before I get out of the house. I eat a lot of fruit for snacks and they are high in Sugar. I have lost just over 40 lbs, have dropped my Blood pressure from 140/90 to 120/70 and lowered my resting heart rate from 90+ to between 65-70. I run three to…
  • I am looking at a 10K this weekend in Moncton, NB and cost is $20.00. (5K is the same price). Not sure if T-shirt is included as no mention of T-shirt on registration site.
  • Non-Scale Victory...and not a dumb question....it took me a while to figure that out myself.
  • I had a goatee for the longest time, lost it about 6 months ago when I had dropped the first 20 lbs.
  • No Gym membership here. My wife and I have a treadmill at home that we use, we walk twice a week outside during the winter and will increase that as weather gets warmer. I also use the P90X DVD series. I have lost 40 lbs over the last 15 months and my wife has lost has lost over 50 lbs. My wife does take advantage of…
  • My wife and I are doing the P90X DVD set...very good workouts with explanation of moves and also give you a variation if you can't do the regular move.
  • I used to take two Zantec (150mg) a day. One in the morning and one at night. I have lost roughly 40 pounds (from 238 to 199) in just over a year and have cut out a lot of pop that I used to drink. Along with the better eating and elimination of pop, I have not taken a pill in almost two months. Even spicier foods don't…
  • I use a New balance chest strap and watch combination and find it fantastic. I can keep track of my P90X workouts and know for sure what I am burning calorie wise and I also found out that my treadmill was overestimating by around 10% combared to my HRM. It was out anywhere from 50-70 calories a workout. I would definitely…
  • I would vote Yes....I found that I was way over on portion size. Recommend one that can zero out the container as well. That way you just add your plate and then can add individual items very easy.
  • You have to eat them back. I am targeting a pound a week in weight loss and at 207 lbs I need to net 1830 calories a day. If I exercise and burn 500 calories then I need to eat 2350 to maintain the 1830 net a day. You already have a factor built in to get to the weight loss goal. You will notice that if you go over your…
