  • I know all too well the desire to stay at home and hide from the world. I have struggled for the past 2 years without being able to stop my weight from going up. I have committed to do it this time. I set some small goals for January -- I am hoping some wins will help me not get discouraged. 1. Log every bite, all day long…
  • Either way....I'd rather carry a deflated grocery bag around with me than one full of blubber. [/quote] Great attitude. I have only lost a few inches and I can start to see where there will be sagging skin, but I have decided that saggy skin is a badge of honor for the work I have done.
  • Such an inspiration. Way to go
  • I too love roasted veggies. I have them with brown rice for lunch. I use just a touch of olive oil and twice as much balsamic vinegar. Gives a great flavor to the veggies and cuts down on the fat. i also add sea salt and a few red pepper flakes.
  • Thanks for the do-over. I needed it. I had to get kids ready for summer camp and missed 2 workouts.
  • my grocery budget and family size is close to the same. What I have found is that we cannot have many processed convenience foods. I stick to fresh fruit and veggies, meats on sales, eggs and butter. Cheese is also pretty expensive so we get it sparingly. A few other things that I do to help -- We do not buy bottled water.…
  • Rocks are a great idea. I have been putting $1 in the jar for every pound I lose. When I get to my goal I figure it will be the start of a nice wardrobe.
  • Thanks for telling your story. I have been working and trying to lose weight for several months and am not really dropping pounds despite working out and eating better. I almost stopped because I was thinking how losing weight is so hard... Then I realized that being over-weight is really hard. Being more than 100 pounds…
  • I just joined the group, but realized that I have met this week's challenge. I did 1.5 hour of swimming and treading water on Tuesday and Wednesday and then an hour of jazzercise on Thursday and Friday. Total of 300 minutes of exercise so far this week.
  • I have been working with a nutritionist. She recommends that I consume 2/3 of my daily calories by the time I get home from work. Idea is to not be starving when you get home from work and to have a smaller dinner. Seems in-line with the breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper theory. I struggle…
  • My dad said.. Good because your *kitten* is getting kinda big. Made me laugh at the time.
  • I am living proof that vegetarians are not healtier and more fit. Even without meat I have "carbed" my self into obesity. I choose to not eat meat because I don't like it much and on top of obesity who needs to worry about cholesterol the like. Even though I don't eat meat, I still cook it for my family. She needs to mind…
  • Thanks for mentioning that it was a 2 year journey. I weigh every week and sometimes get so discouraged when I lose .2 or .6 pounds. But I have to keep reminding myself that this is a long journey.
  • I don't eat meat either, and I hate cooked apples, but I bet my kids would be in love with this recipe. I am going to make it for them. I did make a wonderful little vegan cassoulet the other day -- not crockpot, but lots of veggies sauteed in a bit of olive oil, tomato paste, bay leave and cannelini beans. Oven for 45…
  • I try to eat mostly vegan. But my boyfriend and kids are meat eaters. I have 3 basic strategies 1. I always make a couple vegan options to have in the fridge. This allows me to cook a meaty dinner for them and have something to heat up for myself for myself. These are usually soups or roasted veggies with rice and beans...…
  • I love a garbanzo bean and garlic soup. There are a few variations if you search the internet. I generally roast some garlic, blend it with some garbanzo beans and vegetable stock. I leave about half of the beans chunky and blend 1/2 to smooth. It is very warm, satisfying and yummy.
  • I was using weight watchers but was always annoyed that you were not allowed to actually know how many calories to eat -- you just get points. I am really enjoying that MFP has all of the nutritional breakdowns and a huge database of foods, plus I love the bar code scanner on my droid phone. Feel free to add me... I would…
