Actually these aren't silly at all. I've been doing weighted lateral lunges for three weeks and they have strengthened my legs (and core) in different ways. Lunging with a twist helps stretch your hip-flexor & hamstring (if you lunge deep), improving your form with other compound moves (squats, deadlifts, Bulgarian split…

Females are done growing taller by your age. Males can continue to grow taller until about age 25 Are you exercising or keeping active?

Vibram Bikila for both.

I've seen people lose weight by cutting their servings in half. I've seen people lose weight by giving their diet a complete overhaul and eliminating treats/junkfood altogether. Have you tried any ONE approach for a sustained period of time? Give one of the above options a try for at *least* a solid month or two. If…

My overpronation is virtually eliminated since I switched to Vibram (toe) shoes. "Comfy" running shoes were interfering with my foot's ability to self-stabilize. Definitely wait til after the race to make the switch. I made the mistake of doing my regular daily 5k in full (rather than the recommended 10% of run) with my…

Ooh. Great thread! My default salad base is: greens (romaine, spinach, mixed greens, etc.) bean (chickpea, black, red, white, etc.) meat (occasionally, and whatever is on hand/leftover: baked chicken, salmon, meatballs, meatloaf, etc.) pico de gallo* sweet corn avocado* *I'll like to mash the avocado with the pico de gallo…

Invest in a foam roller! Use it to roll out your muscles (sore or not) after your workouts. Since you are already hurting, it will be painful to roll it out BUT you will feel better immediately after you finish your rolling session. Roll out your muscles after each workout to prevent future pain. Your body will adjust and…

Thanks for stepping out on an emotional limb to share your thoughts. I agree: the self-respect doesn't always coincide with reaching our ideal weight. Fortunately we don't even need to change a pound to start seeing ourselves in a more positive light.

Build muscle! Muscle burns more calories than fat, and the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn, even at rest. There are some great workout suggestions in the strength training groups here on MFP.

THIS!! Thank you for taking the time to post a summary!

I wear vibrams (which I also use for running). I like 'em. My brother prefers to lift in chucks, vans, and worn out basketball shoes. Anything with a flat sole interferes less with form. :)

haha! I remember thinking this exactly! Okay, maybe not the exact same imagery, but close to it! The only thing that has helped me to figure things out was doing lots of body weight squats in front of a mirror and then incorporating weights once I "got it". I've heard taking video of yourself squatting is a really good way…

oops! Here's the original YouTube video I was trying to post: http://youtu.be/cRMiUtscrHw

With weights of course!

I get bored too! These are variations I like to throw in: Lateral lunges Walking lunges Weighted step-ups (I drag the step up box to the weights section) Jump squats Single leg deadlift Bulgarian split squats (rear foot elevated) Split squats Good luck!

Those machines really aren't good for anything except embarrassing people. Lateral lunges will do for you what that contraption pretends to do.

Whoa! You look fabulous! Congrats! To what do you attribute your success?

And while you're still figuring things out here's a fun "mom workout" to get you started (deadlift your kids etc. ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71Xtsgw_T3U

Bump! Ps: The New Rules Of Lifting for Women seems to be a good starting point. :)
-
It was either in "New Rules of Lifting" or "New Rules of Lifting for Women" where I read that men typically grab a weight that's 25% too heavy & women tend to do quite the opposite and under estimate their strength by that much. It sounds silly but I would recommend "deadlifting" things in your house to get an idea of…

From "The New Rules Of Lifting": "With adequate fuel you get more out of your workouts--you can exercise harder and/or longer and that means you burn more calories during the workout...a harder workout produces a bigger afterburn..." So yes: eat more (healthy) food & move more. :)

Congratulations on your 100# achievement! Such dedication! And I agree with others, you look like you literally turned back the hands of time!

Amazing! You are truly an inspiration! Thank you for taking the time to post & share photos.

Genius! Thanks for the tip!
