  • I'm the same way! I can't tell you how many books I've started and abandoned 20 pages in. Burke's Rain Gods was that way for me; I still haven't gone back to it :p I also have a background in editing, and if a book is poorly written and edited, I move on to the next one. To me, this is one author who can border on purple…
  • In for Jeff. <3
  • Doesn't Blue Bunny make some sugar free options? I keep sugar free popsicle jr fudge pops in the freezer, super chocolatey, and 45 cals a piece. Edy's makes double churned low fat ice cream that's excellent. So many options in the frozen dairy case now.
  • Welcome, folks! Join in!
  • I can't wait to see what our next one will be!
  • I'm barely halfway through too! With this author I often find myself rereading entire pages at a time, just to get the full effect of the prose. I just think he writes beautifully.
  • Welcome! We're currently reading Light of the World by James Lee Burke. I think we'll make a new selection on the 10th?
  • If it were me, I would go by how I felt post surgery. Try a few days of 1390, and if you feel strong/well, I'd say keep on. However, if you're feeling run down, tired, etc, I'd probably up it a bit. I don't know how fasting would fit in. On the one hand, some say the body heals faster and more efficiently if not dealing…
  • I'm morbidly obese, have been for 15 years, and I've been to the doctor twice, once for strep and once for a UTI. I'm not costing you a penny. And come to think of it, I was living in Canada at the time. My skinny husband has been to the doctor far more than I have, and we've always paid out of pocket. So neither one of us…
  • Well said. It comes down to trust. My spouse and I have been together for 16 years, and who we hang out with is never ever an issue. Not from the start. We wanted to be with each other, and so we are. I couldn't handle that kind of controlling in a relationship, not as either the controllee or the controller. :)
  • I'm not even halfway through yet. I"ll try to pick up my pace! Loving the book though. The time change is killing me :P
  • I don't know if I believe there is such a thing as will-power. I think it comes down to desire. Which do you want more - the food itself, or the benefits you reap from not eating said food? It's difficult because the food instantly gratifies your desire for it. The results of restricting that food delay gratification, and…
  • I fall asleep reading EVERY NIGHT! No joking. It's no reflection on what I'm reading, only that I'm one tired farm girl! ;)
  • Organized workouts go against my religion ;) I do what's fun. I live on a mountain ridge, so I'm unfamiliar with the term "flat." Walking to my mailbox (1/8 mi) get's my heartrate into the anaerobic zone. I bike 4 miles average of 3 times a week (daily when the weather's nice) takes about 35 minutes. I walk 5k (3 mi)…
  • Well said. I give this thread till noon. Then it will be locked ;)
  • I think I started chapter 6 last night. I'm kind of a slow reader! I am loving it so far. Burke's descriptions of people and places put everything right there for me. I think I can lend a book to one person, I'm happy to do that if someone needs it! (Provided I can figure out how ;) )
  • Hi there, I took your original post to be one of curiosity; I don't base my weight loss on anyone else, however, aren't we here to share? To see how others succeed? Fail? Can't we learn from one another? I have had the same question as you. I eat between 1400 and 1800 cals 5 days a week (occasionally I throw in a 2000 cal…
  • Exactly right. That's how I ended up with the aussie, it was the only saddle in a shop full of 2000 dollar saddles that actually fit his high wither and La-Z-Boy back :P The downside of it is that it weighs about 26lbs; I get a workout just hefting it up there! LOL I miss those days! I never ride without a helmet, even…
  • Foods like ice cream and pizza and stuff are awesome. However, I can consume more than I should, and they actually burn off quicker for me, so I need to eat again in a couple of hours, and if that's the coaster I'm on, I'm likely going to choose something equally fatty and tasty and not a piece of fruit - And here we are…
  • Wow, that is scary! The three times I've done "involuntary dismounts" on the trail, Sully was as surprised as me, too surprised apparently to make a break for it! That's always been a bigger worry to me than my own injuries, is him running off and getting hurt or lost. Love the name Tank! lol All that work that you've put…
  • This is partially true: however, if you consistently weigh yourself at night, you should still get consistent results. I've tested the theory, and I weigh pretty close to the same in the evenings, but it is a few pounds more than in the morning. So, if you weighed in the morning, you would see that you are actually lighter…
  • I've gained as much as 11lbs overnight, but usually its 5-7 for me. It shows up exactly 3 days before, and is gone usually by the second day of my cycle. So don't sweat it- or do, if you want! ;)
  • My eyes went from blue to green in my late 20s. Nothing to do with diet, though. I'm pretty sure I was doing the Cheetoh diet at that point...
  • Not necessarily so. I mean, you can, if you want, but part of IF is learning to listen to your appetite. The point is to eat when you are hungry, and stop when you are full. Most don't count while following a fasting plan. I do, but like I said, I'm striving for a goal, so I'm keeping a close eye on things ;) Fasting also…
  • IF is a way to gain control of your eating, to retrain your appetite and to hit the reset button if you have insulin sensitivity issues. It is also a way to break food addictions. It has done all these things for me in the span of a few weeks, not to mention shedding pounds and inches immediately. I do the two longer fasts…
  • Sounds great! I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of the book :)
  • I love that discover commercial where the hubs brings home a puppy and is carrying it down the stairs saying, "hold it, hold it..." makes me LOL every time! My name is Ange, I'm 37 (38 next week) and live in the Blue Ridge mountains of VA with my husband of 12 years, and a menagerie of animals, including a beloved horse…
  • Yes, Naomi, they do stand alone, but the Robicheaux series has been around a long time. He gives some personal history of the character in each book. Though I do recommend all of them! ;) I've read them all out of order. Actually the last one I read was one of the first written, Black Cherry Blues; Awesome book!
  • Hi! My gelding has done this a couple of times, as well, except with him it was when tightening a cinch. And by tightening, I mean, tightening just enough so the saddle didn't slide off on the way outside! The first time he did it, he was ground tied, but stepped on the lead in his effort to "throw back" and snapped our…
