  • I try to vary my cardio routine. My latest improvement in terms of cardio is adding the stair master (insert groan here) to my routine. I'll walk for 10, get on the stair master, hit the elliptical and generally change things up. One day do 10 minutes on one, 15 on the other, 30 or the third.
  • First, you shouldn't be training/targeting the same muscles every day. Every other works well. Not allowing the muscle to heal fully will increase your chances of an injury. The following works for me, but as with everything, your mileage may vary. Second, walking about 20 mins after weight lifting will work the lactic…
  • I love the money jar idea! I may have to extend it to holiday sweet leftovers and savory snacks-my weakness. My healthy eating has stalled and I am having a hard time with the winter weather. January is a bad month for me, in general. Now that I think about it, my NSV is even having holiday cookies around in…
  • Yes...well as much as I can remember if it is something I call a true binge. I was doing really well with the Christmas cookies, until today. I don't know what the true caloric damage is, but I guessed and made a note. At least I was at the gym today so I don't feel as bad, but...eh. It happens.
  • Things to consider: a pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat because it is more dense. It is more expensive (calorie wise) to maintain muscle than fat. Therefore, build your muscles first. Cardio after the weight lifting will help move along all the lactic acid so you won't be as sore when you're done. (I…
  • I'm addicted to the scale. I step on it *way* too many times. That said, I've learned not to log my weight on here every day because the up and downs make me crazy! Tell yourself you will only log once a week-that has helped to keep me sane. I measure body parts and although I have only lost 4-5 pounds from 6-8 weeks ago…
  • Because I love me.
  • Teehee! Fun Size! I love it. Kinda like Jessica Rabbit, I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way. I'll join you in the holy sisterhood of thinking too much ;) Anyway, back to topic. I'm the same height as you are. I don't think it is unrealistic to believe you will lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks strictly from calorie reduction as…
  • I had the same thing happen to me! It felt doubly good bc I've been friends with him forever and he has told me in the past that he wasn't into me because I was too heavy. My son wanted to cuddle with me today. My gym workout was great. And in general it was a lovely day today :)
  • I think it's more about how much you love yourself, although this is probably more semantics than anything else. I don't mean love in a narcissistic way. If your losing weight for yourself, taking care of your body because you want it to be healthier (or hurt less or whatever), dressing the way you want, wearing your hair…
  • He sounds like an ethical kind of guy. I hope things go well with the chat. Please do provide an update.
  • I have chronic tendonitis or tendenosis b/c of the way my heel bone is shaped, so I deal with this too often. Under ironic: NSAIDS (anti inflam meds like advil) make you swell more, which at least for me, makes it worse. I've been taking Bromelain, a pineapple enzyme, limiting my salt intake, and taking time to put my feet…
  • Not familiar w/hydroxizine. As a mold allergy sufferer also, there is a bunch of stuff that I cut out of my diet and it's helped tremendously. This wasn't easy though, so I had a food diary. Usually it takes about 3 days from a food that amps up one's allergic rxn to leave the body. Things to avoid/use sparingly for mold…
  • I'm not entirely sure on this, but don't we all have the same "size" muscle when we are born, (girls and guys a little different but lets keep it simple). And then depending on how tall or short we are (since they are attached to bones), the muscle can look smaller on one person than another regardless of actual physical…
  • Fans aren't the problem if dust daily or weekly at least. If you're allergic to dust, then they are a problem. Other than vacuuming every day, washing the sheets in hot, religiously may have some help. Not wearing shoes in the house helps too, so you don't track the stuff through the place. Changing carpet to hardwood-all…
  • That's so very, very hard. I'm proud of you for not following their path though. If you have that conversation with them again (or at least your dad) maybe you could ask him to plan his funeral now and break down in tears in front of him. I know it sounds cold and callous and a little manipulative to boot (I'm wearing…
  • How about making your own candied/caramelized nuts? Walnuts and almonds have a lot of nutritional value. You don't have to use all the sugar that is suggested in recipes. I find crunching helps with the general catharsis of emotional eating...
  • Not sure about vegan butter (I'm allergic to soy), would subbing coconut oil work or does the recipe call for beating the butter w/something?
  • Invest in a good blender. The Ninja is half the cost of Vitamix or Blendtec (but more of a pain to clean in my opinion). I use 2 cups of raspberries or blueberries (depending on what is on hand or a mix) with 3 oz of baby spinach, greek yogurt and a cup of coconut water. My picky pete's balk at the color, but even they…
  • Another fan of Polar products. Mine has a chest strap vs an armband/strap.
  • I'm a fan of the Polar brand HRM, any one with a chest strap. My gym also offers tests that can calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and tell you how many calories you burn at what heart rate/zone based on the amount of oxygen you burn while breathing. I always wondered why I wasn't losing weight when I would start…
  • I'm not sure that a bunch of people on a board like MFP are any better than using Dr. Google... We could be completely wrong and all that other stuff. ;) Now, with that said.... Did you know that your quad has 4 different muscles in the grouping? It's possible that one of those groups is not strong enough. To me it sounds…
  • We started looking at this site: http://thisiswhyyourefat.tumblr.com/ and decided to not bake cookies...after a few pages of "OMG, this is nasty" the cookies didn't seem like such a good idea. Food porn at it's worst.
  • Definitely agree with taking measurements. I'm sure the poster who wrote the above really means muscle is denser than fat and therefore takes up less volume. People noticed on me at about 10-15% lost for the first time. I started to physically feel better 20 pounds in. Current loss so far is a tick over 60.
  • Thank you, OP for putting this up here. Now it's time for me to head to the gym and do my swimming. This was just the boost I needed :D
  • I like to work out w/o people now that I'm getting somewhere in my fitness. It's not rude to say no. Hurt feelings are a different matter and depends on how much you like your neighbor ;) I also don't mind someone who needs me to go with them where they set the pace and I push them to go just a tiny bit harder/further.…
  • ...And done. (The beauty of a day off.)
  • In. I'm having a bad go of Monday.
  • ETA: I didn't see the last post until I made mine. She explained it so much better.
